Sole Omega in an Alpha Family chapter 21

* * *

Park Hyuntae’s group? Who were they? Was Jungin being harassed just because of his birth?

Frustrated, he bit his lip and threw his damaged items into his bag. If he left them behind, it would just happen again.

With no other choice, Jungin packed up and left the classroom.

As he walked out, he could hear them whispering, probably thinking he was running away.

“This sucks…” he muttered.

Already feeling weak, the situation completely drained him. He worried about getting locked in somewhere again, but at least he had his phone this time.

Jungin ducked into a bathroom to change into his gym clothes.

“I wonder if the recording worked…” he thought, pulling out the voice recorder he’d bought to collect evidence.

He wasn’t sure if it had captured everything, but at least it was worth a try.

Thank goodness for fast shipping… Even though sneaking out to buy it late at night had been exhausting, seeing the pile of evidence he was collecting made it all worthwhile.

Stuffing the recorder into his gym pants, Jungin made his way to the auditorium.

Unlocking the door and stepping inside, the space seemed even larger than he had imagined.

“They expect me to clean all this…?” he sighed.

They said all he had to do was tidy up and sweep the floors, but this wasn’t going to be quick. The sheer number of chairs stacked inside made him sigh again.

“How am I supposed to do all this by myself?”

Exhaustion weighed on him just thinking about it.

It was a good thing he had already changed into his gym clothes. Time was tight, so he rolled up his sleeves and started stacking the chairs five at a time.

How many times had he repeated the process?

Sweat trickled down his forehead, and his legs and arms were shaking from exhaustion. Yet, only half of the chairs were done.

Just as he was catching his breath, a creaking sound echoed from the door.

Someone had entered the auditorium.

Damn, he forgot to lock it. Jungin didn’t have the energy to deal with anyone right now.

Just in case, he pressed the record button on his voice recorder.

“Hey, Lee Jungin,” a voice called.

“Huh? You’re…” Jungin looked up at the tall guy standing in front of him.

“How did you find me here?”

“Well, I thought I’d help you out a bit…”

He scratched the back of his head awkwardly and handed me some bread and milk.

“You probably didn’t get to eat lunch, so I brought you this. And I’ll help you with the chairs, right?”

Blushing, he started stacking chairs three at a time.

What had taken forever alone was suddenly going much faster.

‘At this rate, I could finish before the end of lunch.’

“Hey.”

“Uh, yeah?”

“What’s your name?”

Suddenly called upon, his face showed a brief moment of confusion, but he soon brightened up and spoke.

“Ji Woohyun…”

“Thanks, Ji Woohyun. You’re actually pretty decent.”

In response, Jungin extended his hand for a handshake.

He had initially thought they were all the same, but it seemed like there was at least one decent person among them.

As he took a bite of the bread Woohyun gave him, the sweet taste of milk cream filled his mouth.

“Uh, um… you’ve got something on your lips…,” Woohyun pointed out, staring at Jungin’s lips. Realizing, Jungin quickly stuck out his tongue to lick his lower lip, which caused Woohyun’s face to flush red.

Is he feeling really hot? Jungin wondered.

“Hey, slow down. Let’s finish this up together after you’re done eating,” Woohyun suggested.

“No, it’s fine,” Jungin responded.

Woohyun quickly turned his head and started tidying the chairs with even more effort and speed than before.

Jungin hadn’t even finished half the bread, but at this rate, Woohyun would be done with everything by himself.

Feeling a bit anxious, Jungin hurried to finish eating, but in his haste, he choked on a piece of bread.

“Gack, cough, cough—”

“You okay?” Woohyun asked, startled.

Even to Jungin’s own ears, his breathing sounded labored. Woohyun, alarmed by the sudden coughing fit, rushed over, knocking over a chair in the process.

“Here, drink some milk,” Woohyun offered.

“Cough, cough, yeah…” Jungin replied, sipping the milk slowly. He felt Woohyun’s hand gently patting his back.

Once Jungin had caught his breath, Woohyun spoke again. “Just take a break. I’ll handle the rest.”

“No, I should do it. The homeroom teacher assigned it to me,” Jungin insisted. He was already thankful for Woohyun’s help and didn’t want to dump the task on him entirely.

This guy… Jungin thought. He’s turning out to be a better person than I thought.

Jungin pressed the power button on the still-active recorder, holding it down until it turned off, then stood up.

While moving the chairs back to the storage room and sweeping the floor, Woohyun, who had gone to rinse a mop in the bathroom, called out.

“Hey, Jungin.”

“Yeah?” Jungin responded.

“Um… sorry. I think I had some preconceived notions about you based on rumors. I’m really sorry.”

Ah… That’s understandable, Jungin thought.

The younger someone is, the more susceptible they are to their environment.

In a place where everyone was hostile toward him, it made sense that Woohyun could’ve been swayed.

But the most important thing is acknowledging when you’re wrong and apologizing for it.

In that regard, Ji Woohyun was different from the other kids in the class.

“Thank you for apologizing. But—”

Jungin gripped the broom tightly and stepped closer to Woohyun.

“Can you tell me what those rumors were?”

Woohyun looked nervous, startled by the sudden approach.

He gulped and, after a moment of hesitation, nodded slowly.

“Mr. Lee, the A and B production lines at the Gangneung factory have resumed operation.”

“Good. Everyone’s worked hard.”

The day had been chaotic due to the fire at the Gangneung factory that halted production.

Jungjin hadn’t even had a chance to eat lunch, nor had he been able to contact his younger sibling, which weighed on his mind.

[Hyung, I made it to school safely. Work hard and earn lots of money so you can give me plenty of allowance!]

Going through his messages later, he smiled softly at the text from Jungin.

Though Jungin had lost his memory after a car accident, seeing his bright demeanor lately had brought a rare sense of peace.

Maybe it was better this way, for Jungin to continue living without his memories.

“Secretary Kim.”

“Yes, sir?”

“Has the chairman’s return date been confirmed?”

Normally, he’d have been back by now, but for some reason, he decided to stay in New York for another month.

Even in the midst of his son’s critical condition.

“There’s still no exact word.”

As usual, he’ll make a sudden decision, but Jungjin wanted to delay the meeting between Jungin and Chairman Lee for as long as possible.

“Sigh… I’ll be leaving for the day. It’s almost time to pick up the kid. You should head out too, Secretary Kim.”

“Yes, understood.”

Secretary Kim bowed and was just about to leave the office when Jungjin stopped him with a smile.

“Oh, by the way, I spoke with the youngest one’s homeroom teacher earlier. He’s been attending classes well, and apparently, he’s already quite popular with his classmates because of how lively he is.”

“Is that so?”

Strange.

Jungin had never been the outgoing type.

Thinking of his little brother, who always had trouble adjusting to new people, Jungjin tilted his head in confusion before eventually nodding.
