A case of Transmigrating as a Sick Villain chapter 96

* * *

The movie’s runtime was long.

Before it was even halfway through, Jingyeom’s phone began to buzz.

Startled, Jingyeom, who had been deeply immersed in the movie, grabbed his canvas bag.

Wonbeom checked the time and turned on the car’s interior light.

“It’s time to take your medicine.”

“…Okay.”

Jingyeom had been so focused on the movie that the interruption felt jarring.

Still, he hurriedly took out a pill from the medicine case, ready to quickly take it and return his focus to the screen.

“Ah… water.”

He had the pill, but no water.

Remembering that there had been plenty of food earlier, he wondered if there was any water left.

Just as he was about to search, an open bottle of water suddenly appeared in front of him.

“Here, drink.”

“Thank you.”

Jingyeom took the pill and drank the water that Wonbeom handed him.

He always felt like the pill got stuck in his throat, so he drank as much water as possible.

After drinking half the bottle, he finally felt the pill go down.

As he wiped the water from his lips with the back of his hand, the blood that had stopped started to trickle again.

His skin was fragile, and it seemed that the wound hadn’t fully healed.

Before he could lower his hand and see the blood, Jingyeom pushed his lower lip into his mouth and turned his head slightly to the side.

He didn’t want Wonbeom to see it, fearing that he might suggest they go home.

He wanted to watch the movie until the end, especially since it was one he had been wanting to see for a long time.

If they had gone home, he would have regretted it.

The last time he went to the cinema, it was fun, but there was something uniquely charming about a drive-in theater.

The sound that filled the car kept him on edge throughout the movie.

He realized that having a car allowed for experiences like this.

Since Jinwoo knew how to drive, Jingyeom thought he should get a job, earn a lot of money, and buy a car someday.

There were many things he wanted to do, and it would take time, but if he accomplished them one by one, he would surely feel proud.

Jingyeom briefly lost himself in these thoughts, but when he noticed that Wonbeom hadn’t suggested going to the hospital, he quickly refocused on the movie.

In contrast, Wonbeom’s gaze was not on the screen but on Jingyeom.

The reason Wonbeom chose the drive-in theater today was that he wanted to try something.

Feeding him popcorn.

He had bought caramel popcorn and various other flavors.

“I wanted to try this.”

Last time at the cinema, he hadn’t thought much about it.

But after seeing Soohyuk feed Jingyeom popcorn, it stuck in his mind.

It wasn’t just the popcorn.

At the barbecue restaurant, too, he had noticed how readily Jingyeom accepted food from Jinwoo.

Wonbeom wanted to try it at least once himself.

He hadn’t liked the course suggested by Lee Cheongoh, but without any better options, he followed through, and it didn’t turn out as badly as he had thought.

“Maybe I’ll get another chance.”

Wonbeom’s eyes were fixed on the droplet of blood on Jingyeom’s lips. It hadn’t fallen but had instead formed a tiny bead.

“He’s so fragile…”

Wonbeom couldn’t think of anyone as fragile as Jingyeom.

“A person who needs protection…”

To Baek Jinwoo, Baek Jingyeom was someone who needed protecting.

It used to irritate Wonbeom, but now he understood.

Because now, he felt the same way.

“Today was really fun! Thank you.”

Jingyeom quietly bowed as he got out of the car. It was late at night, so he couldn’t be too loud.

Wonbeom didn’t drive away as Jingyeom had hoped.

“I’ll walk you home.”

“It’s fine. It’s just around the corner.”

“I promised Secretary Baek that I’d make sure you got home safely.”

Determined, Wonbeom got out of the car, clearly intent on walking Jingyeom all the way to his door.

Not wanting to be rude, Jingyeom stepped forward and greeted the driver, Mr. Kim, in the driver’s seat.

“Then just to the gate.”

“Go ahead.”

Wonbeom led the way, and Jingyeom walked beside him.

Despite insisting he could go alone, Jingyeom was actually scared.

He had been receiving threatening messages and restricted-number calls even during the movie.

Trying to ignore them, Jingyeom stuck close to Wonbeom, but just then, a man suddenly emerged from the alley and reached out toward him.

In an instant, Wonbeom pulled the unprepared Jingyeom behind him, simultaneously grabbing the man’s arm and twisting it behind his back.

The man let out a pained scream as his arm was effortlessly twisted.

It all happened so quickly.

The man cried out in pain, sounding like he was on the verge of death.

“Ahhh! My arm!”

Jingyeom flinched at the desperate cry and instinctively grabbed the hem of Wonbeom’s coat.

He wanted to see what was happening, but Wonbeom’s firm grip on the man’s arm kept him from moving.

The man’s groans echoed through the alley.

“It hurts! It hurts!”

