A couple for show chapter 13

* * *

“Yoochan!”

Kim Woosun called out from a private room at the far end of the place.

He must have been eagerly waiting for Gong Yoochan because he couldn’t hide his delight as he leaned out of the room.

Just meeting someone after so long lifted Gong Yoochan’s spirits, and he smiled brightly.

The room already had a table set with drinks, and the whiskey that had been pre-ordered just so happened to be the one Gong Yoochan usually enjoyed.

“How did you know I like this?”

“What don’t I know about you?”

Kim Woosun poured the drink for him, encouraging him to start.

Amber-colored whiskey swirled into the glass filled with round ice cubes.

After clinking their glasses with a “cheers,” they took a light sip of the strong drink. In the back of his mind, Gong Yoochan could hear Cha Joobin’s voice saying, ‘Don’t drink too much.’

Why should he listen to him when he didn’t even bother to say where he was going?

Instead of putting down his glass, a feeling of resentment welled up inside Gong Yoochan.

“Hey, hey, slow down. You’re going to get drunk too quickly.”

“You came to drink with me, didn’t you? Of course, I’m going to get drunk.”

“No matter how much I like you, man, your drinking habits are the worst. I really don’t feel like dealing with them.”

“Maybe you should use this chance to get rid of those feelings.”

Gong Yoochan grinned as he took another drink.

He was well aware of the numerous testimonies about his bad drinking habits.

Yet, no one ever explained exactly what those habits were.

Even Cha Joobin, who was always nagging him to fix his drinking habits, never described them in detail.

The common sentiment among everyone seemed to be that it was better not to know.

Because no one told him, he never felt the need to be cautious.

It so happened that he usually drank with people who could handle their liquor better than he could.

Thankfully, they always took the glass away at the right time, preventing any major disasters so far.

And despite everyone saying his drinking habits were bad, they kept drinking with him, so how bad could it be?

Gong Yoochan just smiled playfully as he put down his glass.

He had assumed Kim Woosun had no plans today, but it turned out he had styled his hair and even put on makeup.

“Did you have a schedule?”

“No.”

“Your face looks nice.”

“I dressed up to meet you. Hey, stop calling me pretty.”

“What? If someone’s pretty, you say they’re pretty.”

“Isn’t there someone better looking than me right next to you?”

Kim Woosun didn’t need to clarify; he was obviously talking about Cha Joobin.

Even if you set aside his feelings for Cha Joobin, the guy was objectively better looking than Kim Woosun.

“Even so…”

So what if he’s handsome?

His personality is terrible.

While he could admit Cha Joobin was good-looking, Gong Yoochan couldn’t vouch for his character.

He let his words trail off.

“Did you guys fight?”

“It wasn’t exactly a fight.”

“What happened? Did Cha Joobin let you go without a fuss when you said you were meeting me?”

“I didn’t tell him.”

“You guys fought.”

Kim Woosun chuckled as if he already knew the whole story.

Gong Yoochan often sought him out after arguing with Cha Joobin, so there was no need to explain.

Gong Yoochan knew it wasn’t the best move, but he didn’t have many options.

The entertainment world was a small place, and gossip spread fast.

Confiding in the wrong person could lead to unnecessary rumors, which was the last thing he wanted.

Kim Woosun was known as his “close friend,” making him the most trustworthy option.

He used to complain about being treated unfairly, but now, he didn’t seem to mind.

In fact, he once said he felt special because Gong Yoochan confided in him, something he didn’t do with others.

Still, Gong Yoochan felt a bit guilty about only reaching out to him after fighting with Cha Joobin.

Feeling slightly embarrassed, he rubbed his cheek and said, “I’m sorry for always coming to you like this.”

“Don’t worry about it. I’m happy to see you. Keep fighting, will you?”

“Why don’t you just perform a breakup ritual or something?”

“I’m already doing it. Didn’t you know?”

“Hey.”

Gong Yoochan let out a laugh and playfully punched Kim Woosun on the shoulder.

Kim Woosun yelped in mock pain, but the mischievous smile on his face remained.

