Ye Eunsoo glanced at the person who dared interfere with what he was about to do and thought he looked like “the fool Jake.” Both her appearance and the aura she carried.
However, hers was just a bit more refreshing.
“Oh, is that so?”
Arriving late, Ye Eunsoo hadn’t heard all of what Yang Heewoon had discussed with the woman.
But he had an idea. How she could have provoked Yang Heewoon’s anger.
“The bones are fully healed. The quick treatment should prevent any aftereffects. If there is a problem, it might be psychological shock from the pain… I’m sorry. I overlooked this part. I was too focused on treating him quickly…”
“If you’re done with the treatment, move your hands.”
Ye Eunsoo pulled Yang Heewoon back into his arms.
He lowered his gaze and carefully wiped his face, which was smeared with tears and dust, with his sleeve.
Even though he was unconscious, the pain still lingered on his expression.
His face was pale.
The only saving grace was that his body temperature was high, possibly because he’d just received treatment from an Esper.
If his body had been cold, he would not have stopped doing what he intended just because of what the woman had said.
Rubbing Yang Heewoon’s cheeks with his palm to bring back some color, Ye Eunsoo added,
“You were involved too.”
“…”
The woman didn’t make any excuses. She withdrew her hands and took a step back, as Ye Eunsoo had suggested.
Ye Eunsoo liked this aspect of her.
After a brief contemplation, he rummaged through Yang Heewoon’s pockets, took out a car key, and tossed it toward the woman.
“I can’t drive.”
“…I’ll take him to the hospital.”
“No, we’re going home.”
The woman wasn’t bad at handling things.
Yang Heewoon’s condition was stable.
Leaving him in the hospital would only worsen things—getting stuck with Espers who would cling to him for guidance, blabbering idiots from the Bureau, and, above all, confronting that bastard who was the culprit again would undoubtedly have a worse effect on Yang Heewoon.
Ye Eunsoo lifted Yang Heewoon up.
Since Yang Heewoon was taller than him, he looked rather comical, but Ye Eunsoo didn’t care.
He just hoped his poor posture wouldn’t wake or discomfort Yang Heewoon.
Despite the murmurs and whispers around him, Ye Eunsoo ignored them without batting an eye and quickly walked away.
“Uncle, what on earth is going on here?”
Just as Ye Eunsoo was about to leave the hallway outside the interrogation room, a familiar face arrived late to the scene.
A man in black.
The third Esper under Yang Heewoon’s charge, who had tried to mess around with him in the hospital bed.
That alone was enough to annoy him, but there was another word that caught his ear.
‘Uncle? Ah, so that’s it…’
Upon closer inspection, just like the fool and the blonde woman, there was a peculiar resemblance between the man in black and the culprit in this case.
Their appearances, the form of their aura.
Ye Eunsoo couldn’t help but smile.
‘You’ve got to be kidding me.’
A man who was already an eyesore had now become a giant thorn.
A threatening thorn that might stab Yang Heewoon’s heart if things went wrong.
It had to be broken in advance.
For now, however, the priority was to move Yang Heewoon to a safe place.
He tightened his grip on the arms holding Yang Heewoon.
He intended to pass by the man as quietly and swiftly as possible.
But the man in black spotted Yang Heewoon in his arms first.
Realizing the situation too late, the man gasped in surprise.
Tsk, a sound of annoyance escaped through Ye Eunsoo’s lips.
“Yang Heewoon…? No way…”
“Behave yourself.”
Ye Eunsoo glared at the man in black while stepping back to avoid the hand reaching out for Yang Heewoon.
But soon, he smiled brightly.
“It would be troublesome if the whole family were to end up dead, wouldn’t it?”
When I opened my eyes, I was at home.
Judging by the darkness around me, it was either night or early morning.
I was lying on the bed that Eunsoo had offered me when he entered our home.
Did Eunsoo bring me home?
‘Not the hospital…’
Well, it makes sense.
With Maria Polwel personally focusing on my treatment, there wouldn’t have been much more they could do at the hospital.
My physical condition wasn’t bad, either.
I felt lighter than usual, as if the excruciating pain I felt yesterday was just a dream.
But it wasn’t a dream.
Although I’d rather believe what happened before I got hurt wasn’t real…
As I turned over with a sigh, I noticed a note on the small bedside table next to the bed.
