Park Hyunsoo, now called Lee Jaehee, lowered his eyes.

‘Damn it.’

That was his only thought. How much did they hear from the shaman?

A shaman who discloses everything to their clients?

They must be a scammer with no professional ethics.

‘I should have been suspicious of their flashy outfit and obvious “I’m a shaman” vibe. Now they stab me in the back?’

Hyunsoo had always mocked people who fell for online scams. But now that he was the fool, he felt furious.

‘How do I handle this?’

As Hyunsoo was busy thinking of a way out, Jaehee’s anxious family pressed him for an answer.

“Huh? Jaehee. Say something.”

He needed to know how much they knew to come up with an excuse.

“What did the shaman say?”

“They said you’re actually someone named Park Hyunsoo who died recently, but when you came to, you found yourself in this body. And because you hate it so much, you asked for an exorcism. Is that true?”

‘That scamming quack really spilled everything.’

The money he spent on the shaman felt wasted. Even though it wasn’t his own. He had to think of an excuse, but what could he say to people who knew everything?

Denying or admitting it would both cause problems. Close monitoring would inevitably follow.

‘Pretending to be Jaehee isn’t going to work anymore.’

Being called by another’s name brought cognitive dissonance and increased guilt.

If Jaehee had been an orphan or a problematic child, it might have been different, but he was clearly a cherished youngest son of a wealthy family.

Eventually, Hyunsoo frowned and sat on a chair at the dining table.

“Jaehee. Please….”

Jaehee’s family turned pale at his sudden confession. Hyunsoo decided to push harder, thinking this wasn’t going anywhere.

“It must be hard for you to believe, but it’s also tough for me to keep pretending to be Jaehee. It’s against my conscience.

Honestly, I thought I could rest in peace after dying, but this is a nightmare.”

“Jaehee. Calm down and listen to your dad. You’re confused because you lost your memory due to the shock. Before going to the center, you used to research this stuff a lot….”

‘They still think I’m a lunatic. I get that it’s hard to believe, but can’t they at least check the facts?’

Hyunsoo sighed deeply.

“Instead of just talking, let me meet the Espers I used to handle. It’ll be faster to get their confirmation. It’s worth a try, right? What do you think?”

Jaehee’s family looked at him with pale faces, then lowered their heads.

“What on earth is going on?”

“Why don’t you try giving me a chance? It’s not that hard to arrange a meeting with them.”

His persistence was relentless. Jaehee’s family remained silent, deep in thought. Jaeyoon broke the silence.

“So, you want to prove you’re Park Hyunsoo to them?”

“I don’t like using them, but no matter how much I insist, you won’t believe me. You’ll probably think I’m showing symptoms of mental confusion and consider sending me back to the hospital.”

Hyunsoo sighed deeply as he looked at Jaehee’s family, who had fallen silent once again. He understood how they felt.

Who would want to believe that a ghost had possessed their beloved family member?

However, Hyunsoo had no intention of hiding everything and pretending to be Jaehee to enjoy what he had.

As Hyunsoo continued to speak gently, Jaehee’s family wavered.

“That’s…”

“I’m not some evil ghost. If I had planned to take over Jaehee’s body and pretend to be him, I would have done it properly. Why would I confess everything in the hospital? I really want to get out of this body.”

Hyunsoo’s words, driving the point home, left Jaehee’s family speechless for a long time.

Tension filled the dining room during the uncomfortable silence.

Eventually, Jaehee’s family, stepping back, agreed to meet with Hyunsoo’s team of Espers.

From the fact that they didn’t immediately call a shaman, it seemed they wanted to believe Jaehee was suffering from a mental breakdown.

“If I prove that I’m Park Hyunsoo, will you help me get exorcised?”

Jaehee’s family didn’t answer. Hyunsoo decided to take their silence as a yes.

“Oh, I can’t wait to meet the kids.”

At Hyunsoo’s words, Jaehee’s family closed their eyes tightly, unable to contain their despair.

Central Center Special D Team, shortened to D Team, was the top attack team handling monsters at the forefront of all centers.

Composed entirely of S-class Espers, they had recently lost their mental pillar, their dedicated guide, Park Hyunsoo.

New guides had joined the team to replace him, but for some reason, none lasted more than two weeks before transferring to other teams.

The sudden death of an original member and frequent personnel changes left Special D Team in a state of turmoil.

Before they could overcome their grief, they were swamped with missions, making them highly sensitive. Being summoned to an inexplicable meeting only added to their irritation.

“Damn it. Who do they think they are, ordering us around?”

“Chan hyung, please stop swearing.”

Despite occasionally receiving guidance since Park Hyunsoo’s death, the team’s condition wasn’t good due to psychological reasons. It was too soon to accept the farewell to a guide with whom they had built a deep bond over a long time.

“If this meeting turns out to be nothing important, I’ll set the place on fire. I swear.”

With that declaration, Jung Minchan threw open the conference room door.

Inside were a young, delicate-looking man, a man who seemed to be his older brother, and a middle-aged couple, all sitting in a row.

“Why did you call us here?”

Minchan bluntly got straight to the point. D Team’s youngest member, Kim Yoon, sighed and tried to calm him down.

“Hyung, please.”

“No, are we some kind of dogs to be summoned at their whim?”

Kim Yoon didn’t respond. He was also displeased with this one-sided meeting.

The only reason they could summon S-class Espers without proper explanation was that SY was a major corporation investing heavily in the center.

Though they had come due to the center head’s coaxing and threats, Kim Yoon was equally unhappy. Song Jiwon, who hadn’t spoken a word on the way, felt the same.

“The reason we suddenly called you here is…”

As the middle-aged man hesitated, Minchan’s frown deepened.

“What is it? Why did you stop mid-sentence?”

Minchan’s curt remark filled the conference room with an uncomfortable atmosphere. The young, delicate-looking man who had been silently observing sighed deeply and muttered with a frown.

“Chan.”

Minchan’s face twisted at the unexpected nickname. The only person who could call him that had recently passed away.

“What the hell?”

“What’s with your manners in front of elders?”

“…What?”

“I told you to be polite to elders. Have you been behaving like this when I’m not around?”

The young man’s voice, though unfamiliar, stirred memories of the person Minchan missed dearly.

The three people, who had been protesting by not sitting, turned to look at the man who was leaning back in his chair.

He was someone they had never seen before. In his early twenties, he had a harmless face that seemed to have never experienced hardship.

“Who the hell are you?”

It was Song Jiwon, who hadn’t spoken since leaving the dorm, who asked. The young man, or rather Park Hyunsoo, scowled deeply.

“Your hyung, you idiot.”
