Soon, Henry was so absorbed in the task that he forgot Edwin’s lingering gaze.
“There,” he muttered to himself.
Once he felt the clasp had fastened correctly, a satisfied smirk tugged at Henry’s lips.
Only then did he realize he had unconsciously moved closer to Edwin, and he instinctively began to pull back.
He would have stepped away entirely if Edwin hadn’t pulled him into an embrace.
When Edwin’s hand wrapped around his waist, their chests brushed against each other as Henry’s upper body leaned back slightly.
Startled by the impulsive hold, Henry quickly pushed against Edwin’s arm.
“It’s rude to just hug someone without their permission.”
But even as Henry told him to let go, Edwin only responded with a quiet chuckle, refusing to release him.
Instead, he rested his face on Henry’s shoulder.
All Henry had done was fasten a necklace for him, but here he was, wrapped in Edwin’s arms.
Henry sighed, looking up at the ceiling.
“Just because we kissed yesterday doesn’t mean we’re at the ‘hugging’ stage.”
“I thought you’d pretend yesterday didn’t happen…” Edwin’s soft reply indicated he was aware of Henry’s thoughts on the matter.
Maybe that’s why he’d kept glancing at him all day.
Finally, Henry decided it was time to say what was on his mind.
“If I could, I wouldn’t just pretend. I’d want to forget it altogether.”
“Why?” Edwin asked.
“Because every time I look at you, I’m reminded of it,” Henry replied, struggling with the emotions that kept surfacing.
Edwin let out a breathy laugh, his warm exhale tickling Henry’s neck, hitting right where his pheromones were strongest.
“I felt the same.”
“…”
“Every time I looked at you, I kept recalling yesterday. Thanks to that, I didn’t hear a word of Count Ariat’s lecture.”
Henry had assumed he was the only one affected by the kiss, but knowing Edwin had also been distracted and unable to focus in class made him want to laugh.
“What’s this… It’s like we’re drawn to each other,” he thought to himself, though the realization made him freeze.
“Drawn to Edwin? That’s ridiculous.”
There was no way.
He and Edwin couldn’t possibly become anything close…
“You really should give up on that pheromone stone,” Edwin said, jolting him out of his thoughts, making Henry scowl.
“Why are you suddenly bringing that up?”
When Edwin said he couldn’t hand over the pheromone stone, Henry looked at him irritably.
Just moments ago, a hazy aura of pheromones had surrounded them, but now it had silently dispersed, replaced by a prickling tension.
With both of their pheromones filling the space, they could sense each other’s feelings without words.
Henry’s pheromones bristled with annoyance, which made Edwin glance away briefly.
Seeing Edwin’s reaction, Henry intensified his own pheromones to make his displeasure clear.
Slowly, Edwin’s gaze drifted back to him, noticing Henry’s twitching cheek and pursed lips.
Despite himself, Edwin chuckled softly.
Realizing this, Henry raised an eyebrow.
“What’s wrong now? Why won’t you give me the pheromone stone?”
“If I give it to you, you’ll try to break our imprint.”
Henry scoffed. It seemed so obvious.
“So you want to keep this imprint? Edwin, what’s gotten into you?”
Henry sighed, feeling as though he was talking to a stubborn child, having to repeat himself over and over.
It was starting to tire him out, but Edwin still didn’t seem to grasp his point.
“I think it would be fine to keep it,” Edwin replied, his nonchalant tone flipping Henry’s mood upside down.
Moments ago, he had been irritated by Edwin’s childish refusal, but now, his expression darkened.
“You…”
Henry clenched his jaw, momentarily holding back, fearing he might lash out at Edwin.
Keeping the imprint and refusing to give him the pheromone stone—it infuriated him.
His face flushed with heat from the anger.
Raising a hand to cool his forehead, he finally muttered through clenched lips, “This isn’t something you can take so lightly.”
Why did he go on that journey in the first place?
And it wasn’t long after he’d ended up in Henry’s body.
Adjusting to this world was challenging enough, and yet he took that risk because his life depended on breaking the imprint.
But Edwin seemed to think it was all just some casual game.
Henry’s frustration sank further and further.
When anger reaches its peak, expression often fades, and with a blank face, he pushed Edwin’s arm away.
“I need that pheromone stone.”
Henry’s sunken tone left Edwin visibly unsettled.
“You already know, don’t you? This half-imprint is good for neither of us.”
Edwin would be scorned by the world, while Henry would wither from unreciprocated affection.
For either of them to be happy, they needed the pheromone stone to break the imprint.
Henry lowered his head.
He hadn’t chosen this imprint, nor asked to become Henry, yet he’d been dealing with everything that came with it.
Surviving meant breaking the imprint, so he clung to that hope.
But now it felt as if Edwin had taken that hope and held it hostage.
“Do you really think it’s fine to keep this imprint, where we’re driven solely by each other’s pheromones, constantly inflamed?”
Seeing Henry’s reaction, Edwin tried to read his pheromones, but Henry had completely concealed them.
Deprived of that one way to gauge Henry’s emotions, Edwin turned his gaze back to him.
“Do you… like me?”
Lifting his head, Henry met Edwin’s gaze, and Edwin’s eyes narrowed at the expression revealed on his face.
“Do you think our imprint is normal?”
The foundation of a imprint should be mutual desire.
But for them, everything had been reversed.
Edwin remained silent, listening to Henry’s insistence that everything was wrong.
“Let’s undo this entirely. You go back to being a typical extreme-dominant Alpha, and I’ll… just be an Omega.”
Henry spoke earnestly.
Once the imprint was broken, he would openly embrace his status as an Omega and live that life accordingly.
Seeing the intensity in Henry’s eyes, Edwin grew serious and thoughtful.
“Henry, we’re not abnormal.”
At Edwin’s unguarded comment, Henry didn’t respond right away.
“I manifested normally, and you’re my omega.”
“…”
Henry was momentarily lost for words, his lips opening and closing as he searched for a response. ‘You’re my omega.’
Just those words, and yet they seemed to silence him, robbing him of the voice he had just been using so confidently.
“If wanting to keep our imprint means I like you, then yes. I want you. I like you.”
“Edwin…”
Henry barely managed to respond, but Edwin cut him off mercilessly.
“I’d prefer if you were mine.”
Henry’s face registered shock at Edwin’s remark, which almost seemed like a confession disguised as a condition for keeping their imprint.
“Can you understand it if I say I’d rather feel your pheromones than worry about not being a complete half-breed? Just being able to sense your pheromones makes everything else insignificant.”
As Edwin continued, Henry’s gaze wavered with uncertainty.
“For now, I just want to be the only one who feels your pheromones. If this possessiveness is truly rooted in how much I care for you, then yes, Henry, I like you.”
“Edwin…”
“I like you. So keep this imprint with me.”
The deep, sinking feeling within Edwin was gone, replaced now by confusion that clouded his entire mind.
The confession sounded sweet, almost alluring, but why did the words that followed feel more like a threat?
“…I need time to think.”
Henry’s answer neither accepted nor rejected Edwin’s feelings, avoiding his full attention yet not turning away from them either.
He didn’t even have the heart to question why there were conditions attached to the confession.
All he knew was that he needed time to sort out his own tangled emotions.
Seeing the conflicted look in Henry’s eyes, Edwin took a step back, opening the door to give Henry a way out.
It was a gesture of kindness meant to respect Henry’s space, yet oddly, Henry felt as if he was fleeing as he left through that door.
Pretending not to notice Edwin’s silent consent to let him go, Henry quickly made his way outside.
