“Good,” said Wei Jie’s mother.
She patted Wei Jie’s shoulder with the rolling pin and said, “Just now you made three promises to me: first, that your relationship is mutual; second, that the school won’t find out; third, that you’ll start making progress. Tomorrow, write a 3,000-word statement of commitment, sign it with your name, and hand it to me. If you fail on any of these, don’t blame me for breaking you two up. Got it?”
Wei Jie hesitated.

“Really?” Fang Shucheng was pleased.
As he cheered up, Wei Jie smiled too, “I have a question I don’t know how to answer. Can you teach me?”

Wei Jie calmly said, “My mom’s back.”
