I am not a Yandere chapter 73

* * *

As he returned to the title screen, a notification popped up in his friend list.

He saw that all the players from the game had sent him friend requests.

MindYourOwnBusiness was especially rude, and KeepCaLMnKeYBoARDoFF had a messed-up nickname from the start.

As he scrolled through the list, adding his own little thoughts to each name, he suddenly froze when he spotted a familiar one.

  • PerfectlyFlawlesss has sent you a friend request.

[PerfectlyFlawlesss: You’re YeongdeokChicken, aren’t you?]

Eungyeol had sent him a friend request, along with a short message asking if he was really YeongdeokChicken.

Why would Eungyeol send a friend request even though he knew it was me?

As Yeongdeok stared endlessly at the monitor, his phone buzzed.

[Park Haemin: Ah, such a shame, we lost in the end ㅠ]

[Park Haemin: I thought we had it in the bag, like Dalsu said.]

[Park Haemin: Anyway, do you have time this weekend, hyung?]

Date with me. That’s where the chat ended, as if he was waiting for Yeongdeok’s response.

[Date?]

[Park Haemin: It’s nothing serious!]

[Park Haemin: Just grab some good food,]

[Park Haemin: And go to an arcade.]

He coaxed Yeongdeok, saying that if he was this good at games, he must be great at others too.

Although Yeongdeok wasn’t the type to be easily swayed, his eyes drifted back to the monitor, where Eungyeol’s username was still displayed.

Park Haemin.

He wasn’t the most likable guy, but considering they had met while trying to make friends…

Yeongdeok tapped his phone with one hand.

[Alright.]

[Park Haemin: Thanks, hyung!]

After finishing the chat with Haemin, Yeongdeok stared at the monitor again, wondering whether to accept or decline Eungyeol’s friend request.

The cursor hovered back and forth between accept and reject, eventually landing on reject.

Yeongdeok didn’t want to get entangled with Eungyeol any further.

“Hey, I heard you had a bet with Dalsu’s guys over lunch today?”

Jihoon brought it up as soon as he ran into Yeongdeok at the shop, probably having heard it from Dalsu, or maybe from Eungyeol, or even from someone else entirely.

“Yeah.”

“Did you win?”

“No, I lost.”

“There’s no way any of those guys are good at games. How did you lose?”

Jihoon remembered how terrible his friends were at games.

Even if it was a team game, there was no way Cha Yeongdeok could lose to such scrubs.

Suspecting that Yeongdeok had gone easy on them, Jihoon’s voice took on a sharp tone.

You always play for real when it’s against me, huh?

In the middle of their conversation, Yeongdeok’s phone buzzed.

Haemin had messaged him, asking about his food preferences way before the weekend meeting.

As Yeongdeok looked at his phone, Jihoon asked curiously.

“Who is it?”

“Park Haemin. We agreed to meet this weekend, but he’s already messaging me.”

“What? You’re meeting with him?”

“Yeah.”

Jihoon raised his eyebrow slightly at the unexpected response.

“…Just the two of you?”

“That’s right.”

“Why you?”

As the questions kept coming despite his answers, a hint of dissatisfaction flashed across Yeongdeok’s face as he looked at Jihoon.

“Do I have to explain to you why I’m meeting this guy?”

“But it’s strange. Why with him? And just the two of you…”

Jihoon found it odd that Yeongdeok, who never did anything he disliked, would agree to meet Park Haemin alone.

It made him uneasy, almost as if a twinge of anxiety was creeping into his chest.

“Well, he’s a potential friend.”

“What?”

Hearing the word “friend” once again come out of Yeongdeok’s mouth made Jihoon’s facial muscles twist as if he’d heard something distasteful.

And not just a friend—a “potential” friend? What was that supposed to mean?

“Park Haemin is a bit…”

To Jihoon, Park Haemin seemed like someone who didn’t care who he interacted with, always playing around lightly with people.

He had even listened to his juniors talk about him on several occasions.

Somehow, though, those juniors misunderstood and started teasing Jihoon, saying all the female juniors liked him.

