I am not a Yandere chapter 54

* * *

Seeing Yeongdeok show interest, Dalsu eagerly promoted the benefits of attending.

“Of course! What’s so special about a group meeting? Even if you don’t find a girlfriend, you can still meet people.”

“Hey, Cha Yeongdeok. What are you doing talking about meetings? Don’t do something that doesn’t suit you.”

Unlike the excited Dalsu, Jihoon’s face twisted in disgust.

Although Jihoon’s voice was trying to dissuade him, it was clear Yeongdeok wasn’t about to listen.

“Fine.”

“Sir! Wow, you’re not only handsome, but also so broad-minded. You’re the best.”

Overwhelmed by Yeongdeok’s casual agreement, Dalsu raised both his thumbs in admiration.

Jihoon, watching this, couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Why are you even going? It’s obvious you’d hate a place like that. And besides, you… like someone else…”

But Jihoon’s words trailed off.

“I’m going to make friends.”

“What? Friends?”

“Didn’t you once tell me I should try making other friends? What’s the problem?”

Jihoon was momentarily at a loss for words.

At first, his head buzzed as if he’d been struck with a realization, but that feeling quickly turned into disbelief.

Well, of course…

“Seriously? Since when have you ever listened to me?”

While Jihoon was fuming, Dalsu handed his phone to Yeongdeok.

“Can you give me your number? Oh, and your age too. I called you ‘sir,’ but what if you’re younger than me?”

“Twenty-eight. I’m twenty-eight.”

“For a second, I thought you were swearing! But it turns out you really are older than me. Thank goodness.”

As Yeongdeok entered his number into Dalsu’s phone, he sensed an intense gaze on him.

He turned his head to see Jihoon glaring at him with a sulky expression.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“It’s nothing.”

“I see.”

Yeongdeok, satisfied with Jihoon’s response, returned his focus to the phone.

After finishing inputting his number, he handed the phone back to Dalsu, who then dialed Yeongdeok’s number and said:

“The number I just called you from is mine. Oh, and I’ll add you to the group chat for the meeting.”

“Hey, Cha Yeongdeok. Are you serious? You’re really going to the meeting?”

Jihoon asked as if urging Yeongdeok to reconsider, but Yeongdeok’s indifferent reply showed no change.

“Yes.”

“Man, Yeongdeok really knows what’s up! Let’s have fun and forget about that fraud over there.”

Dalsu, overly enthusiastic, wrapped his arms around Yeongdeok.

Annoyed by Dalsu’s lack of manners, Yeongdeok’s eyes narrowed.

Like brushing off an insect, Yeongdeok swiftly pushed Dalsu away and dusted off his arm.

“You keep calling me ‘sir,’ but I’ve never had a younger brother as crude as you. And I’d appreciate it if you didn’t cling to me. It’s disrespectful.”

A cold tension filled the room after Yeongdeok’s sharp remark.

As Dalsu’s face twisted in awkwardness, Jihoon, for the first time, silently praised Yeongdeok’s bluntness.

Dalsu clearly hoped Yeongdeok would take back his words, but what Jihoon wanted didn’t happen—Dalsu’s personality was too good for that.

“Oh, right. I’m sorry for grabbing you.”

Dalsu awkwardly smiled and bowed his head in apology.

Watching this, Jihoon rubbed his forehead in frustration.

“Damn it… Hey, that’s it. I’m going too.”

“What?”

“I said, I’m going to that meeting or whatever.”

“Don’t you have a lover?”

“What’s with the constant lover talk? I said I don’t.”

Dalsu, momentarily stunned, soon broke into a grin so wide it looked like his mouth might split.

“You loyal son of a… I’m touched, man!”

“Shut up. It’s not like I really want to go.”

“Then why’d you agree?”

Jihoon’s grumpy gaze was fixed on Yeongdeok.

Why did he agree?

Well, obviously…

“You don’t know Cha Yeongdeok like I do. I’m just worried something might happen.”

“I’d appreciate it if you didn’t treat me like a child left alone by the river.”

“If you’re going to say that, why don’t you start acting like an adult for once? You’re always doing something strange. I don’t trust you to go alone.”

