WMPW Chapter 6

Lucian urgently reached out to grab the scattered pieces of paper on the desk. He began flipping through them, one by one.

“Um, please… don’t touch that…”

Etienne, realizing that his precious research materials were in someone else’s hands, finally snapped out of his daze and tried to stop Lucian.

The lab notes containing his data were invaluable.

However, Lucian paid no heed and continued to leaf through the papers. Finally, with eyes wide in astonishment, he asked Etienne.

“What is this?”

“Can’t you see…?”

“Could it be…?”

His voice, uttering an utterly insane possibility, was uncharacteristically trembling.

“Did you intentionally stimulate your heat with drugs for research?”

Before Lucian, Etienne nodded indifferently, as if it was no big deal.

Lucian stared at him blankly for a moment then burst into laughter that echoed through the room.

“Hahaha! Haha… oh, really…”

He laughed almost like a madman, shaking with joy that was impossible to contain.

“This is amazing. You’ve really outdone yourself.”

“What do you mean, outdone…?”

“Indeed.”

Lucian’s eyes sparkled with intense possessiveness as he looked at Etienne. His captivating purple eyes gleamed chillingly, binding the other.

It was a far more intense desire and obsession than that of any Alpha’s longing for an Omega.

“I like you.”

Still smiling, he picked up the pieces of paper again and examined them, his eyes shining with a newfound desire, missing nothing as he read every word.

“Although there are exceptions, it is generally said that if a woman marries, an Alpha’s son will be an Alpha, a Beta’s son will be a Beta, and an Omega’s son will be an Omega.”

“Thus, when a son with different traits from his father is born, people say the woman committed adultery or was cursed, but many people forgot the most important thing… That the son’s traits are determined by the father.”

“In other words, it is highly likely that the trait is determined by the sex chromosome, and the exceptions mentioned above are mutations in the Y chromosome inherited from the father…”

Lucian couldn’t help but smile.

Though he couldn’t decipher much of Etienne’s notes, it was easy to understand that the content was groundbreaking and filled with new ideas.

Turning a few more pages, Lucian even found a human anatomy diagram.

“Though the extent of decay was severe, making it difficult to discern much, it seems that the organs of an Omega…”

While others might have fainted at such comments on an anatomical diagram, Lucian merely found it all fascinating.

He wondered where an orphan like Etienne might have obtained a corpse. Imagining the village cemetery in his mind, Lucian burst into joyful laughter once more.

“A masterpiece, a true masterpiece… beyond imagination.”

Still clutching the sheets of paper with one hand, Lucian knelt on one knee before the trembling Etienne on the floor.

He then reached out with his other hand and lightly grasped Etienne’s chin.

“I should apologize for my earlier comment.”

Lucian lifted Etienne’s chin slightly, making him look directly at him.

His fierce gaze penetrated the clouded green eyes. The enchanting purple eyes now sparkled with an extraordinary light.

What was in them was pure joy, intense desire, and burning exhilaration.

“You are special. Unlike those vulgar ones who indulge in their base instincts and traits.”

In the next moment, Lucian released his own scent that he had been holding back.

The refreshing scent of a forest quickly spread throughout the room. The heavy scent of ripe fruits and flowers gave way to the cool and clear scent of an Alpha.

Under the overwhelming pressure of the thick Alpha pheromones from all sides, Etienne twisted his body, momentarily unable to regain his senses.

A small moan, barely a whimper, escaped his parted lips.

“Hah, ah…! Ah!”

Under the Alpha’s scent, he twisted his waist and flinched for a moment.

In less than a minute, Etienne, now with a much clearer mind than before, got up.

“Huh…?”

The uncontrollable excitement gradually subsided.

Although a slight tremor and faint heat remained in his fingertips, it was not enough to overwhelm his rationality.

Etienne was enveloped in the cool, refreshing scent of an Alpha. It was like being comforted and soothed like a child.

It was one of the Alpha abilities Etienne had been so curious about. The pheromone effect that stabilizes an Omega.

“No, this can’t be…!”

But the emotion Etienne felt at that moment was far from joy. Realizing the change in his body, he frowned and dared to raise his voice at the duke.

“What are you doing, seriously! Instead of helping, you’ve ruined everything! I calculated the drug dosage and set up all the conditions!”

