I am not a Yandere chapter 59

* * *

Dalsu burst into laughter, teasing Jihoon, who quickly shut him up with a scathing remark.

“Cha Yeongdeok, that’s not your ideal type at all.”

“And I like older women.”

“Yeah, right.”

Jihoon, puzzled by Yeongdeok’s totally opposite description, couldn’t help but wonder what was going on in his head.

“Oh? Yeongdeok likes older women too?”

Dalsu, thrilled to find something in common with Yeongdeok, expressed his excitement.

He made such a loud fuss that even though Yeongdeok was sitting two seats away, his ears rang from the noise.

Feeling annoyed, Yeongdeok rubbed his temples and gave Jihoon a pointed look.

“What about you? What’s your ideal type?”

“…What?”

Jihoon was caught off guard.

Of all people, Yeongdeok asking about his ideal type was unexpected.

After all, the Yeongdeok he knew wasn’t the kind of person to engage in such trivial questions.

Just as Jihoon expected, Yeongdeok had a different motive for asking.

He wanted to confirm something through Jihoon’s answer—whether the candidate, Jihoon, had started to like Lee Eungyeol or not.

“I’m… not really sure.”

“Typical.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

Jihoon, feeling slighted, began to heat up but quickly imagined his ideal type.

“Someone who works hard, is subtly kind… even though they’re quirky, they sometimes show a mature side.”

As Yeongdeok listened to Jihoon describe his ideal type, he immediately thought of Eungyeol, who matched the description perfectly.

‘In the end, it’s always Eungyeol,’ Yeongdeok thought, finding Jihoon’s simplicity amusing.

“That’s pretty specific. Do you have someone in mind?” the person across the table asked.

“No, it’s not like that,” Jihoon replied, waving his hand dismissively in a slightly sulky tone.

After the talk about ideal types, the conversation drifted to other topics—like recent movies and hobbies.

Yeongdeok mostly just listened, contributing little.

Then, someone seated diagonally to his right asked him what his hobby was.

“Luxury Watch,” Yeongdeok said confidently.

The one who seemed particularly delighted by this was Dalsu.

“Do you play that game, Yeongdeok hyung? Let’s add each other and play together sometime!”

“No thanks. I get the feeling you’d be terrible at it.”

As Yeongdeok spoke, memories of all the terrible players he’d encountered flashed through his mind: the ones who were simply bad, the ones who bailed at critical moments, those who sulked and quit mid-game, attention seekers, and the ones who did nothing but teabag the entire time.

In Yeongdeok’s estimation, Dalsu probably fit into the first or last category.

“Hey, but I’m at least Platinum tier!” Dalsu protested vehemently.

Jihoon shook his head. “Dude, he’s not just Platinum, he’s in the top 500 or something. He’s way up there.”

“What? Seriously?” Dalsu, enraptured, claimed that being good at games was every guy’s dream and said he admired Yeongdeok for it.

As the group talked about hobbies, time flew by, and it was time to wrap up.

Since Yeongdeok had to go open the store, they decided to part ways early.

“Hey, Dalsu, is it okay if I contact you later? You were so fun,” one of the meeting participants asked.

“Huh? Me?” Dalsu stammered, his face turning red as he nodded awkwardly.

Another participant asked Jihoon for his contact information.

When someone else saw this, they also demanded Jihoon share his number with them.

As Yeongdeok watched them exchanging numbers, someone handed their phone to him as well.

He turned to see Haemin standing there.

“Hyung, can I get your number too?”

“I told you to stop calling me ‘hyung,’ so why do you keep doing it?”

“Come on, I’m just calling you ‘hyung’ because you are my hyung. What, am I supposed to be like Hong Gildong?”

Though Yeongdeok wasn’t particularly fond of the way Haemin stuck to him, he took the phone and punched in his number.

‘Seriously, giving my number to someone as clingy as him…,’ he thought. ‘No way this is one of those obsessive relationships, right?’

