“Actually, it was me who informed you of the location where Young Master was.”
Hook’s words put a piece of the puzzle together in Henry’s mind. He began to understand why the situation had unfolded differently from the novel.
Originally, when Kayla fell, it was a sudden accident, and the escort knights could not find him.
Kayla had managed to emerge from the cave on his own, while in this case, the wall had been breached from the outside.
Henry wondered how it was discovered. If Hook had mentioned what he knew through his commission, it could have been a clue.
“Still, finding that place is impressive.”
“It wasn’t that difficult.”
Henry had forgotten to ask Hook for a detailed map of the mountain range. He only knew the general location and was contemplating alternative ways to meet Kayla.
But Hook seemed to have inferred what Henry wanted from his commission and guessed the approximate terrain of the mountain range.
This accurate guess was why Hook was able to save Henry and Edwin.
“Thank you for your help.”
“Um… won’t you be angry with me?”
“Why?”
“I wasn’t able to keep the secret with the client.”
Since Hook had found the location through the details of the commission, he had anticipated that Henry would not react positively.
Thus, before receiving any criticism, Hook emphasized that his role in saving Henry was somewhat helpful.
Henry didn’t seem upset, leaving Hook somewhat bewildered.
Seeing Hook’s reaction, Henry thought about something else.
“I should have made a different request from the beginning.”
Instead of just finding Kayla, he should have asked Hook to accompany him until the end.
“That’s fine. I’m actually grateful for your help. It was a dangerous situation in many ways.”
Just escaping the moment when Edwin almost discovered the mark made everything else inconsequential.
“Thank you for thinking that way.”
Hook replied with a calm smile, but soon his expression hardened, and he spoke in a lower voice than before.
“Young Master.”
Noticing the seriousness in Hook’s voice, Henry wiped away his smile and looked at him.
“I’ve been working on your requests with ulterior motives until now, but you know I’ve still done my best, right?”
“If you suddenly confess like that, you know it’ll shock the person, right? Are you directly saying that you have ulterior motives towards me?”
Henry leaned slightly backward, playfully reacting to Hook’s serious remark. He was well aware that Hook had ulterior motives.
Of course, this didn’t mean romantic feelings for him but rather seeing it as a stepping stone for his revenge.
“What I’m emphasizing is ‘I did my best.’”
“So, you did your best because you had ulterior motives towards me.”
“I absolutely don’t like you.”
Despite Henry’s continued teasing, Hook remained serious.
“I did my best with your request, so please help me just once in the future.”
At Hook’s significant request, the smile on Henry’s face completely disappeared. He recalled Hook’s cautious behavior.
Even while talking to him, Hook had been glancing around and had shown less ease than usual.
What could have happened to him?
The mirror in the room reflected Henry’s perfectly refreshed face.
After drying his wet hair with a towel, Henry stood in front of the mirror, examining his face from various angles.
Having soaked in warm water for a long time, his face was flushed red, and he seemed to be enjoying it, with a gentle smile at the corners of his mouth.
“This is happiness.”
After washing up, he felt like there was nothing to envy in the world.
Even though it was just for a day, being covered in dust and feeling grimy had a significant impact.
Even though he had skipped a meal for the day, the first thing that came to mind upon arrival was the desire to bathe.
“Master.”
“Come in.”
Sitting on the bed and drying his hair, Henry looked towards the door.
When Sir Teher entered with a portable tray and met Henry’s gaze, he quickly approached.
“I’ll dry your hair for you.”
“No. I prefer to do it myself.”
Henry had deliberately sent away the servants and was doing it himself, so he wasn’t pleased with Sir Teher’s service.
Upon Henry’s gentle refusal, Sir Teher quickly agreed and placed the tray on the bedside table.
“It’s a simple stew that you can eat easily. It’s better to eat something light rather than skipping a meal.”
Henry got up from the bed and approached the bedside table.
Despite being covered with a dome plate, a delicious smell wafted from it.
He hadn’t thought much about it earlier, but now that his desire to bathe was fulfilled, his appetite had increased.
“I also brought some ointment for any wounds.”
As Henry was touching his sunken stomach, Sir Teher presented a small box.
He then opened the lid for him.
Henry peeked inside and saw not just ointment but also various other supplies neatly arranged.
“Why does it feel like I’ve hired a nurse instead of a bodyguard?”
Sir Teher’s care didn’t seem like that of a mere bodyguard, making Henry smile.
Henry decided to sit at the bedside table and opened the plate to see the stew along with some madeleines.
“I’m sorry for not being able to protect you.”
At Sir Teher’s heavy apology, Henry looked up. Sir Teher’s face, which hadn’t been visible before, was now clear as he sat down and lowered his posture.
Although Sir Teher’s nature was usually serious and calm, today he seemed particularly subdued, and now Henry understood why.
“I’m fine. It was an accident, and even if I had died, no one would have blamed you.”
Henry waved his hands in refusal, not accepting Sir Teher’s apology. The incident was entirely the result of his own impulse.
Even though Sir Teher was his own bodyguard, he couldn’t know all of Henry’s thoughts, so it wasn’t Sir Teher’s fault.
In fact, it was Edwin, who had leapt to save him at that moment, who was out of his mind.
“I will definitely protect you next time…”
Henry was about to respond with a reassuring “it’s alright,” but he changed his mind halfway through.
“Then, please make sure to protect me next time.”
If his response could lighten Sir Teher’s heart even a little, it was worth saying.
“You are my bodyguard, so please protect me.”
Even after Sir Teher left with a bow, Henry hesitated to touch his food.
Sir Teher’s expression remained in his mind.
“Oh, I was going to die because of me anyway.”
Sir Teher was someone who didn’t need to feel guilty. His steadfast nature did not judge the villainous master with the same standards as others.
Even if others called him a villain, he was someone worth protecting.
Henry liked that nature so much that he took him on as his bodyguard again. But this time, he had done something quite unpleasant to Sir Teher.
It might sound trivial to consider a bodyguard’s feelings, but for Henry, he was more than just a bodyguard.
He was the only one who had stood by him and risked his life, so he could never take him lightly.
“I need to be more careful next time.”
That way, Sir Teher won’t feel guilty again. Henry shrugged and picked up the box. He was moving it aside to make space for the stew before bringing it to him.
However, once Henry had the box in his hands, he found himself unable to put it down and stared at it blankly.
There was another person who needed the ointment besides himself.
“Edwin.”
He might have already treated his wounds, but it still bothered him.
Henry fiddled with the box, trying to recall where Edwin’s room was.
“Oh, I don’t know.”
He mostly visited Henry, so he hadn’t thought about which room he was staying in.
How should he find him?
Henry frowned suddenly.
“Why did I think of going there personally when I could have just sent it?”
He muttered to himself, realizing he hadn’t fully adjusted to his new life yet.
In reality, he wanted to see Edwin directly and apply the ointment to his wounds.
“This is all because I’m grateful.”
Henry murmured, feeling awkward as if there were other meanings behind his desire to visit Edwin and check his wounds.
“There’s no other meaning. If Edwin starts babbling nonsense, I’ll just shut him down coldly.”
If he starts talking nonsense about why Henry brought the ointment, he should be told exactly that.
