I am not a Yandere chapter 79

* * *

His pale face turned bright red, and he awkwardly cleared his throat, fumbling with the kiosk to change the subject.

“Alright then, two tickets for ‘Blood Mansion.’ Shall we get some popcorn or soda?”

“Popcorn?”

“Right, of course not.”

Considering it was a horror movie, he thought eating might not be the best idea.

But as he was about to move on, Yeongdeok went back and started browsing the popcorn options.

He hadn’t had a chance to try it before because of his aversion to eating with his hands when he was with Eungyeol.

“What, are you really getting some?”

“There are a lot of choices.”

From original to onion, caramel, cheese, and even mixed flavors, Yeongdeok examined the options carefully.

Seeing this, Seonwoo couldn’t help but let out a small laugh.

“Heh…”

“What’s so funny?”

“Oh, nothing.”

Seonwoo knew that if he mentioned how cute Yeongdeok looked while deep in thought, he’d get a frosty glare from him.

So, he kept that comment to himself and placed his hand on the kiosk screen.

“I recommend the caramel flavor. It’s sweet and tasty.”

“I see. I’ll go with the original.”

Seonwoo thought that Yeongdeok never listens to anyone else’s suggestions.

If he was going to choose the original anyway, why even bother saying, “I see”?

While he was clicking his tongue in annoyance, Yeongdeok took out his wallet to pay.

Seonwoo quickly slipped his card in, stopping him.

“What are you doing?”

“I promised I’d treat you to dinner that day, but I never got the chance. This is to make up for it.”

“Got it.”

Once the payment was completed, a receipt with an order number printed out.

Yeongdeok’s order number was 271.

He sat down on a nearby chair to wait for his order, while Seonwoo leaned against the wall next to him, standing with a slouch.

As time dragged on, feeling like each second lasted an hour, Seonwoo’s mind drifted back to a memory he’d rather forget.

Trying to suppress his embarrassment, he apologized to Yeongdeok.

“About that day… I’m sorry. I said I wouldn’t get that drunk.”

“As I said in the chat, it’s not like I didn’t know you were a reckless person, so it’s not surprising.”

“Somehow, it still feels strange to hear you say that, like you really had no expectations of me.”

“That’s right. Why should I have any expectations of you?”

Yeongdeok genuinely couldn’t understand what kind of expectations he should have for him.

Seonwoo bit his lower lip, then forced a smile and sarcastically retorted.

“Of course. That’s exactly the kind of person you are, Cha Yeongdeok.”

“I don’t understand what you mean by that, and it’s irritating.”

Despite the wishes of the Beautiful Life club members who hoped the two would become closer, Seonwoo and Yeongdeok had already clashed twice in the mere 15 minutes they’d spent together.

Amidst their tension, the screen displayed the number 271, prompting Yeongdeok to stand up and head to the counter.

He picked up the large tub of popcorn handed to him by the staff, grabbing a piece and tasting it.

The savory, slightly salty flavor was quite appealing.

“How is it?”

“It’s not bad.”

With their popcorn in hand, Seonwoo and Yeongdeok headed upstairs to Theater 5, where “Blood Mansion” was playing.

As they entered the dimly lit theater, the screen was still showing advertisements.

“Seats G10 and G11.”

“I already know.”

Even without Seonwoo’s guidance, Yeongdeok confidently found his seat and sat down.

As he looked up at the brightly illuminated screen, its light was reflected clearly in his dark irises.

“You really have been to a theater before.”

Yeongdeok had indeed been to a movie theater once before, back when he was still on good terms with Eungyeol.

They’d watched a third-rate comedy, though the movie’s content wasn’t memorable.

It wasn’t that Yeongdeok had a bad memory; he just couldn’t take his eyes off Eungyeol’s joyful expression as they laughed.

Without a word, Yeongdeok leaned back in his seat, chewing on his original-flavored popcorn while watching the remaining ads.

Suddenly, Seonwoo’s hand reached into the popcorn tub.

“What are you doing?”

“I paid for this, remember? I just want to try a bite.”

Seonwoo took a generous handful of popcorn despite Yeongdeok’s disapproving stare, and then gave a lighthearted review.

“Pretty good.”

As Seonwoo’s shameless behavior continued, Yeongdeok’s eyes narrowed slightly.

The ads came to an end, followed by a brief video outlining theater etiquette and emergency exit locations.

“Is it starting…?”

Seonwoo, who was relatively calm while stealing popcorn, now tensed up as the room darkened in anticipation of the movie.

His body stiffened with the rising tension, his hands gripping the armrests.

The theater brightened slightly again as the production company’s logo appeared on screen, signaling the beginning of the film.

Beyond the large screen was an old, decrepit mansion, its age indeterminate.

The heavily corroded structure seemed like it should have already collapsed.

Crows circled the mansion, adding to the eerie atmosphere.

In front of that mansion stood a man in a beret, Martin, the film’s protagonist and a rookie journalist.

He was there to investigate the mansion rumored to harbor all sorts of bizarre occurrences.

Martin’s gaze shifted to the mansion’s entrance as he failed to uncover any solid clues.

Despite his family and colleagues warning him never to enter, his curiosity as a journalist got the better of him, and he placed his hand on the doorknob.

As he pushed open the creaky, cobweb-covered door, it let out a sound that was almost like a person moaning.

Seonwoo instinctively raised his hand, covering half the screen.

He wished that Martin would just turn back and leave, sparing everyone a tragic end.

But his silent plea was lost on Martin, who continued forward.

Martin switched on his flashlight and cautiously stepped inside.

Seonwoo clenched his hands tightly, nervous sweat forming on his palms.

Meanwhile, Yeongdeok chewed his popcorn with a calm demeanor, his first experience watching a horror film.

The plot was predictable, almost cliché.

As he mentally criticized the unoriginal storyline, a shadow suddenly filled the screen.

“Ahhh!”

Seonwoo’s scream echoed through the theater, causing Yeongdeok to turn his head with a smug grin.

He had tried so hard to act unafraid, but now his facade was shattered.

Seeing Seonwoo’s reaction, Yeongdeok couldn’t help but smirk in satisfaction.

Seonwoo, pretending it wasn’t his scream, awkwardly shifted his eyes.

-Was I seeing things? I’m sure there was a shadow…

Martin’s flashlight moved in every direction as he nervously searched the room, but the shadow that had startled Seonwoo was nowhere to be seen.

With a sigh of relief, Martin continued deeper into the mansion.

He reached a staircase lined with unlit candlesticks.

Martin climbed the stairs cautiously, his flashlight illuminating the way, and took photos in hopes of finding a scoop.

Suddenly, he heard a noise from above—it sounded like footsteps.

-Is anyone there?

Martin moved towards the source of the noise.

When he reached the top, there was nothing in the beam of his flashlight.

-Of course, who would be here in this old abandoned mansion?

Just as he turned around in relief, a blood-covered monster lunged forward, filling the screen.

Its terrifying scream reverberated through the theater.

“Kyahhh!”

A woman’s scream in the movie theater triggered a chain reaction, spreading terror as if fear itself was contagious.
