“Did you hear my thoughts again?”
“Yeah, perfectly clear.”
“We just barely touched fingers, and you’re counting that as a prayer? This is really uncomfortable for me. Can’t we fix this somehow?”
“That’s a bit difficult.”
“Seriously…”
Seo Woohyun exaggerated his complaint more than usual, trying to hide how flustered he was.
He knew his tone was somewhat irreverent, but he was too embarrassed to care.
After all, it was mortifying to have his secret—being twenty-nine and still never having kissed anyone—exposed.
But Seo Woohyun had his reasons.
First of all, he had been too busy just trying to survive, leaving no room for romance.
Plus, none of the guys around him were even remotely his type.
It was as if they were all halfway good-looking but fell short, to the point where their faces evoked annoyance rather than attraction.
Naturally, he ended up steering clear of relationships altogether.
“Why haven’t you had your first kiss yet? You look like this, so it’s hard to believe you weren’t popular.”
“Wh-why are you asking that all of a sudden?”
“Because I’m curious.”
Erdian, unusually energetic today, persistently pressed him.
Seo Woohyun’s gaze involuntarily drifted to his flushed cheeks and the playful sparkle in his eyes.
It didn’t seem like Erdian was just teasing—he genuinely didn’t know.
‘He knows I read fantasy novels and complain about the company, but he doesn’t know I haven’t had my first kiss?’
Seo Woohyun racked his brain, despite the pounding headache.
Judging from the context, Erdian had likely been watching him for some time, but there still weren’t enough clues to figure out when or why.
‘Ugh, my head hurts.’
Even a simple thought made his temples throb.
Seo Woohyun closed his eyes, and Erdian gently placed his palm on Seo Woohyun’s forehead, whispering softly.
“Are you okay?”
How could he be okay?
Seo Woohyun pouted.
His divine power was still depleted from his lack of experience, and his head was still spinning from the god’s sudden suggestion to “kiss and make it better.”
‘And your face is way too close… I probably look like a mess with this nosebleed.’
Rather than being overwhelmed by Erdian’s aggressive attitude, Seo Woohyun was more concerned about his disheveled appearance.
He didn’t want Erdian to see him looking like this.
Even though Erdian had already heard him gripe about his cramped, miserable life in his one-room apartment and all the complaints about his job, Seo Woohyun still wanted to leave a good impression on him.
Why?
Because of that face.
Seo Woohyun had never had a clear idea of his type before, but after seeing Erdian in his dreams, he felt his ideal type had finally taken shape.
When Seo Woohyun stubbornly avoided answering and averted his gaze, Erdian muttered in a voice that hinted at his waning patience.
“…Looks like our Seo Woohyun is feeling really bad. There’s no other choice, I’ll have to share some divine power.”
Feeling his face draw closer, Seo Woohyun, startled, pushed Erdian away.
Erdian, who had looked like he was about to kiss him out of nowhere, obediently retreated, his eyebrows drooping in a sulky expression.
“What are you doing? I told you, my face is all messy right now.”
“What part of it’s messy? Oh, is it because of the blood?”
Erdian took out a handkerchief and began wiping Seo Woohyun’s face without hesitation.
It was stained bright red from the blood, and Seo Woohyun felt like it was making him even messier.
He shot a protesting look at Erdian, who waved the now spotless handkerchief at him.
Despite having been soaked in blood just moments ago, it was now perfectly clean.
“Can divine power wash things too?”
“Yeah, but at your level, there’s no way you can manage that.”
“…Ah.”
“Now that your face is clean, how about a kiss?”
Just when Seo Woohyun thought he had successfully changed the subject, Erdian brought it back to the kiss.
First, he had probed him about his first kiss, and now he was asking if they could kiss.
The word “kiss” felt oddly out of place coming from a god who normally spoke in such elegant and refined terms.
“You could’ve phrased it better… Something like ‘physical contact to transfer divine power’ works too.”
Erdian chuckled.
His ears were flushed red, on the verge of embarrassment, yet he still seemed eager to avoid the topic.