It would be a relief if he could just admit they had broken up, but he couldn’t even say that, so his insides felt like they were burning.

And so, he kept drinking. His throat felt parched, and he gulped down the liquor like it was water.

As Gong Yoochan downed his drink, Kim Woosun watched with concern.

“What happened? Why did you fight? Hey, I can’t take you home if you get too drunk. Cha Joobin will lose it if he sees me.”

“…That brat.”

“Oh wow, you really are mad.”

“Of course! You wouldn’t believe how rude he was. Today, he just left without even telling me where he was going.”

“This is getting interesting. Keep going. What did you fight about?”

“It wasn’t really a fight… Ah, I don’t know.”

The alcohol was starting to hit, but fortunately, Gong Yoochan’s mind was still clear.

He knew exactly what he could and couldn’t say.

Kim Woosun watched as Gong Yoochan’s cheeks flushed a deep red.

When Gong Yoochan drank, not only did he become more affectionate, but he also became very touchy.

The annoying part was that he kept muttering Cha Joobin’s name.

It seemed like the right time to act.

Not wanting to hear Gong Yoochan repeat Cha Joobin’s name any longer, Kim Woosun subtly switched his drink with water.

Meanwhile, Gong Yoochan’s rant continued.

“Hey, Yoochan. Are you not going home?”

“Home… Ah, I need to find a new place…”

“Why? Are you moving out? Are you going to live apart from Cha Joobin?”

“He’s so rude… I swear, I might as well just live on my own. I have the money! I can afford it!”

Gong Yoochan shouted, clearly worked up, and took another drink.

“Then why not live with me?”

Kim Woosun asked with a playful grin.

He was hoping that maybe, just maybe, Gong Yoochan would agree, even if only because he was drunk.

“Even so, I’m not living with you… Go find someone else, quickly…”

“I love Cha Joobin.”

Even while drunk, Gong Yoochan confirmed his feelings, leaving Kim Woosun with a sense of defeat.

Isn’t that right?

A brain already controlled by alcohol probably isn’t even aware of what it’s saying.

The fact that he’s constantly talking about how much he likes Cha Joobin, almost like a habit, shows just how deeply Cha Joobin is ingrained in his mind.

He probably won’t even remember saying that today.

Holding onto Gong Yoochan like this was only hurting me.

Kim Woosun decided it would be better to just take the hit and contact Cha Joobin before things got worse.

[Come get your brother.]

He didn’t want to call, so he sent a message instead. The ‘read’ sign popped up right away.

[Cha Joobin: Why are you with my brother?]

He was almost impressed by his audacity. He felt a twinge of irritation, but knowing how Cha Joobin would go through hell and high water for Gong Yoochan, he decided to hold back.

[Why’d you fight and send him my way?
If you don’t want him to come to me, treat him better lol
At this rate, he’ll be coming to me for good.]

Hmm, maybe he didn’t hold back. After sending that message, he casually put my phone down.

There was no reply.

He’s probably cursing me out, trying to hold back his boiling anger.

Meanwhile, Gong Yoochan’s phone, resting on the table, started buzzing.

He didn’t need to check to know it was Cha Joobin calling. Instead of answering, he left another message.

[(Map)
Come here.
Your hyung isn’t in any shape to answer calls right now.]

[Cha Joobin:
Stop letting him drink so much.
I’m on my way.]

It wasn’t him letting Yoochan drink, he picked it up himself.

He felt a bit wronged, but didn’t see the need to explain. Cha Joobin would always dislike him anyway, and he had no intention of fixing their relationship.

With Woosun’s chin propped up, he stared blankly at Gong Yoochan.

Completely drunk, he was swaying his head with a low giggle, even making sure to eat his snacks.

“Come to me when you get tired of Cha Joobin.”

It was a line Woosun always said, almost as a joke now, but it still hurt every time he said it.

“As if he ever will… if you were him….”

His consistent response only made it worse.

Gong Yoochan and Cha Joobin.

As someone who had liked Gong Yoochan even before they became a couple, all Woosun could feel was regret.

“I should’ve confessed first….”

Muttering in regret, he downed his drink.
