I am not a Yandere chapter 37

* * *

After paying the fare, Yeongdeok got out of the taxi without looking back at Jihoon and walked away calmly.

Jihoon hurried to catch up.

“Hey, are you seriously not going to say anything until we get out of the taxi?”

“……”

“You must be tired. You did well. Get some sleep.”

Even without Jihoon’s urging, Yeongdeok had already planned on doing just that.

As he walked up the stairs, slightly ahead of Jihoon, he suddenly felt his body heavier than usual and stopped in his tracks.

“What are you doing? Aren’t you coming up?”

“Hmm…”

Jihoon pressed from behind, but Yeongdeok paused to gauge his condition.

In the meantime, Jihoon caught up to him.

“Hey, are you okay? You’ve been acting strange since earlier.”

“I’m not sure.”

“It’s your body, how do you not know?”

Feeling frustrated, Jihoon inspected Yeongdeok’s face.

“Are you sick or something?”

“My body just feels a little heavy.”

“Isn’t that what being sick is?”

“Me? Sick? What are you talking about?”

“Damn it. How would I know? If you don’t know, how am I supposed to know?”

Jihoon massaged his temples, feeling like he was speaking a different language despite them using the same one.

“You should probably just go inside and rest. It might just be exhaustion.”

“I was already planning on doing that.”

Yeongdeok frowned at Jihoon’s cluelessness.

Acting like he knows something when he could only come to such a simple conclusion.

Once home, Yeongdeok hung his coat on the rack and plugged his dead phone into the charger.

Then, he collapsed onto his bright yellow bed, decorated with bear characters.

As soon as he hit the bed, his eyes started to droop, as if someone was pulling his eyelids down.

ꔚ

At some point, when Yeongdeok opened his eyes, a panorama of memories flashed before him.

They were so vivid, as if the events were happening right in front of him.

Standing in the middle of the road like a criminal before a guillotine, it felt like his entire life had been denied.

A large truck approached him, like it was delivering his final sentence.

Yeongdeok stared blankly as the headlights filled his vision.

In the moment before the truck hit him, the sound of the screeching tires piercing his eardrums reminded him of the mocking laughter of a P’tit Roland.

ꔚ

Ding dong, ding dong.

The loud sound of the doorbell snapped Yeongdeok out of his dream and back to reality.

At the same time, a loud knocking on the door followed, waking him fully.

“Hey, Cha Yeongdeok. How are you feeling? Any better?”

Jihoon’s voice came from outside.

Yeongdeok began to sit up but stopped when he felt his hands trembling. He looked at them, seeing they were shaking slightly.

Tilting his head to one side, he blinked in confusion.

“Hey? You’re alive, right? You didn’t die, did you?”

Yeongdeok walked to the door in response to Jihoon’s incessant knocking and opened it.

“Don’t go around acting like I’m already dead.”

“Hey, you—”

Jihoon’s expression twisted into something odd.

Yeongdeok, realizing why, reached for his throat.

His voice had come out sounding strange, like metal scraping against metal.

“My voice is weird.”

“No shit. I told you you were sick.”

“Is that so? Anyway, why are you here? Is it already time to open the shop?”

Yeongdeok reached into his pocket to check his phone before remembering it was still on the charger.

Jihoon shook his head.

“No, it’s only 12.”

“Is that so? Then why are you here?”

“Well…”

Jihoon mumbled, his lips curling, trying to change the subject.

“Anyway, forget about the shop for today. Just rest.”

“You sound like you’re the boss. I decide whether I rest or not.”

“Just shut up and rest. You know if you push yourself too hard, you’ll end up in the hospital and have to rest for even longer, right?”

As Jihoon kept insisting that he rest, Yeongdeok stared blankly at him, unable to understand.

“I don’t feel like I’m dying, so I don’t need to rest.”

“By that logic, why don’t you just eat one meal a day? You won’t die from that either. What kind of nonsense are you spouting?”

