Henry’s face grew cold as the awareness of needing to keep his distance from Edwin surged within him. He had to find a way to avoid him at all costs.
“Since it looks like breakfast is about done, may I have a word?”
Henry was only stirring his soup and showed no sign of eating, and Edwin didn’t even pick up his utensils. Prince William clasped his hands together and created an atmosphere.
Though it sounded like a suggestion, it clearly carried the intent that he wanted Henry to listen carefully.
Henry, wondering what Prince William was going to say, eyed him with suspicion.
He knew that when the prince proposed something, it was never just a casual suggestion.
Prince William had a purpose, and his character was well-known.
“Before I set out on my journey, I learned that there is a famous fortune teller in this town. How about going to ask them about the treasure?”
“To the fortune teller, you want to ask where the treasure is?”
“Well, it depends on how you ask, doesn’t it?”
“Are you sure it’s really about the treasure?”
“Indeed. Just to mention it, although fortunes are not completely reliable, they say this fortune teller can predict anything just by looking at your face. It’s quite amazing to think whether it might be true.”
Prince William, as if just bringing it up, subtly revealed his ulterior motive.
After all, he wasn’t traveling just out of interest in the treasure.
The fortune teller was merely an excuse; he was genuinely curious and wanted to see for himself.
Henry debated whether to let himself be swayed by the prince’s curiosity or to refuse firmly. S
ince he knew this world well, he didn’t really need to rely on fortune telling and wasn’t inclined to believe in it.
On the other hand, if the information came from Prince William, the fortune teller must be extraordinary.
“Those who want to stay behind can wait here. Anyone?”
Henry raised his hand. It seemed intriguing, but he wanted to rest comfortably in his room for the day. Seeing Henry’s determined gesture, Prince William smiled and stood up.
“Thank you for raising your hand to go with us. Go ahead, Henry. And Edwin will come too.”
Prince William gave Edwin a command and turned around briskly.
Edwin, as if expecting it, nonchalantly got up, and Henry, half-dragged along, tapped his forehead.
He had fallen victim to the prince’s whimsical nature.
Moreover, if only he and Edwin were following, it meant the rest of the party would naturally move as well, making it the same as everyone going.
“Ha, I got played.”
Henry sighed deeply.
“Young Master Henry, I’ll be back shortly.”
As Hook arrived at the village where he was supposed to receive the item from the start, he quietly approached, noting that Prince William was not present at the moment.
Henry waved dismissively and got up from his seat, allowing him to leave.
While Sir Teher kept a watchful eye, Henry staggered out.
When royalty demands something, you comply.
As Prince William walked on foot, Henry and Edwin followed him, taking in their surroundings.
Passing through a busy market, they were so engrossed in observing the various goods being sold that they occasionally lost their way and had to rely on Sir Teher’s help.
“What’s that?”
“That’s dried fruit.”
Henry nodded to Sir Teher’s kind explanation. It was different from the dried fruit he was familiar with, so he didn’t recognize it.
When Henry pointed to the next item, Sir Teher explained it in detail within his knowledge.
“And what about that one?”
Henry, who had claimed he would stay in the room, was enjoying himself the most. So much so that even the front-running William smirked at Henry with amusement.
Despite the surroundings, Henry, who had been looking around with curiosity, stopped when they reached their destination.
“Is this the place?”
“Yes, it looks unusual from the outside, doesn’t it?”
“…It does.”
The building that housed the fortune teller was actually an inadequate structure that barely deserved the name.
Seeing the old tarp haphazardly draped over some branches, fluttering incessantly in the wind, Henry’s expression crumpled.
Could he really trust Prince William on this?
As if reading Henry’s thoughts, William stepped forward. Henry, who intended to pass the time around the area until William entered, turned his head at William’s call.
“From here on, you can only enter one by one.”
William was holding open the entrance to the tent.
Seeing this, Henry instinctively took a step back. Wasn’t this an indication for him to go in first?
“There’s nothing to ask about.”
Henry subtly showed his reluctance to enter, but William continued to smile and press him.
With a forced sense of being dragged along by William’s encouraging smile, Henry went inside.
“Why do I have to come here…”
Henry’s grumbled words were barely heard when the fortune teller inside abruptly shouted.
“Don’t be so arrogant, thinking you know everything. You can’t even see a step ahead of you.”
Henry, unsure if this was directed at him, locked eyes with the old woman.
Her face was covered in wrinkles, yet her eyes were strangely pure, like those of a child, making her seem even more out of place.
“What do you mean I know something?”
“Do you think everything will go according to the future you know?”
“…”
Henry tried to hide his embarrassment too late, but it didn’t work well.
“Even so, you’ve only glimpsed a fragment of this world. You’re not the creator of the world; you just peeked in from the side, so what’s with the confidence? Do you find this world so trivial?”
“I don’t understand what you’re saying right now.”
Henry offered a feigned ignorance. The old woman’s words struck him deeply, but he still had a lingering doubt that refused to be dismissed.
“Since you’re here, you are now a soul of this world. But do you know everyone here? You can’t even trust me to look into your innermost being, can you?”
It felt like she was casually stirring around in his deeply hidden secrets. Henry set aside his initial disbelief and looked at the old woman seriously.
As Henry’s attitude changed, the old woman’s anger seemed to dissipate. She appeared to have no personal feelings toward Henry, only seeming to mutter in disappointment.
“Can you see my soul?”
“It’s different from the physical face. However, your soul is gradually adapting to your body.”
“…So I will continue to live in this body?”
“Right. You’re adapting quite well, but what can we do about the fundamental instability?”
The old woman clicked her tongue disapprovingly.
“What do you mean by that…”
“It seems you’re trying to break the chains that bind you, but the wheel of your fate has already started turning.”
Henry’s eyes betrayed a flicker of unease. After pondering the old woman’s words several times, he cautiously asked,
“From when exactly has this wheel been turning…?”
“From the day you set out to break your chains. You might not know it, but the events have already begun.”
Henry bit his lip, regretting that he couldn’t go off on his own with Edwin.
But that was in the past. What mattered now was what to do moving forward.
“Right, child from another world. Even if you didn’t choose this body, you are already bound by it. You bear the destiny that a child originally should have. What are you going to do now?”
The old woman’s eyes sparkled with interest as she asked. She could only glimpse Henry’s fate but couldn’t change it.
If he gave up and resigned himself to his destiny, she might be able to tell him how to at least avoid a short life.
Henry fell into deep thought at the old woman’s question. He had thought he was adapting well to this world, but if she was right, he still had a long way to go.
Not knowing how to return, he had resolved to make the best of this body, but his determination was flickering out like a candle in the wind.
Anticipating Henry’s expression to crumble, the old woman raised her staff and tapped him on the shoulder. At her call, Henry slowly lifted his head.
“Hmm.”
The child’s eyes, which she had expected to be disappointed, were shining brighter than before.
“What should I do? I must break my chains, even if it means turning the wheel of fate.”
“Do you believe you can change your destiny?”
“I’ve come this far on a long journey precisely to change it.”
“And what about the fate of another child that might be disrupted because of you?”
The person Henry thought of in response to the old woman’s question was Kayla Fontecia. He was Edwin’s partner in destiny and the owner of the treasure Henry intended to claim.
If Henry took that treasure, Kayla’s fate would certainly change in some way.
Yet, Henry’s expression remained as sullen as before.
“And what of it? Is it any of my concern?”
I’m struggling with my own issues, so why should I worry about someone else?
