I am not a Yandere chapter 27

* * *

“What’s this? Yeongdeok Chicken knows how to talk like that?”

“Games are amazing. Thanks to them, I’ve learned a lot.”

“Cha Yeongdeok playing games? The sun must rise in the west tomorrow.”

“Seonwoo-nim, stop picking on Yeongdeok Chicken.”

“Yeah, yeah.”

As Seonwoo quieted down, a brief silence fell over the table.

Breaking the stillness, Choa spoke up.

“But why don’t you two get along? You seem to know each other. Did something happen between you?”

At Choa’s question, the other members looked at the two with curious eyes.

“Well, it’s because he’s annoying, frivolous, and just plain shallow.”

Yeongdeok said, thinking to himself, ‘It’s because that damned PetitRolang made our relationship like this. If I want to ruin this story, do I have to try to get along with that guy too?’

The thought disgusted him, and he stuck out his tongue in revulsion.

At Yeongdeok’s response, Seonwoo mumbled with a displeased expression.

“You always say whatever suits you. Do you even remember what you said to me back then?”

“No. What are you talking about?”

“Of course, you wouldn’t remember.”

As Seonwoo’s sarcasm set a strange mood over the table, the number on Yeongdeok’s ticket flashed on the screen.

His burger was ready.

“I’ll go get it.”

Once again volunteering to fetch the food, Seonwoo brought the burgers back to the table.

With food now in front of them, the members quickly lost interest in the tense atmosphere and each grabbed their order.

Yeongdeok, too, pulled his chicken burger closer and stared at it.

As Seonwoo sat down, he noticed the word “chicken” printed on the wrapper and asked quietly.

“I heard from Eungyeol. You opened a chicken restaurant?”

“Eungyeol told you that?”

Yeongdeok hadn’t seen Eungyeol since he returned back in time, so it must have been Seo Jihoon who mentioned it to him.

“Is that chicken shop on your open profile yours?”

“I don’t think you need to know.”

“Right, a person like me wouldn’t need to know what the great Cha Yeongdeok is up to.”

Seonwoo mimicked Yeongdeok’s tone mockingly, shrugging his shoulders.

“What’s your purpose? Did you open a chicken shop because chicken is Eungyeol’s favorite food?”

“I don’t know why everyone’s always trying to find some ulterior motive in what I do. I just wanted to open a chicken restaurant.”

“Because it doesn’t make sense for Cha Yeongdeok to open a chicken restaurant.”

“Come on, just eat.”

Watching the two bicker while staring at their burgers, Choa intervened.

“Yeah, yeah.”

Seonwoo replied cheekily, unwrapping his burger and taking a big bite.

While everyone else enjoyed their meal, only Yeongdeok sat there, watching them eat.

He had never eaten chicken with his hands before.

Seeing this, Seonwoo sneered.

“What’s wrong? Can’t bring yourself to eat this low-class food?”

With Seonwoo’s provocation, the other members chewed their burgers while glancing at Yeongdeok.

Faced with their innocent, blinking eyes, Yeongdeok finally unwrapped his burger.

After inspecting it for a moment, he closed his eyes and took a bite.

At that moment, he experienced a new flavor on his tongue.

It’s pretty good. Similar to a sandwich, but the taste was slightly different.

The fresh vegetables inside the bun complemented the crispy chicken and the sweet sauce perfectly.

After the first bite, the second came easily.

Satisfied with his meal, Yeongdeok wiped his hands and mouth with a tissue.

Once everyone had finished eating, Choa spoke up again.

“Looks like everyone’s done. Where should we go next?”

Yeongdeok checked the time at her words.

He had to open his shop soon, so going anywhere else was out of the question.

“I don’t think I can go. I need to open the restaurant.”

“Oh, right. You mentioned running a chicken place earlier. I overheard you guys talking.”

Seonwoo, who had been cleaning up the trash, grinned widely and spoke to the group with a bright expression.

“How about we visit Yeongdeok Chicken’s place?”

“…What?”

“Wow, I’d love to go!”

Soseki, oblivious to the tension, gleamed with excitement.

But Yeongdeok wasn’t one to soften under the gaze of a sixteen-year-old girl.

“Don’t talk nonsense. You’ll just get in the way.”

“Come on, we’ll just sit there. We’ll even order something.”

“……”

“Oh. Or did I just bring up something unnecessary? I’m sorry. I didn’t know it was a store about to close.”

Seonwoo and Yeongdeok’s gazes awkwardly met mid-air. Yeongdeok soon twisted his lips into a smirk.

“Fine. Though this isn’t a place for someone as lowly as you, I’ll give you a special tour.”

Yeongdeok said smugly, looking at Seonwoo.

