There was a moment of silence between them, and as Jihoon’s hands dropped in embarrassment, Yeongdeok took the opportunity to step fully into Jihoon’s apartment and look around.
“Hey, who told you to come in like that? I’m going to report you for trespassing!”
Jihoon’s place was surprisingly clean for a guy living alone. Though to Yeongdeok, the refrigerator and TV were all old and shabby.
Hearing some noise from the living room, Yeongdeok turned his head and saw a laptop on the table.
A video game was playing on the screen.
“What’s this?”
“What does it matter to you?”
Jihoon quickly closed his laptop, scowling, trying to prevent Yeongdeok from seeing more.
Though no one invited him to sit, Yeongdeok placed the sandwich on the table and naturally sat down on the sofa.
“What are you doing? Get off the sofa before it gets ruined.”
“Don’t treat me like a germ. Besides, if anything’s dirty here, it’s this sofa of yours.”
“Ugh, get out. I’m busy! You’re returning my favor of catching that cockroach by being a nuisance?”
“A nuisance? How vulgar. I brought you this sandwich as thanks.”
“If you’re really grateful, just leave.”
As they were in the middle of their argument, a phone rang in the small living room.
Yeongdeok checked his phone, but it wasn’t for him.
Jihoon, who was standing nearby, quickly answered his phone.
“Ah, uh… Mr. Gaecheon. I’m sorry. The video got corrupted, so… it’ll take a little more time to edit.”
Yeongdeok quietly watched Jihoon on the phone.
“Yes, I’ve sent the thumbnail via email, and I’ll have the video ready in two hours. I apologize.”
Bowing repeatedly to empty space, Jihoon soon sat on the sofa and opened his laptop again.
“I’m too busy to keep arguing with you. Get out of my sight now.”
“You curse at me, but you’re so polite to the person on the phone.”
Ignoring Yeongdeok, Jihoon focused intently on his laptop screen.
As Yeongdeok peeked over, he saw Jihoon adding subtitles to a video.
The game video paused and rewound several times as Jihoon worked.
As Yeongdeok watched, he became more interested in the game on the screen.
Just as it seemed Jihoon was fully immersed in his work, he grimaced and suddenly shouted at Yeongdeok.
“Hey, what are you doing sitting there like you own the place? Get out.”
“That game looks interesting. What is it?”
“Didn’t I just tell you to leave? Talking to you is like talking to a brick wall. Damn, it’s so frustrating I could die.”
Jihoon slapped his chest in frustration, but Yeongdeok paid him no mind and checked his phone.
It was about time for him to open the store.
“If you tell me the name of the game, I’ll leave.”
“It’s Gogeub Sigye (Luxury Watch). Is that enough for you now?” (Tl: Overwatch game in real life)
“Got it.”
True to his word, Yeongdeok left Jihoon’s apartment.
‘Gogeub Sigye, huh? I’ll have to try it out after I get back from work.’
After finishing up at the store and taking a nap back home, Yeongdeok immediately installed the game Jihoon had mentioned.
Since the installation would take some time, he browsed the Beautiful Life cafe and saw a post by the cafe owner, Rose, recommending a novel.
[Rose: Wow, “The Time Between You and Me” is such a great read! The emotional depth is incredible! The author’s writing is so… should I say beautiful? Or elegant? I can’t even put it into words; you should definitely read it!]
Yeongdeok left a comment on the post.
Yeongdeok Chicken: Thanks for the recommendation.
Despite it being morning, Rose quickly replied to Yeongdeok’s comment.
Rose: Thank you for commenting, Yeongdeok Chicken! I hope it suits your taste!
“How polite. If only Seo Jihoon could be half as courteous as this person.”
Seeing that the installation was only 10% complete, Yeongdeok decided to read the book Rose had recommended.
The story had depth, and the characters were vibrant and appealing.
Most of Rose’s recommendations appealed to Yeongdeok.
Not just because the stories were good and well-constructed, but also because the best part… her recommendations always had a 15+ version available.
-Ha, huh! I love cocks! Milk, give me milk! Master!
-Oh, ugh. Yes, shall I give you milk, my baby? Drink a lot and grow big.
Yeongdeok couldn’t forget the shocking adult scene from a novel he’d read before.
The dialogue was so tacky; after that, he’d been hesitant to read anything marked 19+.
But for someone like him, Rose’s recommendations were a delight.
While reading, he noticed the game installation was complete.
As the game started, the first thing that popped up was a prompt to set a nickname.
‘What should I go with..’
Yeongdeok eventually decided on “Yeongdeok Chicken.”
The tutorial began.
Movement keys were WASD, and the camera was controlled with the mouse.
Following the instructions, Yeongdeok shot at the robots one by one.
After finishing the tutorial, the home screen appeared.
The game had several modes: custom, AI, quick match, and competitive.
Yeongdeok carefully considered what to try and then selected “Quick Match.”
Despite the early hour, the game quickly found a match.
When the character selection screen appeared, Yeongdeok found himself once again deep in thought. There were just so many characters to choose from.
He examined each character’s model by clicking on them one by one.
“Hmm…”
An old man character wielding a massive hammer caught his eye; the character’s large build and broad shoulders made him look strong.
Yeongdeok chose the character labeled “Reinhardt.”
[ChurchIsEnglish: ㅎㅇ]
[RainbowIsStrong:ㅎㅇ]
Once he finished selecting his character, the main game screen appeared. At the same time, a series of consonants popped up in the corner chat window.
What does “ㅎㅇ” mean? Yeongdeok furrowed his brow, unable to understand.
[What does “ㅎㅇ” mean?] (TL: It means Hai or Hi in English)
When he asked that in the chat, responses filled with more consonants quickly followed.
[ChurchIsEnglish: LOL crazy who asks what is “ㅎㅇ”?]
[Speak in a way I can understand.]
[RainbowIsStrong: Don’t pay attention to that concept troll.]
[CentralCPlusGuy: Just ignore them. Aren’t there always a few like that?]
Concept troll? Ignore? Yeongdeok couldn’t figure out what these words meant.
He wanted to ask the people on the other side of the chat, but the game had already started. Watching his teammates move forward all at once, Yeongdeok moved his directional keys to follow them.
Oh, it moves. Yeongdeok, who had never played a game before, was intrigued by just the basic controls and pressed the WASD keys frantically.
Then he tried pressing the left mouse button, causing the character to swing its massive hammer.
If the left button is for attacking, what about the right mouse button?
He checked and found that the character raised a shield.
Yeongdeok, who had never played a game before, was fascinated by just the basic controls and tried pressing “Shift” this time.
Suddenly, his character shot forward and flew off a ledge, falling into the void below.
-Ugh!
[YeongdeokChicken has died.]
Shouldn’t there be some explanation that pressing “Shift” makes you dash forward?
He hadn’t done anything, yet he died.
Yeongdeok frowned.
At that moment, a message appeared in the chat window.
[CentralCPlusGuy: What’s our concept troll doing? Why’d you die alone?]
Even if he didn’t know much, it was clear that “concept troll” referred to him.
Yeongdeok typed on the keyboard to respond.
[What is a concept troll?]
