Sole Omega in an Alpha Family chapter 20

* * *

After struggling to stay awake during the second period, thanks to the drowsiness caused by his cold medicine, he made it through to the third period, music class.

Leaving the music room, Jungin stopped for a moment, his ankle throbbing with each step.

‘It wasn’t this bad yesterday…’

His ankle, which he had twisted coming out of the bathroom yesterday, had gotten worse after that run-in with Jingeon this morning.

As he Imped down the hallway, someone suddenly grabbed him roughly by the shoulder from behind.

“Ugh…”

Already weak, Jungin’s legs gave way, causing him to stumble to one side.

Feeling pain shoot through his knee, he clenched his teeth and looked up to see who it was.

“Your face…”

‘My face?’

Jungin instinctively touched his face and realized his glasses were missing.

Looking around, he spotted his red-framed glasses lying on the floor a few feet away.

“S-sorry, here…”

“It’s fine.”

Jungin felt uncomfortable under the gaze of someone staring at his face.

Was this why he always wore glasses?

Everyone knew that Lee Jungin was good-looking.

His brothers had given him these glasses to hide his face, and Jungin had accepted them, pretending not to know their true intentions.

Taking a deep breath, Jungin adjusted his glasses and glared coldly at the boy still gripping his shoulder.

“Why did you call me?”

“Oh, uh, your homeroom teacher is looking for you.”

‘The homeroom teacher?’

There must be a reason the teacher who usually avoided him now wanted to see him.

There were two likely possibilities: either Jingeon had snitched about this morning’s incident, or the teacher was curious if Jungin had figured out who threw the flowerpot.

A small laugh escaped him at how predictable his teacher’s thoughts were.

“Are you okay? I feel like I hit you a bit too hard.”

It seemed like this nuisance wasn’t going away.

Jungin glanced at the boy still holding onto his shoulder and replied.

“I’m fine.”

“I didn’t mean to hit you that hard. But, you know-”

“You said my homeroom teacher is looking for me. I’d better go. Sorry.”

He wasn’t sorry at all, but he didn’t want to waste any more time on this.

There was no point in forming close relationships when they’d all disappear like smoke once things returned to normal.

Even his attachment to his brothers was overwhelming enough.

As Jungin headed toward the teacher’s office, he could feel someone’s gaze burning into the back of his head, but he ignored it and kept Imping down the hallway.

‘Knock, knock.’

He carefully knocked and entered the office, noting that it was mostly empty except for a couple of people.

‘Is something happening today?’

Scanning the empty desks, his eyes landed on a familiar figure sitting in front of a computer.

‘Yep, it’s him—the homeroom teacher.’

Seeing the teacher wearing the same light blue shirt he’d seen fluttering by the window earlier confirmed it.

But without evidence or someone to back him up, Jungin kept his expression neutral as he approached.

“You called for me?”

“Shouldn’t you have come to see me first when you got to school?”

The teacher’s words made it clear that he had noticed Jungin earlier.

“I’m sorry. But how did you know I was here?”

Jungin glanced subtly at the teacher’s desk.

“I got a message from your guardian saying you’d be a bit late because of a hospital visit. I figured you’d be arriving around now. Why? Is there a problem with that?”

“No, not at all.”

A faint layer of dust circled a round spot on one side of the desk, as if something had recently been there.

When I glanced at the teacher with a sly grin, he seemed to notice what I was looking at.

His face flustered, he hastily shuffled the papers on his desk.

“You! You know being late is still being late, right? You’re in your senior year, yet you skip self-study and even classes just because of a little cold? Do you think that makes any sense?”

His confident tone suggested he thought he had found the perfect opportunity to scold me.

Arms crossed, chin raised, he continued.

“Other students come to school no matter what, but I can’t make exceptions just for you. As per the rules, you’ll be responsible for cleaning the auditorium for the next three days.”

“Alone? Clean the entire auditorium?”

Hadn’t the secretary already informed them I was sick?

And now, they wanted me to clean the school auditorium alone, in a school with over 500 students?

“Yes. Any complaints? If so, I’ll call your parents.”

By “parents,” he might mean Lee Jungin’s parents, not my brothers.

I still wasn’t sure if he had a soft spot for Jungin or, as other students said, if he truly disliked him.

If it was the latter, he’d definitely despise something like this.

“No, I’ll do it. Cough, I’ll take care of it.”

As if expecting that answer, the teacher smirked and tossed me a key.

“Make sure it’s done by the end of lunch. Understood?”

“But it’s still fourth period?”

“Are you arguing with me? Whether you get permission from the next teacher or skip lunch to finish, that’s your business. Now get out.”

With a dismissive wave, he motioned for me to leave, turning his attention back to his computer monitor.

I dragged myself out of the office, sighing deeply.

The medicine had kicked in, and I felt slightly better than in the morning, but my body still felt as heavy as water-soaked cotton.

“Dr. Choi told me to take this if I was feeling too sick…”

I checked my jacket pocket for the medicine and headed back to the classroom.

Would I even need to attend class?

It seemed like I hadn’t properly attended since the first day I returned.

“Excuse me–”

I entered through the back door, bowing my head in apology, only to find the classroom unusually quiet.

When I lifted my gaze, I noticed the word “Self-study” written in large letters on the board.

It had originally been a PE class, but maybe because mock exams were coming up, we were given time for self-study instead.

“What a nuisance.”

“Sorry.”

“Figures. Look at him, born out of wedlock, causing trouble like that.”

The harsh whispers about my background pierced my ears.

Pretending not to hear, I turned my head and walked toward my seat, only to feel eyes boring into me.

“Ugh…”

Of all seats, the guy from earlier sat just a couple of desks away.

Did taking off his glasses make him think he was some sort of heartthrob?

His constant staring was unbearable.

Honestly, cleaning the auditorium might be better than staying in this suffocating classroom.

I hurriedly opened my bag to grab my gym clothes, but everything was gone.

“My stuff… it’s all gone…”

A surge of anger welled up inside me as I scanned the room.

Near the trash bin, I spotted my belongings dumped carelessly.

My gym clothes, in particular, were covered in footprints—clear evidence that multiple people had stepped all over them.

Veins bulged on my forehead as my patience wore thin.

Clenching my fists, I picked up my things and turned to face the eyes now watching me.

“Who did this?”

Silence.

Then came the laughter.

Mocking smiles spread across the room as if they found this whole situation amusing.

“I asked, who did this?”

Even though my voice carried clear anger, their reactions didn’t change.

To them, I wasn’t even worth acknowledging—just trash to kick around.

My fists trembled with rage as I stared at the ruined items. Just then, someone approached me.

“H-Hey.”

It was the boy from earlier.

Looking awkward, he helped pick up my scattered belongings around the trash and said in a guilty voice, “It was Park Hyuntae’s group. Sorry, I couldn’t stop them.”

After glancing around nervously, he whispered, “They’ve got their eyes on you. Be careful,” before quickly retreating to his seat.