Seo Woohyun couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if he didn’t play along.
But if he didn’t, he had a feeling Erdian might never reach out to hold his hand or seek him out again.
“Fine. So, are you going to accept the divine power or not? If you just want to lie down, go ahead.”
“Will the headache and dizziness go away if I accept it?”
“Of course.”
Seeing Erdian so proud of his abilities made it clear that the power transfer was effective, but Seo Woohyun still hesitated.
It wasn’t like they were sharing an intimate moment, expressing feelings, or even willingly kissing.
Instead, it was like a forced kiss because of Seo Woohyun’s inability to control his divine power.
‘This isn’t the mood I was hoping for.’
Since the divine power would recover slowly over time anyway, Seo Woohyun decided it was better to endure the pain and avoid the confusing situation.
He didn’t want things to get ambiguous between them, especially when Erdian’s behavior already left him feeling conflicted at times.
“I think I’ll just rest for a bit. No matter how I think about it, this doesn’t feel right.”
“If that’s how you feel.”
Erdian shrugged his shoulders, surprisingly unbothered by Seo Woohyun’s rejection.
‘Seo Woohyun is quite firm.’
He had thought that, since Seo Woohyun was the type to fumble through things despite his best efforts, a little push would get him to cave.
But Seo Woohyun always had a way of surprising him in unexpected ways.
“Alright, then rest up. You’ll feel better in a few days, so don’t worry too much.”
Erdian pulled the thick blanket up to Seo Woohyun’s chest.
Normally, he would’ve patted his chest gently, but he avoided it this time, knowing it would hurt.
After all, not even Erdian could do anything about the pain from Seo Woohyun’s depleted divine power.
While Erdian couldn’t deny there were some ulterior motives, it was true that the only way to transfer divine power was through a kiss.
A god’s kiss on earth was the most direct way to pass on divine energy.
Chief priest Tia had explained that divine power could also be restored through prayer, but that was a common misconception.
People believed it, so they felt it was true. Erdian didn’t bother correcting them.
Whether it was a misunderstanding or an implausible miracle, if humans believed in something strongly enough, it could become real.
That’s how faith worked.
It could even turn an ordinary person into a god.
The faintest hint of a smile crossed Erdian’s lips as his gaze fell on Seo Woohyun, whose face was still scrunched in pain. Stubborn, diligent, and sometimes clumsy, Seo Woohyun was always consistent.
[…Ciel.]
Erdian murmured a tender name. Though he didn’t say it aloud, the name echoed softly in Seo Woohyun’s mind.
“…Yes?”
Seo Woohyun responded, puzzled by the sudden voice calling his name.
His reply was still a bit slow, as if he wasn’t used to hearing it.
Erdian chewed on the silence that followed, trying to hide his impatience.
After all, he had learned to live with waiting.
Now was not the right time.
“If you’re still answering like that, you can’t be feeling too bad. I’ll wake you when it’s time to eat, so get some rest.”
“Okay.”
Hearing his gentle response, the other’s expression finally relaxed, and it made my chest ache for no reason.
But then I thought that if I had kissed him out of nowhere, I wouldn’t have seen that expression at all, and my anxiety subsided just as quickly.
After a bout of nosebleeds that left him drained, Seo Woohyun lay quietly with his eyes closed.
Erdian sat beside him in silence, keeping watch.
‘It might be better to just watch him from afar like I used to, even if it’s late.’
Listening to his irregular breathing made me feel slightly pathetic for using divine energy as an excuse to mess around with him.
If it had worked, maybe I’d feel differently, but since it was pointless, I likely just left him thinking I was some perverted idiot.
Being near Seo Woohyun, unlike watching from a distance, was rather difficult.
I’d find myself talking to him more often, with clumsy remarks escaping my lips, leaving me surprised at my own actions.
No matter how many times I told myself to keep my distance, I always found myself either wrapping my arms around his shoulders or lingering nearby.
‘What am I… A dog chasing its owner?’
Erdian let out a self-deprecating laugh.