“Nonsense? That’s disgusting and crude.”

“Shut up.”

Without asking for permission, Jihoon barged into the apartment.

When the front door closed, Yeongdeok folded his arms and glared at Jihoon.

“Why did you come in?”

“Can you stop asking questions and just lay down quietly?”

“Why should I—”

Before he could finish, Jihoon pushed him towards the bed, forcing him to lie down, and warned him.

“I’m going to get some medicine from my place. Just stay here and don’t do anything.”

“I have medicine here too.”

Yeongdeok remembered the first-aid kit he bought along with the rubber gloves.

“Where is it?”

“I’ll go get it.”

Even if he told Jihoon where the medicine was, it would take him forever to find it.

As soon as Yeongdeok tried to get up, Jihoon pushed him back onto the bed.

Yeongdeok frowned in irritation.

“Why are you doing this?”

“Just stay put and do nothing, okay?”

Jihoon clutched his head in frustration, as if he were losing his mind.

Although Yeongdeok didn’t understand why he had to follow Jihoon’s orders, he did feel a bit more comfortable lying down, so he decided to stay put.

“It should be in the drawer under the TV in the living room.”

“Stay still. I’ll go look.”

Worried that Yeongdeok would get up while he was gone, Jihoon kept glancing back at him as he headed to the living room.

The sound of drawers opening and closing echoed through the small apartment.

Soon, Jihoon returned to Yeongdeok’s side with the medicine.

“I found the medicine, but… did you eat anything before I got here?”

“I didn’t.”

“Of course you didn’t.”

Jihoon grumbled as he walked out of the room again.

From the kitchen, Jihoon’s voice rang out.

“Can I open your fridge?”

“Go ahead. What are you doing?”

Jihoon didn’t answer, opening the fridge.

Inside, everything was neatly organized, but something in particular caught Jihoon’s attention.

“Why do you have so many different types of water? Are you a water collector or something?”

Inside Yeongdeok’s fridge, there was a single bottle of water from various brands.

Jihoon, not knowing that Yeongdeok deliberately avoided drinking only Evian, was puzzled by this quirk, thinking maybe rich people drank water like this.

After closing the fridge, Jihoon opened the freezer.

His expression twisted again as he saw the freezer packed with nothing but chicken.

“Why is it full of chicken…?”

“They’re all for making new chicken recipes.”

For the first time in a while, Yeongdeok spoke from the room, sounding proud.

“Don’t brag about that.”

Jihoon, who was rummaging through the kitchen shelves, wondering what to make, grabbed one of the many chickens packed in the freezer.

“Mind if I use the kitchen?”

“What are you even trying to do?”

Yeongdeok, not entirely trusting Jihoon, finally got up.

As YYeongdeok stepped into the kitchen, Jihoon, who was in the middle of filling a pot with water, pushed him back toward the bed.

Yeongdeok, now turning around because of Jihoon, frowned.

“Seriously, how many times do I have to tell you to just stay put? If you’re bored, just lie down and play with your phone.”

Jihoon powered on Yeongdeok’s phone, which was charging, and handed it to him.

Yeongdeok glared at Jihoon as he headed back into the kitchen, silently adding “weirdo” to his evaluation of him.

The sound of water gushing from the faucet reached Yeongdeok’s ears.

There was also the sound of chopping, followed occasionally by Jihoon’s muttering, “Ah, damn it.”

After quite a while, a delicious aroma began to waft from the kitchen.

Finally, Jihoon approached Yeongdeok again, holding a steaming bowl in one hand.

“Eat.”

“What did you make?”

“Chicken porridge. There were a ton of chickens in the freezer…”

Yeongdeok eyed the porridge Jihoon awkwardly handed him with suspicion.

“Your cooking skills don’t exactly inspire confidence.”

“Just shut up and eat it. I went through the trouble of making it, and you’re complaining already.”