The other members, sensing the atmosphere, started murmuring that they also wanted to join in on the tour.

After roughly cleaning the table and stepping out of the fast-food place, Yeongdeok led the cafe members toward his chicken shop.

It was the weekend, and the crowded subway kept bumping Seonwoo and Yeongdeok into each other as they stood close.

“Who knew Cha Yeongdeok could commute. Impressive.”

“I’d appreciate it if you could shut that mouth.”

“To be honest, I didn’t think you even knew how to tap a card at the gate.”

“Is that a self-introduction? Typical of you.”

“Guys, can you stop fighting even on the subway?”

Choa scolded both Seonwoo, who had started the bickering, and Yeongdeok.

“It was your brother who started it.”

As Yeongdeok complained, the subway suddenly jolted, and to avoid falling, he instinctively grabbed Seonwoo’s shoulder.

Though it was only for a brief moment, Yeongdeok, showing his displeasure, quickly shook his hand off.

“My hand’s gonna rot.”

“Unbelievable. That’s exactly what I was going to say.”

“Stop sticking to me.”

“Mr. Cha, can’t you see all these people around? It’s not like I’m clinging to you on purpose.”

“Hah…”

Choa eventually gave up on stopping the childish squabble and decided to pretend she didn’t know either of them.

It was hard to tell who was the child and who was the adult.

“Is this really Mr. Yeongdeok Chicken’s shop?”

The cafe members, now standing in front of Yeongdeok’s chicken shop, marveled at the bright red sign that read “Yeongdeok Chicken.”

As Yeongdeok unlocked the door, he nodded at DaerimdongFist’s question. As he entered, the members followed him inside like a string of sausages.

“Since you’re here, I’d like you to try some of my chicken. Seo Jihoon is hopeless when it comes to tasting.”

“Seo Jihoon? You mean Eungyeol’s friend?”

As Yeongdeok switched on the fluorescent lights one by one, he nodded.

“Yes.”

“And how are you so close with that guy, Mr. Cha?”

“We ended up as neighbors.”

Seonwoo’s expression shifted to one of disbelief, as if he’d just heard someone claim the Earth was square.

“Are you telling me you casually hang out with him? That doesn’t make sense.”

“A lot of things don’t make sense.”

Yeongdeok, already irritated by Seonwoo nitpicking at everything, donned a red apron over his suit. Seonwoo quickly spoke up.

“Wait a minute. You’re going to work like that? Aren’t you going to change?”

“Why should I?”

“You’re wearing a suit. What if it starts smelling like grease?”

“You really lack common sense. Wearing a suit to work is standard.”

“…Wow.”

Ignoring Seonwoo’s exasperation, Yeongdeok headed into the kitchen and began preparing the chickens that had been harshly rejected by Jihoon before.

First up were strawberry chicken, watermelon chicken, and cucumber chicken.

As Yeongdeok brought the dishes to the table, the unusual sight of the chicken made the cafe members visibly uncomfortable.

“…What is this exactly?”

Choa asked, poking at the greenish chicken with her fork.

Seeing her unease, Seonwoo quickly pushed the dish far away from her.

“Choa, don’t eat this. You’ll get food poisoning.”

“You can trash my cooking all you want, but the taste isn’t bad. I vouch for it.”

“Mr. Cha, is there something wrong with your taste buds?”

“My taste buds are perfectly fine. Just try it and judge for yourself.”

Though skeptical, Seonwoo peeled off a piece of the pink chicken and cautiously put it in his mouth.

The members eagerly waited for his reaction.

“How is it?”

Seonwoo chewed slowly, trying to figure out the taste, but eventually grimaced and covered his mouth. The chicken tasted like artificial strawberry flavor, the kind found in cheap candy. What kind of madness was this?

“It’s even worse than I imagined. I think I’m gonna be sick.”

Despite Yeongdeok’s confidence, Seonwoo, hoping against hope that it might not be that bad, spat the chicken into a napkin.

“What is this? Did you sprinkle strawberry-flavored drink mix on it?”

“Your taste buds are terrible. I used real strawberries.”

“Why would you put strawberries in perfectly good chicken?”

“I wanted to try something new.”

“That’s not innovation—it’s a plot to poison your customers.”

Annoyed by Seonwoo’s constant backtalk, Yeongdeok crossed his arms slowly. Just then, Gwakdupal pointed to the deep red chicken next to the strawberry one and asked.

“What about this reddish chicken?”

“That’s watermelon chicken.”

“And this green one?”

“Cucumber chicken.”

As Yeongdeok answered, the members’ faces grew even more tense.

Who in their right mind would pay money for such bizarre chicken?
