While he was typing in the chat, his dead character respawned.
Yeongdeok swung his hammer forward and slowly advanced without pressing “Shift” this time.
Even though it was just a game, the scenery on the screen felt as realistic as a photograph.
While Yeongdeok leisurely explored the map, another message popped up in the chat window.
[ChurchIsEnglish: Yeongdeok, are you taking a walk alone? Damn, get to the point!]
[Where’s the point?]
[RainbowIsStrong: OMG, if you don’t even know the point, just quit the game.]
Ignoring the chat, Yeongdeok tried to find the point on his own. Suddenly, he heard footsteps behind him.
Yeongdeok slowly moved his mouse to turn the character’s view, but by then, he had already been hit by something the enemy had fired.
“Why isn’t this moving….”
Whatever the enemy had done, the directional keys suddenly stopped working.
An enemy character approached Yeongdeok, waved as if greeting him, and then fired a gun.
Yeongdeok’s HP quickly dropped.
[Unknown: LOLLLLLL]
Yeongdeok frantically clicked the left mouse button to try to hit the enemy character, but no matter how much he swung, the hammer wouldn’t reach them.
Meanwhile, the enemy’s skill cooldown had reset, and they fired the same skill at Yeongdeok again. This time, too, the directional keys didn’t work.
[Unknown: Oh no, grandpa’s hammer can’t reach, huh? So annoying, huh? But you can’t do anything, huh?]
The moment the enemy shot him in the head, “YeongdeokChicken has died” appeared on Yeongdeok’s monitor.
[CentralCPlusGuy: What’s Yeongdeok doing? Stop dying in weird places and come to the point to fight!]
[ChurchIsEnglish: Our Yeongdeok is a concept troll, so he doesn’t know about that.]
Yeongdeok gripped his mouse so tightly he almost broke it. His character respawned again.
‘This time, I’ll really find the point and do it right…’
As soon as Yeongdeok stepped out of the base, he heard a tranquilizer dart sound, and his directional keys were paralyzed again.
Sure enough, Unknown approached and waved at him.
[Unknown: Grandpa! How can you sleep in a place like this? You’ll get a stroke like this!]
[You. I won’t let you off.]
Once the paralysis wore off and he could move his character again, Yeongdeok swung his hammer straight at Unknown to try to catch him, but the hammer still didn’t reach.
Then he remembered that “Shift” makes you dash forward.
Yeongdeok pressed “Shift.” His character shot forward and flew off a ledge again.
[YeongdeokChicken has died.]
[Unknown: I won’t let you off, yeah right, LOL! Our Yeongdeok is so cute, huh?]
[YoungAndRich: YeongdeokChicken, what the hell are you doing? I’ll come to your house and smash your monitor.]
[ChurchIsEnglish: Why’s our YoungAndRich suddenly losing it? It’s not even a competitive match, but he’s getting so worked up.]
[YoungAndRich: Get lost and die.]
[ChurchIsEnglish: Okay, I’m reporting you~]
Yeongdeok was now bewildered.
The world of games is scary.
The chat window scrolled by quickly.
While he was reading the chat, his dead character respawned again, and Yeongdeok cautiously looked around from the safety of the base to check if Unknown was nearby.
There was no sign of Unknown. Relieved, Yeongdeok slowly left the base.
At that moment, his directional keys were paralyzed again. A vein throbbed on Yeongdeok’s temple.
[Unknown: Don’t you have any learning ability? Are you just brainless?]
Yeongdeok tried to kill that insolent Unknown by frantically clicking the left mouse button, but instead of killing him, he ended up getting killed again.
Soon, the word “Defeat” appeared on his monitor.
[ChurchIsEnglish: Yeongdeok, let’s never team up again~]
[YoungAndRich: Damn, YeongdeokChicken, you’re getting reported.]
[Unknown: Thanks for the fun, Yeongdeok, hehe]
Yeongdeok quietly watched the rapidly scrolling chat window, then quickly stood up and left his house.