“I’m really sorry.”
The handwriting was crooked, like a child who had just learned Hangul.
It was obvious who had left it.
It must have been Maria Polwel.
‘If you were sorry…’
She could have canceled her damn plan to exploit Eunsoo.
I swallowed my rising resentment as I closed my eyes.
And suddenly, I realized I had forgotten something important.
“Ah.”
I looked around, but Eunsoo was nowhere to be seen.
“Eunsoo!”
My heart dropped, and I rushed outside.
Luckily, Eunsoo was at home. He was curled up, asleep on the living room sofa.
Seeing his sleeping soundly brought a momentary sense of relief, but then I felt pity for him, all curled up on the small sofa.
‘He could have just laid out a blanket and slept on the floor…’
Even though Eunsoo was small, our sofa was smaller. Moreover, it was old, with terrible cushioning.
I should have replaced the sofa, seeing his sleeping uncomfortably made my heart ache.
I wanted to pick his up and move his to the bed right away, but…
With Yang Heewoon’s frail body, I couldn’t lift a 19-year-old boy. I didn’t want to wake him up, either…
Feeling helpless, I stood there for a while, staring blankly, when I noticed a dark silhouette lingering outside the window.
Could it be someone with ill intentions?
Grabbing the device tightly, I checked outside, then realized—perhaps it was someone I knew.
There aren’t many people with that kind of build.
“Why are you here?”
“Heewoon…”
When I opened the door and stepped out, it was indeed a familiar face.
A man towering two heads above average, with a broad body to match.
The striking red hair.
It was Rex.
“Sorry. The damn kid told me to leave… but I couldn’t feel at ease without seeing you…”
It’s a wonder the police haven’t shown up with such a big guy lingering around the front door.
…Maybe they’ve already come and gone.
Rex stepped toward me.
“How are you feeling?”
He didn’t wait for my response after asking the question.
His blue eyes scanned my body as if examining every inch with concern.
I spread my arms out.
“I’m fine. See? I’m perfectly okay.”
“Thank goodness…”
I had been thrown against a wall by a telekinetic esper.
If my body had been as fragile as Yang Heewoon’s sugar cookies, it wouldn’t have been surprising if I ended up crippled.
The only reason I could stand up now was thanks to Maria Polwel’s power.
As an S-rank healing esper from the Polwel family, he had treated me as soon as I was injured, allowing me to recover without any lasting effects.
My mind was a jumble of thoughts.
The way he got angry at Cha Younghwan and treated me without hesitation was definitely the “Polwel” I remembered, but why…
My thoughts were becoming more and more chaotic, tangled up in confusion.
I decided to push away the endless stream of questions and deal with the urgent matters first.
“Sorry, but could you help me with something?”
“Huh? With what?”
“Well…”
What else could it be? I needed help moving Eunsoo.
When I asked Rex to help make the “brat who wouldn’t let him in” sleep comfortably, he frowned, his red eyebrows furrowing in dissatisfaction, but he still entered without further complaints and did as I asked.
For strong Rex, the small Eunsoo was like a ragdoll.
He picked his up without much effort and moved his to the bed with barely a shake.
Seeing Eunsoo peacefully sleeping on the bed, a smile finally appeared on my face.
“Thank you. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to move his on my own…”
Though he’s fast asleep now, he might be on edge because of what happened to me.
To avoid waking his with any noise, Rex and I quietly left the house.
“Even though you’re all beaten up and barely got back on your feet, that kid still comes first for you over yourself.”
Even as he followed me out of the house, Rex wore a look of frustration, his face full of annoyance.
Yet, until we were outside, he kept his voice low and moved carefully, avoiding any noise despite his large frame.
It was cute how he pretended not to care but still showed consideration.
He might seem harsh toward Eunsoo, but his actions were sincere and kind, so I decided to forgive him.
Espers really don’t match their words and actions.
“By the way, how did you know to come here?”
Did news of this incident already spread within the Bureau?
The Bureau was full of people who spread stories quickly, like in the previous news, but I thought they’d keep quiet this time because it involved two prominent families.
And it’s troubling. Maria Polwel’s damn proposal was already giving me a headache, and now the Cha family’s involvement would only add to the stress Cha Junseong must be feeling…