Still, if Cha Yeongdeok liked this guy, Jihoon thought maybe he had no right to interfere.

If even the fortress-like Yeongdeok agreed to meet alone, it must mean that he liked Haemin quite a bit.

“Why is that?”

A vision of Haemin’s face, smugly smiling as he clung to Yeongdeok, flashed before Jihoon’s eyes.

Imagining that scene, Jihoon made up his mind easily.

Hell no. Over my dead body will I let Park Haemin have his way.

“Let me join you too.”

“You too?”

“Yeah. Wouldn’t it be better for you if I were there?”

Yeongdeok thought Jihoon was being quite shameless, but before he could say anything, he saw Jihoon’s message pop up in the chat group from their last meeting.

[Seo Jihoon: I’m meeting Park Haemin this weekend too.]

A reply from Haemin quickly followed.

[Park Haemin: Wish you’d get a clue.]

[Seo Jihoon: Oh, I did. That’s why I suggested it.]

[Park Haemin: Hah.]

[Park Haemin: Really? What’s Yeongdeok’s opinion on this?]

[Do as you wish.]

Yeongdeok honestly didn’t care whether Jihoon joined or not, so he just said to do as they pleased.

Yet Jihoon seemed to take this as a victory.

[Seo Jihoon: See, Yeongdeok says do as we please.]

[Park Haemin: I was looking forward to a one-on-one date with Yeongdeok. 😭]

[Park Haemin: (Crying Otaku meme)]

Just then, Dalsu, another member of their group chat, jumped in.

[Kim Dalsu: What? The three of you are meeting up without me?]

[Kim Dalsu: I thought you guys didn’t get along, but I guess not.]

[Kim Dalsu: I’m free too. Mind if I join you?]

Both Jihoon and Haemin seemed to agree on one thing for once.

[Park Haemin: No.]

[Seo Jihoon: Go away.]

[Kim Dalsu: Why are you guys excluding me…]

[Kim Dalsu: Fine, do whatever you want.]

Pouting, Dalsu didn’t send any more messages, but no one comforted him, so he gradually reappeared in the chat.

[Kim Dalsu: Why is nobody trying to stop me?]

[Seo Jihoon: Just take it as a sign.]

[Kim Dalsu: You’re the worst, Seo Jihoon.]

[Park Haemin: Heh…]

The chat room, which had been lively for a moment, fell quiet again after Haemin’s emoji.

“Looks like fun, doesn’t it?” Jihoon said with a sinister smile, stretching his body as if gearing up for another day.

In the unremarkable repetition of daily life, time flew by.

Before they knew it, the weekend arrived, and Yeongdeok headed to Daehan University to meet Haemin at the arranged spot, with Jihoon tagging along.

“I can’t believe I’m coming to school even on the weekend. What kind of meeting place is this?”

Jihoon muttered, rubbing his temples as he looked around the familiar school grounds he was sick of seeing.

“Yeongdeok!”

Just then, Haemin showed up, looking dressed to the nines, as if he’d gone all out today.

“I don’t recall giving you permission to call me that,” Yeongdeok said coldly.

“Aw, still with that? I thought we were getting pretty close,” Haemin said, trying to casually put his hand on Yeongdeok’s shoulder, only to have Jihoon grab his wrist tightly, making Haemin’s hand tremble.

“Damn, what a drama queen.”

“What’s your problem? Let go.”

Sparks flew in their eyes as they stood on either side of Yeongdeok.

Haemin pulled his hand back, then clung to Yeongdeok.

“Yeongdeok, what do you want to eat for lunch? I know some good places.”

“Hmm…”

Yeongdeok thought of chicken first, but before he could say anything, Jihoon interrupted.

“Just get some jjajangmyeon. There’s a good Chinese place around here called Nihao or something.”

Haemin’s face twisted into a forced smile at Jihoon’s blatant interference.

“Who orders jjajangmyeon on a date? Come on, even you must think that’s tacky, right?” Haemin said, turning to Yeongdeok.

“Is this a date? Who has a date with three people? Right, Yeongdeok?”
