“Young Master Timothy insists he has never approached the cave.”
“Then why did he go along in the first place?”
In the dark, the sound of a man tapping the armrest was accompanied by his voice.
‘Henry Timothy.’
He had ventured far to obtain treasure with the crown prince but reportedly did nothing when faced with it.
If so, it seemed his reason was solely to gain the crown prince’s favor—but that alone seemed suspicious.
“And it wasn’t him but the Duke Lorenz’s son he was close with.”
He’d planned to use them to draw in the crown prince, but now that he’d heard the report, he couldn’t think of a strategy that would work.
Just kidnapping the two wouldn’t likely draw the crown prince in.
When the man fell silent in thought, the messenger who had brought the report waited patiently.
“Come to think of it…”
Finally, a voice emerged from the darkness.
“Didn’t those who took the treasure say something?”
“They kept insisting the trap was set by someone with bright hair.”
“Ridiculous.”
The trap had been set by the man himself.
He’d placed a box filled with poison among the treasures, believing the crown prince would take it.
“Wait… thinking back, there’s a way.”
A bright tone echoed in the man’s voice.
“Since people already think someone else set the trap, what’s the harm in adding another lie? They said the culprit had bright hair, so we’ll pin it on Young Master Timothy. Just embellish the story enough to make it fit. Say the treasure is related to someone’s unique abilities.”
“I’ll put it into action immediately.”
“Yes, since the Beta took the treasure, those who consider it worthless will demand its release. While they’re stirring up trouble, we can blame the crown prince for covering up the issue.”
The man didn’t know what the great mage had left behind.
However, he had received a tip that the mage had researched pheromones, so connecting the dots to stir trouble wouldn’t be difficult.
Even if the item was unrelated to pheromones, it wouldn’t matter.
Nothing had been found when the cave was searched thoroughly, so they could make it fit however they wanted.
The man, who had turned the cave into his playground after finding nothing of value, chuckled with sinister amusement as he strung the details together.
“Even if Duke Timothy tries to shield his son, it’ll be impossible to quell everyone’s anger. His son took the treasure but isn’t using it, which will only increase the number of those coveting it. After all, human greed knows no bounds.”
Lost in his plans for events yet to unfold, the man muttered excitedly to himself.
“This is going to be fun.”
The thought of causing an uproar with a few well-chosen words brought a thrill to his face.
The moment Henry’s pheromones filled the air, Edwin’s heart pounded hard.
Although he’d been exposed to Henry’s scent throughout the day, resisting it in this very moment felt nearly impossible.
The faint pheromones surrounding Henry weren’t like the usual emotions he projected when expressing frustration or indifference.
No, it was the same alluring scent Edwin had inhaled before during one of Henry’s heats—a scent sweet and delicate enough to send shivers down his spine.
Edwin’s gaze grew increasingly heated as he looked at him.
A powerful urge to hold Henry and kiss him began to swell inside Edwin—a situation no one could have anticipated.
Violet, who had brought the item solely with her parents’ imprint in mind, didn’t have a partner of her own.
She hadn’t anticipated that this process would lead to her giving off pheromones here and now.
Thanks to this, Edwin found himself drenched in Henry’s pheromones, gazing at him with a barely restrained desire to reach out at any moment.
Meanwhile, with his eyes closed, Henry frowned slightly, sensing something amiss.
He assumed he was merely infusing the gem with his scent, a process he’d done before, so he thought it would be simple.
Yet today, his pheromones seemed to waver, failing to fully absorb into the gem.
“Should I stop here?”
When Henry opened one eye to check the gem’s color, he was startled by the sight of Edwin.
“Why are you looking at me like tha—umf.”
The pressure from Edwin’s hands gripping his torso was undeniable, but Henry couldn’t bring himself to push him away.
The intense, unfamiliar look in Edwin’s heated eyes was both recognizable and alien.
Just as he tried to remember when he’d last seen that look, Henry felt himself tipped backward.
“You…”
Henry instinctively closed and then reopened his eyes, feeling the back of his head hit the sofa.
Attempting to get up, he found himself restrained by Edwin’s firm grip.
As Henry looked up at him, trying to push Edwin away, the memory struck him—the same look Edwin had given him that night, during his heat cycle, when Edwin held him close.
“Why are you acting like this?”
“Your pheromones…”
Edwin stroked Henry’s neck, his touch lingering along his face and ears, steeped in palpable desire.
“It’s your fault for letting them loose, knowing how they affect me.”
“What are you talking about? You’ve been exposed to my pheromones all day, so why—um.”
Henry hastily covered his nose and mouth against the wave of Edwin’s pheromones, which felt utterly different from the frustration-laden scent he’d sensed earlier.
This time, the rich, intense pheromones made Henry’s entire body tense up in response.
“Just…hold on, stop your pheromones for a moment, okay?”
Henry struggled to wriggle out from beneath him, his senses overwhelmed.
But his resistance only gave Edwin further opportunities to hold him down.
As Henry tried to push Edwin away with his legs, Edwin wedged his own between them, trapping Henry completely.
When he twisted to the side, Edwin pinned him down by locking his elbow over him.
He was fully caged in now, their lower bodies pressed together, making Henry look up at Edwin, feeling utterly lost.
This was the last thing he’d expected.
As he tried to piece together how things had spiraled, he glanced at the item clutched in his fist.
He’d only intended to infuse the gem with his pheromones to give to Edwin, but it ended up stirring him instead.
“Please… calm down. Don’t you realize where we are?”
“You’re the one who caused this.”
With an unsettling calmness, Edwin squarely placed all the blame on Henry as he inhaled Henry’s pheromones deeply.
Henry froze, hand poised against Edwin’s chest.
‘Rather than pushing him away… it might be better to…’
Henry’s thoughts shifted, admitting that he too was nearing his limits.
When he tilted his head up, Edwin leaned down, their lips meeting.
They hungrily shared each other’s pheromones with each kiss, each breathing in the other’s essence.
Henry clung to Edwin’s neck, unable to hold back a muffled groan.
The pheromones he’d once wielded as a thorny shield had melted away, replaced by mutual desire.
For a while, they devoured each other’s lips, until, regaining some sense, Henry pushed at Edwin’s chest. This time, Edwin pulled back slowly.
They hadn’t gone all the way, but the feverish exchange of kisses and pheromones allowed both to regain some clarity.
‘I’ll have to include a warning about this.’
Though he doubted it would serve as a caution for anyone else, Henry knew he’d have to keep this in mind for himself.
Suppressing his own desire, Henry extended his hand, the fingers slightly tingling from holding on so tightly.
A delicate necklace slipped from his hand, unfurling smoothly.
As Edwin took the necklace, he had to struggle to rein in the stir of pheromones again.
A single thought echoed in his mind as he wet his lips, fighting back the urge to taste Henry once more.
‘My Omega.’
‘Mine to keep, my partner.’
