Jihoon, sensing the oddity of the situation, placed his hand on Yeongdeok’s forehead.
Yeongdeok’s head tilted slightly at the familiar touch.
“Why are you checking my temperature?”
“Are you feeling sick? Should we go to the hospital?”
Jihoon then grabbed Yeongdeok’s chin and turned his head back and forth, inspecting him.
He must have grabbed him pretty firmly because Yeongdeok pulled away, feeling a dull ache.
“I don’t know why everyone keeps treating me like a patient.”
Yeongdeok straightened his lips, which had been threatening to droop into a frown.
He needed to smile somehow, especially with Eungyeol sitting across from him.
Seeing Jihoon and Yeongdeok bantering without hesitation, Seonwoo’s expression stiffened for a moment, but he quickly stepped in to gather the orders.
“So, Mr. Cha Yeongdeok wants the kids’ meal. What about you, Jihoon and Eungyeol?”
“I’ll have the chicken curry cream pasta,” Jihoon replied.
“I’ll go with the aglio e olio,” Eungyeol followed.
Seonwoo called over the server to place the order.
“One pork steak, a chicken curry cream pasta, aglio e olio, and…”
He glanced at Yeongdeok with a smile. “One kids’ meal.”
The server, noticing the four well-dressed men at the table and no children, hesitated. “The kids’ meal?”
“Yes, this gentleman insisted on it,” Seonwoo said, gesturing toward Yeongdeok.
The server glanced at Yeongdeok awkwardly before confirming the order and heading back to the kitchen.
As soon as the server left, Jihoon turned to Seonwoo. “Weren’t you going to get pasta?”
“I thought about it,” Seonwoo replied with a bright smile. “But I never said I was definitely getting it.”
Jihoon turned away, feeling an inexplicable chill from Seonwoo’s carefree demeanor.
“Cha Yeongdeok, are you really fine with the kids’ meal?” Jihoon asked.
“No problem at all,” Yeongdeok responded confidently.
An awkward silence returned.
They all distracted themselves by checking their phones until the food arrived.
“Who ordered the aglio e olio?” the server asked as the dishes were brought out one by one.
Eungyeol let out a soft gasp at the sight of Seonwoo’s pork steak.
“Wow, that steak looks delicious,” Eungyeol remarked.
“Would you like to try a bite?” Seonwoo offered.
“Oh, just a little bit then. I’ll give you some of mine too,” Eungyeol said.
Seonwoo cut a piece of steak and held it out toward Eungyeol.
Feeling embarrassed at the gesture, Eungyeol waved his hands in refusal, but Seonwoo insisted, only tilting the fork toward him.
“Come on, just take it,” Seonwoo coaxed.
“Just put it on my plate. I’ll eat it myself,” Eungyeol said nervously.
“Aww, my arm hurts,” Seonwoo replied playfully.
Yeongdeok watched the scene, his expression blank.
At that moment, Seonwoo shot him a provoking look.
Instantly, Yeongdeok stood up and reached out toward Seonwoo.
For a second, Seonwoo thought Yeongdeok might grab him by the collar, but instead, he took the fork with the steak on it.
“Yeah, it does look good,” Yeongdeok said.
What happened next was so absurd that no one would believe it even if they were told: Yeongdeok ate the steak.
Jihoon, stunned by the sight, mumbled under his breath, “What the hell…?”
Seonwoo stared in disbelief at his empty hand.
Meanwhile, Yeongdeok, showing no sign of feeling awkward, returned the fork to Seonwoo with a nonchalant, “Tasty.”
“W-what was that just now?” Seonwoo stammered, clearly rattled.
In the midst of everyone’s shock, Yeongdeok, seemingly inspired by Seonwoo’s previous gesture, sliced a small steak from his kids’ meal and offered it to Jihoon.
This was something no obsessive character would ever do.
“Eat it.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Jihoon scowled, his face twitching at the sight of Yeongdeok practically forcing the fork toward his mouth.
His expression was sharp, but his face was oddly flushed.
“Aren’t you curious how it tastes?”