Despite Yeongdeok’s obvious displeasure, Jihoon’s stance didn’t change.

“I don’t really get it, but thanks for filling the numbers. Both you and Yeongdeok.”

“And again with the ‘sir’…”

Yeongdeok sighed at Dalsu’s lack of comprehension.

Just then, a bubbly girl group song filled the living room.

Both Yeongdeok and Jihoon immediately recognized the ringtone’s owner without needing a hint.

Dalsu checked his phone and quickly answered.

“Hello? What? Kang Inseong broke up with his girlfriend?”

Murmuring short replies, Dalsu quickly ended the call.

“Jihoon, Kang Inseong just broke up with his girlfriend, so I gotta go.”

“Why were you even here in the first place?”

“I told you, I was here to check in on you. But, are you sure you don’t have a lover?”

“Would I be going to a meeting if I did? Get out.”

With Jihoon practically pushing him out, Dalsu hastily slipped on his shoes.

Just before leaving, he glanced back at Yeongdeok.

“See you soon, sir.”

Dalsu finally left, still calling Yeongdeok “sir” until the end, and closed the door behind him.

The house fell silent in an instant, and Yeongdeok felt oddly exhausted, as though a storm had just passed.

Sensing this, Jihoon apologized.

“Sorry. Was it too much? That guy’s the noisiest out of our group.”

“You two seem pretty similar.”

“Hey, what’s that supposed to mean?”

Jihoon hadn’t fully heard Yeongdeok’s reply, but he already had a feeling he wouldn’t like it.

“Just that you’re both loud and impolite.”

“Shut up?”

That’s exactly what Jihoon figured he’d say.

Huffing in frustration, Jihoon collapsed onto the sofa, exhausted from Dalsu’s surprise visit.

As the ticking of the clock became the only sound in the quiet room, Yeongdeok picked up the recorder he’d been practicing and began to play again, blowing from low C to high C.

Sprawled on the sofa, Jihoon asked with half-closed eyes:

“What’s with the sudden interest in making friends?”

“It’s not sudden. I’ve been thinking about it for a while.”

“You used to say friends were useless. And in a place like that, it’ll be hard to find people who match your level.”

Moreover, there probably aren’t many people who would put up with Cha Yeongdeok’s awful personality.

Just imagining a meeting with Yeongdeok already made Jihoon feel exhausted.

What kind of bizarre behavior would that guy pull this time to mess with my mind?

“I need it.”

“Didn’t you say it was useless last time?”

“It’s useless, but necessary.”

“What are you even talking about?”

The words “useless” and “necessary” were completely opposite in meaning and didn’t align.

Jihoon wondered if the guy had eaten something weird, but Yeongdeok looked perfectly normal.

Yeongdeok didn’t need friends, but to ruin the “obsessive man” trope, they were necessary.

Yeongdeok brought the recorder back to his lips.

Can a recorder even make that kind of sound?

A sorrowful melody spread in all directions, so moving it made Jihoon mutter quietly.

“Why do I feel so gross?”

Yeongdeok, unable to hear Jihoon’s words over the sound of the recorder, paused and asked.

“What did you just say?”

Jihoon leaned back against the sofa, looking at Yeongdeok.

Their eyes met at close range, and Jihoon, feeling oddly unsettled, quickly averted his gaze.

“Nothing.”

“How dull.”

With that, Yeongdeok returned his focus to playing the recorder.

Jihoon, listening to the sound, was lost in thought.

He didn’t like the idea of the meeting, or anything about it, but…

Jihoon decided it would be better for Yeongdeok to meet someone else rather than clinging to the hopeless Eungyeol.

“You said you wanted to make friends, right?”

Yeongdeok, still playing the squeaky recorder, looked at Jihoon with a serious expression.

“Then listen to what the other person is saying and respond accordingly. If you just do that much, it won’t be that hard.”

Yeongdeok tilted his head, still squeaking on the recorder.

Frustrated by Yeongdeok’s obvious inattention, Jihoon swiftly snatched the recorder from him.

“Did you understand what I just said?”

“Why should I do that?”

“Ah, damn, my neck all of a sudden…”

Jihoon grabbed his stiffening neck. Does this guy really want to make friends?
