Despite his explanations, Zhuang Yi was still dragged away by the basketball team captain.
The others exchanged glances for a moment before dispersing, each heading home to their mothers, showing no camaraderie.
Only Fang Shucheng felt a bit guilty, “Xie Jun won’t bully Zhuang Yi, will he?”
Wei Jie thought for a moment, “It’s okay, it’s not your fault.”
He suspected that Xie Jun did it on purpose.
Fang Shucheng looked confused.
Wei Jie chuckled, “Who cares about them, let’s go home.”
They lived on the same street and went to and from school together almost every day, childhood friends.
Fang Shucheng was suspicious, “It’s like you know something.”
Wei Jie put one hand in his pocket and clicked his tongue, “Why do you only care about other people’s business? Think more about your husband, okay?”
Fang Shucheng retorted, “We haven’t decided who’s the husband yet.”
Wei Jie puffed out his chest, “With your small frame, huh? Still not calling me husband?”
Fang Shucheng glanced at Wei Jie’s chest muscles and hummed jealously, “Economic foundation determines the superstructure. Just being physically strong is useless.”
“You’re that confident you’ll make more money than me in the future?”
Fang Shucheng: “Who told you not to study hard? If you don’t get into college, I’ll have to work and study to support you in junior college.”
Wei Jie: “…”
Fang Shucheng: “Do you know how expensive junior college is? You’re such a grown-up, still making your parents pay, aren’t you ashamed?”
Wei Jie: “Then I won’t study anymore, I’ll go to work, and earn money for you to go to school.”
Fang Shucheng: “That’s not good. You’ll only be eighteen after high school graduation, without a degree, you can only work as a waiter in a small restaurant!”
Wei Jie: “…”
Fang Shucheng: “Or a delivery guy!”
Wei Jie: “Damn.”
Wei Jie, annoyed and frustrated, exclaimed, “We’re only in the first year of high school. How do you know I won’t get into college? I’ll get in with you and still be the husband.”
Fang Shucheng was pleased, “You said it, then you need to start working hard now. At this rate, you won’t make it.”
Wei Jie: “…”
Wei Jie squinted his eyes, “You’ve learned some tricks, haven’t you?”
Fang Shucheng immediately sensed danger, quickly backed away, and unexpectedly stepped on a small stone on the ground, his body tilting.
He quickly exclaimed, “Ouch, I twisted my ankle!”
Wei Jie came over to help him, scolding, “Can’t you watch where you’re going?”
Fang Shucheng secretly smiled, leaving Wei Jie puzzled, “Why are you grinning like an idiot? I’ll carry you, hop on.”
Fang Shucheng climbed onto Wei Jie’s back, loosely wrapping his arms around his neck, unknowingly resting his chin on Wei Jie’s shoulder.
They were the same age, but Wei Jie’s back was much broader, giving Fang Shucheng a strong sense of security.
Wei Jie shifted him on his back, dissatisfied, “You’re too skinny, feather-light. Don’t you love sweets? Where did it all go? Why don’t you gain weight?”
“Aren’t you strong? I gave all my food to you.”
Wei Jie: “I’m tall and fit. But you’re fine as you are…”
Wei Jie imagined Fang Shucheng as a muscular version of Popeye and shuddered, mumbling, “Better small, definitely better small.”
Fang Shucheng pinched Wei Jie’s ear, “What nonsense are you thinking?”
Wei Jie, without hesitation, said, “Thinking about you.”
Fang Shucheng: “…”
Wei Jie asked him, “Do you think about me?”
Fang Shucheng was speechless, “You’re right here, why would I think about you?”
“That’s different.” Wei Jie glanced back at him, “I almost forgot, you haven’t said you like me yet, I’m losing out here.”
Fang Shucheng, annoyed, “You haven’t said you like me either, am I not losing out?”
Wei Jie: “Damn, you should have reminded me.”
He looked around; people were busy with their own things and not paying attention to them, “Come closer, I’ll tell you.”
Fang Shucheng’s heart leapt, and he leaned his ear towards Wei Jie’s mouth. Wei Jie quickly turned and pecked his cheek.
Fang Shucheng: “!”
Fang Shucheng: “You didn’t keep your word!”
Wei Jie, smug, “You idiol.”
Fang Shucheng, exasperated, accidentally brushed his hand against the stubble on Wei Jie’s chin and impulsively tugged.
Wei Jie yelped, “Stop, stop, don’t pull my hair!”
Passersby stopped and stared at them in horror.
Fang Shucheng: “…”
Fang Shucheng bit down hard on Wei Jie’s shoulder, refusing to speak any further.