“No, I’m fine…”
Ignoring Jihoon’s protests, Yeongdeok pressed the fork against his lips.
“Damn it, stop! It hurts!” Jihoon groaned, feeling as though he were being stabbed by a trident.
In the end, he had no choice but to chew the food.
He couldn’t help but feel like he tasted blood in the process, though he hoped it was just his imagination.
“How is it? Good?” Yeongdeok asked.
“I don’t know… Here, you take this,” Jihoon muttered, stabbing a piece of boneless chicken from his plate and tossing it onto Yeongdeok’s.
Yeongdeok inspected the piece of chicken before swallowing it whole.
The rich flavor of Indian curry combined with the chicken’s juicy texture made for an overwhelming taste experience.
Yeongdeok thought to himself that making this type of chicken might not be a bad idea.
While everyone else focused on their meals, Seonwoo couldn’t.
After witnessing Jihoon and Yeongdeok casually sharing their food, his appetite vanished completely.
He cast a gloomy glance at his uneaten steak and then glared at Yeongdeok.
His plan to rile up Cha Yeongdeok using Eungyeol had backfired, and now he felt like the one who had been provoked.
Across from him, Yeongdeok was tearing apart the cute, bear-shaped bread from his kids’ meal.
Noticing the intense gaze from across the table, Yeongdeok looked up.
Seonwoo was staring at him, his meal untouched.
“Why are you staring at me? Aren’t you going to eat?” Yeongdeok asked with forced cheerfulness.
“You go ahead and eat, Mr. Cha Yeongdeok. I’m already full.”
Yeongdeok found it odd that Seonwoo was already full, but it wasn’t his concern whether Seonwoo was hungry or not.
He bit into the bear’s ear, the chocolatey sweetness melting in his mouth.
“It’s sweet.”
“Not good?” Jihoon asked.
“Uh…” Yeongdeok frowned slightly and bit the other ear.
Jihoon, watching Yeongdeok chew and contemplate the taste, smiled involuntarily.
The smile softened his usually sharp features, and when Eungyeol caught sight of it, he blinked in surprise, pausing his pasta twirling.
As the plates gradually emptied, Seonwoo finally spoke up. “Looks like we’re wrapping up the meal. Where should we head for round two?”
“Aren’t we just parting ways after eating?” Jihoon asked.
“Seems a shame to end it here,” Seonwoo said smoothly, glancing at Jihoon with a sly grin.
Jihoon, already irked by Seonwoo’s subtle provocations, felt even more annoyed but tried to brush it off.
“What about a board game café?”
Surprisingly, the first person to give an opinion was Eungyeol.
Although Jihoon found it strange that Eungyeol, instead of feeling uncomfortable, took the lead in continuing the conversation, Seonwoo agreed enthusiastically.
“Yeah, let’s go to the board game café. Sounds fun!”
“What’s a board game café?”
The only thing Yeongdeok could think of that sounded similar was vodka.
He was even picturing a bottle of liquor in his mind, but Jihoon’s explanation shattered that image instantly.
“It’s short for board game café.”
“People shorten everything these days. But what exactly is a board game café?”
Even after Jihoon answered, Yeongdeok continued with more questions.
Jihoon felt a sense of déjà vu.
What is this feeling?
He tried to shake off the strange sensation of floating in the middle of a vast universe and answered as firmly as he could.
“Remember when we played that dice game at my place? It’s a place where you can play games like that.”
“Of course, you wouldn’t know. It’s not really your scene,” Eungyeol remarked, almost as if teasing Yeongdeok.
His mind, preoccupied with both PetitRolang and his readers, suddenly fixated on Seonwoo’s comment.
“Not my scene?” Well then, that means I should go.
“Really? Then let’s go.”
“I… I really don’t get what’s going on with either of you,” Jihoon muttered, letting out a deep, frustrated sigh.
“So, it’s settled. Eungyeol, do you know any board game cafés around here?”
“Hold on, let me check.”
Eungyeol glanced curiously at Yeongdeok before quickly tapping away on his phone.