He went next door and knocked on the door.
“Seo Jihoon. Seo Jihoon. Come out.”
Yeongdeok knocked on Jihoon’s door and rang the doorbell, making a racket, but Jihoon, who would normally have come out by now, didn’t respond at all.
“Seo Jihoon. This is really important.”
As Yeongdeok kept banging on the door, Jihoon, who had planned to stay inside no matter what, couldn’t stand the endless noise and finally opened the door. Jihoon’s face was red with anger, and his hands were trembling.
“What is it this time? What do you want now?”
“Come here for a second.”
Yeongdeok beckoned him with his hand. But having been dragged into troublesome situations by Yeongdeok several times before, Jihoon wasn’t going to follow him.
“Just say it here. Is there a cockroach in your house again?”
“I want you to teach me some advanced gaming skills.”
“Why should I do that? Give me a million won, and I’ll think about it.”
“Your account.”
“What?”
“Tell me your account number. I’ll transfer it right away.”
Yeongdeok tilted his chin, urging him to speak quickly.
‘Damn. I was just joking.’
Jihoon had learned from experience that Cha Yeongdeok was a lunatic who would persist until he got what he wanted. Jihoon’s brow twitched as he angrily stepped out of his house.
“Forget the money. What do you want to know?”
Jihoon asked, deciding it would be better to just explain and get it over with rather than being harassed by Yeongdeok.
“They said something strange to me from the first game. What does ‘ㅎㅇ’ mean?”
“Hi. It’s like saying ‘Hi’ in English. They’re just greeting you using initials.”
“I understand. Then what does ‘concept troll’ mean?”
“Players who set up ridiculous concepts to play games.”
“Then what’s ‘mukgeum’?”
“What, are talking about Mukgeum? Why do you not know so many things?”
“What’s Mukgeum…?”
“Shut up.”
Jihoon felt utterly exasperated having to explain such trivial things to Cha Yeongdeok of all people.
However, when Yeongdeok stared at him persistently, as if he was only waiting for Jihoon’s answer, he couldn’t help but reply.
“‘Mukgeum’ is short for ‘mugi geumji,’ which means ‘do not feed.’ It means don’t give any attention.”
“I see.”
“Alright, we’re done here? Can I go back now?”
Jihoon had already imagined chasing Yeongdeok out and collapsing onto his sofa, but Yeongdeok shook his head, clearly not ready to leave.
“No. Didn’t I tell you earlier? I wanted to learn about the luxury watches.”
“Shit…”
“Come here.”
“Why should I… Ugh…”
Mumbling without enthusiasm, Jihoon followed Yeongdeok into his place, thinking he might as well just finish this quickly.
As Yeongdeok sat in front of the monitor, Jihoon leaned over to look at the screen.
“Did you watch the tutorial?”
“Of course. Basics are important in everything.”
“You sure know how to talk the talk.”
“In the tutorial, the character I used had a gun. But the one I chose now only swings a hammer.”
“A hammer-wielding character? That’s either Reinhardt or Torbjorn.”
Jihoon grabbed the mouse over Yeongdeok’s hand and brought up the character selection screen.
Feeling Jihoon’s skin on the back of his hand, Yeongdeok flinched briefly but then focused back on the monitor.
The familiar character he had been using appeared on the screen.
“Reinhardt, huh.”
“This guy’s a tank. Swing the hammer up close, charge and kill with Shift, and use right-click to shield your teammates with a barrier.”
“What’s a tank?”
“…Can’t you just not play the game?”
Jihoon sighed deeply in frustration but explained slowly to Yeongdeok.
“There are tanks, dealers, and healers. In order, they protect, kill, and heal. Just remember it like that.”
“I see.”
“Each character has different traits. Try them out one by one in practice mode. You’ll get a feel for them.”
While listening to Jihoon, Yeongdeok noticed the character Unknown had just used.
“I want to play with this character.”
“Ana? She’s a healer.”
