Picking up the child of a superstar he went to the baby variety show chapter 2

* * *

Just as he was about to explain, the shopkeeper locked the door and left.

Jian Zhile, caught in a dilemma, felt the rain starting to fall more heavily. The early spring wind was blowing, and raindrops were falling on the child’s thin shirt, with the rain intensifying.

The child, crying and clutching his clothes, whimpered, “Daddy…”

Jian Zhile couldn’t bear it. The child was crying so hard that he couldn’t get any information out of him. Seeing the rain getting heavier, he decided they might both catch a cold if they stayed out. The police station was far away too.

Acting on impulse, Jian Zhile asked, “Why don’t you come with me for now? It’s about to rain heavily.”

The child, still crying, nodded and choked out, “Okay, I want to go home with Daddy…”

Jian Zhile found the child’s soft, milky voice both cute and helpless, but he picked him up and said, “Let’s go then!”

Luckily, the tavern was close to his rented apartment.

By the time they reached his old apartment complex, the rain was pouring down. Jian Zhile had already wrapped his coat around the child, and his hair was dripping as he climbed the stairs.

He set the child down in his apartment and checked, “Are you wet?”

The child quickly shook his head, worry in his big eyes as he held Jian Zhile’s clothes and tried to wipe the wet spots with his small hands, as if this could dry them. “Daddy… your clothes are wet…”

Jian Zhile looked at himself and smiled. “I’m fine. I’ll just take a shower. Can you wait in the living room for me?”

The child’s eyes were red, looking anxious, but he obediently said, “Okay.”

Jian Zhile led him to the sofa, intending to say a few words of reassurance.

The child, very well-behaved, sat quietly on the sofa, not crying or making a fuss, his small body looking a bit stiff as if afraid Jian Zhile would abandon him. “Daddy, I’ll be good.”

Jian Zhile’s heart softened. He didn’t know what this child had been through, but he patted his head. “Don’t worry, I’ll be right back after my shower, okay?”

The child nodded, big dark eyes watching him with reluctance.

Jian Zhile, feeling a strange sense of familiarity, thought the child looked a bit like him, especially the eyes. As he went to his bedroom to get clothes, he shivered and snapped out of it.

Ridiculous. How could he have a child when he’d never even had a relationship?

He took a quick shower to wash away the cold and returned to find the child asleep on the sofa.

The room’s light fell gently on the child’s sleeping face, while the rain continued outside.

Jian Zhile gently picked up the child, surprised at how light he was. He softened his tone unconsciously. “You’ll catch a cold here. I’ll take you to bed.”

The child, still half-asleep, mumbled, “Daddy…”

“Sleeping here will make you sick.” The child’s weight was so light that Jian Zhile could barely feel it, which made him relax and speak gently. “I’ll take you to the bed.”

The child nodded obediently.

Jian Zhile carried him to the bedroom.

Since moving to the city, Jian Zhile had lived alone in this rented room. The main bedroom was simple, with just a bed and an old wardrobe, not particularly cozy but clean.

He placed the child on the bed, took off his shoes, and covered him with the quilt.

The child seemed restless even in his sleep, clutching Jian Zhile’s clothes. Jian Zhile hesitated but eventually lay down on the other side. He gently patted the child’s back, and the child, who had been frowning in his sleep, relaxed and fell back into a deep sleep.

Jian Zhile sighed, planning to take the child to the police station to find his parents when the rain stopped tomorrow. He thought about it as he drifted off, exhausted from the day’s work.

Just before falling asleep, in the hazy realm of dreams, Jian Zhile felt an unusual heat and increasing dizziness. He struggled to open his eyes, feeling his forehead with the back of his hand, and his heart sank.

Oh no.

Jian Zhile groaned in his heart. After being caught in the rain, he seemed to have a fever.