The reason was simple. His meticulously designed experiment was now in ruins.

Anyone could sympathize with his sorrow if they knew how painstakingly Etienne had prepared for this experiment.

He had to earn money to buy the drugs, and to earn money, he had to do all kinds of odd jobs, pouring in his efforts.

The anger Etienne felt at that moment was comparable to that of a graduate student who had lost weeks of diligent preparation due to an assistant’s mistake.

In short, he was extremely pissed off.

“I apologize for interfering with your research.”

Lucian, watching this scene, found it amusing and chuckled.

Most people would call that insane, but Lucian was different. He found Etienne to be a truly unique and attractive Omega. He couldn’t stop thinking that way.

It was only natural, as Lucian himself wasn’t quite sane either.

“But I wanted to have a proper conversation with you.”

He gently stroked Etienne’s hair and spoke. The silky brown strands rustled softly as they fell apart in his hands.

It was an impulsive act, done without much thought, but Lucien found the sensation quite pleasant, and a satisfied smile crept onto his lips.

“What conversation?”

“At first, I just wanted to exchange a few words… but now, looking at this, I’ve changed my mind.”

He stretched out his other hand, shaking the papers containing research records, and asked a question.

“Why are you doing this research?”

“Because it’s interesting…”

Etienne, still looking quite displeased, grumbled but answered honestly.

“It’s annoying how people believe in superstitions. Even pseudoscience drives me crazy, but I’ve come to realize that it’s nothing compared to the real superstitions.”

Etienne could speak so candidly because he still didn’t understand how terrifying the witch hunts and religious trials of this era were.

He had never seen someone dragged away and executed for blasphemy.

But to Lucien, who couldn’t know that, Etienne’s ignorance appeared as enviable courage.

“The more I know you, the more I like you.”

Lucien, who had been stroking Etienne’s hair with an odd touch, finally moved his hand to cup the Omega’s face.

“I thought you had a vulgar and lewd mind… I almost failed to recognize the greatest treasure of the empire.”

“The greatest treasure of the empire… what?”

Etienne tilted his head in confusion, thinking he must have misheard. As he did, Lucien removed his cloak and draped it over Etienne.

As the cloak settled, Etienne’s small body quickly disappeared beneath the fabric.

When Etienne peeked his head out, finding the cloak suffocating, Lucien stubbornly wrapped the cloak around him again.

He only spoke with a satisfied look when Etienne, having given up, quietly wore the cloak.

“I’ve had enough of superstitions too. Superstitions that claim Alphas are noble beings blessed by God, or that Omegas are the devil’s temptation sent to test humanity.”

And those words struck Etienne as deeply as his words had struck Lucien.

“It’s ridiculous. How can a mere trait cause such division among people?”

“You just said… ‘a mere trait’?”

“Yes.”

When Etienne asked in surprise, his eyes wide, Lucien nodded without hesitation and continued speaking.

Words that, until now, he had never shared with anyone but Etienne, words that contained his true feelings.

“When a plague breaks out, they say it’s God’s curse and we must pray. When there’s a famine, it’s the same. And if not that, they claim it’s because of the disgraceful behavior of Omegas, and we must offer sacrifices to appease God’s anger.”

“…”

“They have neither the will nor the ability to solve problems. Naturally, there’s no progress. It’s utterly disgusting.”

From Lucien’s eyes, Etienne could read many things: deep-seated revulsion, profound contempt, unyielding determination, and…

“My wish is to overthrow those disgusting superstitions, especially those about traits.”

The joy of finally finding a kindred spirit.

And that joy was not Lucien’s alone.

“Wow… amazing.”

For the first time since arriving in this new world, Etienne looked at Lucien with eyes full of admiration, having found someone who understood him.

“I’m so moved right now. How can such a normal person… How can there be someone in this world who speaks my language?”

A bright smile blossomed on Etienne’s face. The anger from the ruined experiment had somewhat subsided.

And for good reason, as Etienne felt like he had been thrown into a world of gorillas and had finally met a human being for the first time.

“You wanted an Alpha for your research, right?”

“Huh? Oh, yes. Of course.”

When the question came, Etienne quickly nodded in agreement. Lucien smiled confidently and declared.

“I’ll be that Alpha.”