Feeling movement behind him, Wonbeom tightened his grip, signaling Jingyeom to stay still.

There was a grunt from behind.

Even a slight squeeze seemed to cause pain.

Wonbeom clicked his tongue and loosened his grip, but he still didn’t let go of the man’s arm.

“Baek Jingyeom! It’s me! It’s me!”

Jingyeom, hearing his name from the mouth of a stranger, peeked out to get a better look at the man. But from his position, he could only see the man’s back, unable to confirm his identity.

The man, still trapped in Wonbeom’s hold, struggled helplessly.

“Baek Jingyeom! It’s me!”

As the man called his name again, Wonbeom frowned and asked,

“Do you know this guy?”

“…No.”

Jingyeom answered with a face that showed he had no idea.

“Ha! So, you’ve found another guy already?”

At the man’s desperate outcry, a wrinkle appeared on Jingyeom’s otherwise smooth brow.

He barely remembered anything, and there were only a few people he knew.

He wondered who this person was, to come all the way here to find him, and tried to get a look at his face.

“…Hyung?”

“…….”

“Hyung, could you please let go of my arm…?”

Jingyeom wanted to check the man’s face, but Wonbeom, who was standing in the way, wouldn’t let go.

Even when he called out to Wonbeom and pressed down on his back with his other hand, he didn’t budge.

Meanwhile, the man kept screaming, and one by one, the people in the neighborhood began to open their windows to see what was going on.

The alley wasn’t wide, given that it was a residential area with a dense population, and the echo of the man’s shouts bounced off the narrow walls.

Jingyeom pulled on Wonbeom’s clothes with more force, fearing that too many people would gather.

Wonbeom glanced back, and seeing Jingyeom looking up at him with a scrunched-up face, nearly smiled.

Jingyeom looked like a kitten trying to swipe at a predator with its tiny paws, mistaking itself for a ferocious beast.

“Let go of either my arm or his arm. I need to at least see who it is!”

“What’s there to check? You said you don’t know him.”

“Well, that’s true, but….”

Jingyeom felt that this man didn’t recognize him but rather “Baek Jingyeom.”

He suspected that the man might have been one of the fish living in Baek Jingyeom’s aquarium.

Or perhaps one of those who had been sending messages recently.

Jingyeom tightened his grip on Wonbeom’s clothes, pushing his face out a bit more, wondering if this person could be one of those who had sent threatening messages.

“Can’t you just let go? What if his arm breaks…?”

Wonbeom didn’t care if the man’s arm broke or not, but since Jingyeom seemed scared, he looked at the man again.

The man was still making that unbearable noise, yelling his head off. Wonbeom squeezed the man’s arm even tighter before suddenly shoving him away.

The man, thrown to the ground, fell forward and rolled across the cement floor.

As his twisted arm hit the ground, he screamed again, just as expected.

Among the onlookers, some even pulled out their phones.

Jingyeom quickly grabbed onto Wonbeom’s clothes, surveying the surroundings.

“People are watching. Let’s just go home.”

“Let me handle this first.”

“…There are too many eyes here. Let’s move to another location.”

Jingyeom was worried that someone might post a photo or video online.

While he himself wasn’t likely to be recognized, Wonbeom was someone who needed to lead a company, so it was better to avoid unnecessary scandal.

Moreover, since he was borrowing someone else’s body, he wanted to avoid unwanted exposure.

Wonbeom, sensing Jingyeom’s desperation, reached out and grabbed the man still groaning on the ground by the nape of his neck.

“W-what are you doing?”

“Shut up.”

The man gulped and clamped his mouth shut when he met Wonbeom’s fierce gaze.

The man’s bravado from earlier, when he had reached out to Jingyeom without hesitation, was nowhere to be seen.

Despite the streetlights and the lights from the houses illuminating the surroundings, it was still night, and the man probably couldn’t see Wonbeom clearly.

With one hand gripping the man’s neck, Wonbeom grabbed Jingyeom’s arm with the other and began to walk out of the alley.

Since he couldn’t just let the man go, he led them back toward the parking lot.

Kim, the driver who had been waiting, hurriedly got out of the car.

“Contact Cheongoh and tell him to come immediately.”

“Yes, sir.”

Mr. Kim stepped back a few paces and made a call to Lee Cheongoh.

As he silently followed, Jingyeom tried to recall if he had ever crossed paths with this man before, but aside from Wonbeom and Soohyuk, there wasn’t anyone he had formed such a deep connection with that they would come to his house.

This person was clearly connected to Baek Jingyeom.

When their eyes met, Jingyeom, unable to contain his curiosity, asked the man a question.

“Do you know me?”

“Ha, shit. Now you’re pretending not to know? You were the one who seduced me first!”

“…I did?”