“Alright! I saved it as ‘Yeongdeok hyung ♡.'”

Haemin showed the saved contact name with a heart next to Yeongdeok’s name, and Yeongdeok recoiled in disgust.

‘Absolutely not.’

His brow furrowed so deeply it looked painful.

But then Jihoon, who had approached from behind, grabbed Haemin’s phone and erased the heart from beside Yeongdeok’s name.

“What the hell? What are you doing?” Haemin protested.

“What do you think? You’re probably interested in one of the people you met today,” Jihoon shot back.

“What?” Haemin smiled as Jihoon hesitated.

“Earlier, you said your type was someone cute and petite….”

“And didn’t I also say I didn’t care about the little things if their face caught my eye?”

A strange tension brewed between Jihoon and Haemin.

Taking back his phone from Jihoon, Haemin said to Yeongdeok, “Hyung, I’ll get in touch with you later.”

Hearing this, Yeongdeok regretted giving him his number.

However, he was now determined to ruin the typical trope of an obsessive relationship by using Haemin to make friends.

He planned to upend the usual pattern of the “obsessive character who has no friends other than the main character.”

While Yeongdeok was stewing over his newfound determination to undermine the trope, Jihoon stood frozen, as if something heavy had dropped into his heart.

“Ah….”

Yeongdeok glanced at Jihoon, who let out a vacant sigh.

“What’s wrong with you?”

“I don’t know… something feels off….”

Jihoon tilted his head, feeling both stifled and uncomfortable.

Even when he tried to shake it off, the feeling didn’t go away.

He couldn’t understand why he felt this way and would have to spend some time pondering the confusing emotions swirling inside him.

One day, after a meeting had ended and some time had passed, Jihoon suddenly found himself summoned by Yeongdeok and seated in front of his dining table.

At first, Jihoon calmly stepped into Yeongdeok’s house, wondering what was going on.

However, when he saw the greasy smell in the air and the table loaded with all kinds of chicken dishes, he felt he had made a mistake.

“Uh, Cha Yeongdeok.”

“Yes?”

“I just had lunch….”

“You don’t have to eat it all. I’d just like you to try a bit of everything.”

“Why are you torturing me like this?”

Jihoon brushed his sweaty bangs back, feeling hot.

Whether it was the heat from the fried food or the idea of tasting everything in front of him, his vision started to blur.

“I just came from editing a video. I have to leave soon.”

“Are you still editing videos? I didn’t think you’d have the time for that.”

“It’s the end of the semester. I have time before work, so I can fit it in.”

“If you feel indebted to me, you can take your time repaying it.”

“I just have something that requires money in January… That’s why I’m doing this for now.”

Yeongdeok, sensing Jihoon might be strapped for cash, decided to extend a bit more generosity since he’d already lent him some money.

“If you need more, I can lend you some.”

“It’s not that big of a deal that I need to borrow money. It’s just…”

Jihoon started to say something but then trailed off, and Yeongdeok waited, but no response came for a while.

What finally escaped Jihoon’s pouting lips wasn’t an answer but an irritated voice.

“Why do you keep asking so many questions? Damn it. Let’s just eat.”

“I wasn’t prying. You’re the one who always gets angry out of nowhere.”

Yeongdeok couldn’t understand why Jihoon would always flare up.

It seemed like every time they were talking fine, he’d suddenly snap.

Jihoon, feeling stuffed from lunch, pulled a dish closer.

“Please, give me an evaluation too.”

Jihoon took the evaluation sheet Yeongdeok handed him.

It was divided into sections where he could rate various aspects like taste and aroma.

Jihoon felt that Yeongdeok was being unusually thorough.

“But why are we doing this? Is it for a new menu item?”

“That’s right.”

Just as Yeongdeok answered, a notification popped up on his previously black phone screen.

[Park Haemin: What are you up to, Yeongdeok hyung?]
[Park Haemin: I miss you~]

Yeongdeok checked the message but turned off the screen without replying.
