I am not a Yandere chapter 8

* * *

The time Dowon spent trying to gain his grandfather’s approval equaled the years he had lived, but it took less than 30 minutes to quit the company.

After leaving the building, Dowon immediately hailed a taxi.

Having never hailed a taxi in his life, he missed several passing taxis, but after missing the third one, he confidently raised his hand and successfully got into a taxi.

Next time, I should try taking a bus or the subway. Dowon made that resolution in his mind as he headed home.

As he stepped into the entrance, the modern interior of his house, with its black and white wallpaper in harmony, came into view.

The floor was marble, and if the living room curtains were drawn, there was a view of the Han River.

As Dowon wandered around his bleak house, he thought to himself that it looked like the home of an obsessive seme and decided that he would change everything.

Wonjin, who appeared gentle, easygoing, and diligent as Dowon’s former secretary, actually had a secret that no one knew.

That secret was that he was the top member of a community called “Bosses Are the Root of All Illness,” shortened to “Boss Disease.”

Wonjin had posted about Dowon many times on that community, and after frequenting it so much, he had become a well-known member.

While the usual nickname for members in Boss Disease was “Employee,” some people even called him an honorary employee.

[A Crazy Boss Who Suddenly Wants to Open a Chicken Shop] 20xx.09.14

[1000WON: Someone who doesn’t even know how to eat chicken with their hands is talking about opening a chicken restaurant… They must be joking, right? I have no idea why they’re saying this out of the blue, but I really wish they’d just show up to work properly.]

ㄴㅋㅋㅋㅋ Are you talking about that boss you always complain about?

ㄴ1000WON: Yeah, that psycho boss.

Whenever Wonjin was stressed out by Dowon, he would post on that community forum.

After all, Dowon didn’t use any social media, including community forums, so there was no way he would see the posts.

This was Wonjin’s small act of rebellion.

On the day Dowon quit the company, after witnessing him submit his resignation right before his eyes, Wonjin immediately posted on the forum.

[My boss quit the company] 20xx.09.15

[1000WON: Guys, that psycho boss quit the company today, but why the hell did he quit? I really don’t get it.]

ㄴㅋㅋㅋ Maybe he just wanted to quit? Congrats on being free from that weirdo boss!

ㄴ1000WON: He was so obsessed with work, and now he suddenly quits?

ㄴMaybe he had a sudden realization? Or maybe he found something else he wanted to do?

The people replying had no idea that Wonjin’s boss was a director at Seongjin Group, which is why they could say such things.

A sudden realization?

Something else he wanted to do?

He wouldn’t quit Seongjin Group over something like that, would he?

Wonjin couldn’t wrap his head around Dowon’s decision.

And now, just a few days later, Wonjin stood in front of Dowon’s house, letting out a deep sigh.

“Tell that punk Cha Dowon this: The resignation hasn’t been processed yet, so if he comes crawling back now and begs, we’ll consider taking him back.”

Wonjin had tried calling Dowon several times to relay the chairman’s message, but Dowon hadn’t answered.

Even standing in front of his house now, there was no guarantee that Dowon would open the door, but Wonjin swallowed nervously and rang the intercom.

To his surprise, contrary to his expectations of being ignored, Dowon soon opened the door.

“What do you want?”

Seeing Dowon step out, Wonjin flinched in surprise.

“Director Cha? What’s with that outfit…?”

Dowon was wearing an outfit that seemed completely out of character—a pair of cute pajamas adorned with green dinosaur characters.

Before Wonjin could fully process this, Dowon slowly crossed his arms.

“Get to the point and leave quickly.”

“Uh, sorry, but can we talk inside at a slower pace?”

Wonjin glanced around inside the house.

From what he could see from the doorway, the state of the house was shocking.

Wonjin felt a strange sense of unfamiliarity toward the Dowon standing before him.

After a moment of hesitation, Dowon allowed Wonjin into the house, thinking that turning him away at the door was too cliche for a yandere.

Wonjin slowly looked around after entering Dowon’s home.

The usually tidy and quiet space was now noisy with the sound of an animated cartoon, and the walls were plastered with Pororo stickers.

The sofa was a deep pink, and the white curtains on the large glass windows were frilled.

‘What is this? Am I dreaming?

Not knowing where to look, Wonjin focused on the back of Dowon’s head as he followed him.

“So, what’s your business?”

Dowon stopped in front of the dining table and began grinding ice with a shaved ice machine.

Wonjin wondered why on earth he had bought such a thing but kept his curiosity in check as he calmly asked.

“Director, you like shaved ice?”

“I tried it for the first time, and it wasn’t bad.”

Dowon was making shaved ice with ice frozen from Avian water he had stored in the refrigerator.

Surely, no other yandere like this existed in the world.

He couldn’t help but wonder how this scene would be described in a novel.

Dowon drizzled chocolate syrup over the finely shaved ice, even shaping it into a star.

When he handed the well-made shaved ice to Wonjin, he accepted it in a daze.

“Here, sit and eat.”

“Thank… you.”

Wonjin sat down where Dowon gestured with a nod. Dowon even handed him a teaspoon.

Even this is a Pororo teaspoon…

Wonjin glared at the winking penguin on the spoon with a deadpan expression.

“So, why are you here?”

“Ah, before that, here.”

Wonjin reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a car key. It was Dowon’s car key.

“I think I gave that to you, didn’t I?”

“I can’t accept something like this; it’s too much. The car is parked in the garage…”

“If you don’t need it, just throw it away. You’ve gone to unnecessary trouble.”

As Dowon cut Wonjin off and clicked his tongue in annoyance, a strange thought crossed Wonjin’s mind.

Quit his director position, say he doesn’t need his car, and engage in incomprehensible antics—could it be that this person…

Wonjin shook his head and changed the subject before he could finish the thought. It was too absurd a notion.

There was no way Cha Dowon, who lacked for nothing, would do something like that.

“The atmosphere of the house has changed a lot. It didn’t used to be like this.”

“Thanks for noticing. So, what’s your business?”

No matter what Wonjin said, Dowon consistently asked about the purpose of his visit.

Wonjin clenched his hands resting on his lap and opened his heavy mouth.

“The chairman said he would forgive you if you came back now.”

Hearing that, Dowon burst out laughing.

He was the one who submitted the resignation, so why would they be offering him leniency?

That man had always been absurdly arrogant.

“Tell that old man that if he gets on his knees and begs in front of me, I might consider coming back.”

“Director Cha… You’re calling the chairman an old man?”

“Director Cha? You must have forgotten that I’m no longer a director. So if that’s all you came for, I’d like you to leave. I hope we don’t meet like this again.”

Dowon motioned for Wonjin to leave. Seeing how firm Dowon was, Wonjin realized that continuing the conversation would be pointless, so he got up from his seat.

“Then I’ll let the chairman know that you’re not planning to return to the company.”

“Understood.”

Having delivered his message, Wonjin walked toward the front door.

He intended to return to the company, but for some reason, he couldn’t bring himself to leave.

Negative assumptions about why Dowon was acting so strangely kept running through his mind.

Feeling uneasy about leaving things as they were, Wonjin decided to ask Dowon directly.

“Director Cha, I don’t mean to be rude, but… are you thinking of doing something bad…?”

Just then, there was a loud crashing sound.

Startled, Wonjin hurried toward the source of the noise.

“Director Cha, what’s going on…?”
