But how on earth was he supposed to take revenge on PetitRollang?
Dowon pondered this question, slowly stroking his chin, when his phone rang again.
Checking the screen, the name “Ha Wonjin” appeared once more. Dowon set his phone to silent mode, tired of the interruptions.
PetitRollang wasn’t from this world.
Dowon couldn’t meet him, nor could he seek him out. Without a tangible presence, revenge seemed impossible.
How was he supposed to take revenge on someone like that?
Then, an idea struck Dowon—a cunning plan that seemed quite plausible.
If this world was a novel and PetitRollang was its author, then wouldn’t completely ruining this novel be the best revenge?
Recalling how obsessed PetitRollang had been with the negative comments from readers, Dowon pulled a suit jacket from his closet and draped it over his shoulders.
First, he needed to check if there was any kind of force compelling the story to follow its predetermined path.
If such a force existed, ruining the novel would be impossible.
He also needed to find out how much influence the author had over the story…
Without further hesitation, Dowon opened the front door.
As he stepped outside, something sprang up in front of him.
Startled, Dowon saw that it was Wonjin, bowing politely.
“Good morning, Director Cha.”
“…”
“It’s almost time for the executive meeting, and you weren’t answering your phone or coming down, so I took the liberty of coming to get you.”
Dowon stared blankly at Wonjin.
It had been a long time since they’d encountered each other like this.
Though Wonjin looked the same, with his youthful face and round silver-rimmed glasses, Dowon felt nothing but weariness.
Ha Wonjin—once his most trusted subordinate, second only to Lee Eungyeol.
But Wonjin had betrayed him, despite his gentle appearance.
Dowon couldn’t forgive Wonjin, but now that he knew the whole story, his revenge target was solely PetitRollang.
After all, this was just a novel, and Wonjin was merely one of its characters.
Ignoring Wonjin, Dowon pressed the elevator button.
When the elevator arrived, Dowon stepped in, and Wonjin hurried to follow him.
“As you know, today’s the day of the executive meeting.”
Barely listening, Dowon pressed the button for the first floor.
“The chairman will be attending, so it’s an important meeting… But why did you press the button for the first floor? The car is in the basement.”
“Whether it’s the executive meeting or whatever, I’m not going. You should enjoy that pleasant meeting yourself.”
“Excuse me? Did you not hear me? The chairman will be attending this very important meeting today…”
“I don’t care about the chairman or anything else anymore.”
He had been cast aside simply because different blood ran through his veins, so why should he care now?
Dowon had dedicated his entire life to the company, but now all he felt was regret for the time he had wasted.
Adjusting his jacket properly, Dowon exited the elevator on the first floor.
Once outside, he paused, slowly looking around.
Nothing had changed, yet knowing that everything around him was just the backdrop of a third-rate trash novel made his blood boil.
He wanted to tear everything apart.
“Director Cha, you must attend work today. If you need to rest, another day would be…”
Ignoring Wonjin’s pleas, Dowon walked away.
The best way to determine if the novel had any compelling force was to do something the character Cha Dowon would never do.
He walked for a while, observing his surroundings, until he stopped in front of a man who was looking at his phone.
The man tried to sidestep him, but Dowon blocked his path again.
“What is it?”
When Dowon persistently blocked his way, the man raised his head in annoyance.
Seeing the man’s expression, Dowon boldly snatched the phone out of his hand.
The back of the phone bore the mark of Seongjin Electronics, his grandfather’s company.
“Seongjin Electronics? It’s surprising to see someone using such a crappy phone.”
“What? Who the hell are you to start a fight?”
Dowon dropped the man’s phone to the ground and stomped on it with his shoe. The once pristine phone began to crack.
Watching the man’s perfect phone turn into a wreck, Dowon felt a strange sense of liberation, as if a weight had been lifted from his chest.
“Ha. Haha…”
Dowon chuckled softly before bolting away. The man, now furious, chased after him.
“Hey! Damn it, stop right there! Hey!”
“In-director?!”
The real Cha Dowon would never do something so uncouth.
But despite doing something completely out of character, the world continued on peacefully as if nothing had happened. Nothing was amiss.
As he was being chased, Dowon thought: what if I kill all the characters?
What if I blow up Seongjin Group’s headquarters?
Just how far can I go in this novel?
Seeing a florist setting up pots outside her shop, Dowon kicked one of them over.
The sound of the pot shattering was loud, but Dowon didn’t even glance in its direction.
“Ah! What the hell are you doing?!”
“Haha.”
Even though his character was supposed to be dull to emotions, Dowon felt an exhilarating sense of freedom from his first act of rebellion.
He walked into a random store, messed up the neatly displayed items, stole a few things, and walked out.
After all, this was just a novel, and he was already dead once. What did it matter what he did now?
But his carefree attitude didn’t last long. Dowon Bottomn had to completely reconsider his naïve thinking.
“Hey! Did you drink this morning or something? If you’re going to get drunk, do it properly.”
“I’m s-sorry. I apologize.”
Wonjin, repeatedly bowing to the angry middle-aged man, muttered apologies.
“What about my phone? It’s completely ruined! Hey, does this look like a phone to you, or a piece of trash?”
“I’m terribly sorry. We’ll definitely compensate you…”
“No, I want him to apologize, not you.”
The woman whose business was ruined by Dowon’s antics pointed an accusing finger at him, her tone furious.
Dowon scowled at her rudeness but reluctantly apologized under the police’s urging to settle things peacefully.
“I’m sorry.”
“What? Sorry? How old are you, talking down to me like that?”
“Ah, it’s just that this person was raised as a sheltered young master. I apologize. I sincerely apologize…”
Wonjin, looking distraught, once again apologized on behalf of Dowon.
After a long struggle, Dowon agreed to pay them a settlement and was able to leave the police station.
It’s fine to cause a scene, but am I the only one responsible for the consequences?
Upon further inspection, it was clear that the novel had no binding force; the attitudes of the characters and the story itself changed based on Dowon’s actions.
Whether the author could intervene and revert the story to its original state was still unknown…
Dowon decided that he would do everything he could to ruin this novel, as long as it didn’t harm him directly.
But how should he go about it?
“Director Cha, what on earth happened today?”
Dowon ignored Wonjin’s grimace, as if he’d just bitten into something bitter, and checked the time on his phone.
A flood of missed calls greeted him. How flattering to have garnered such interest from so many esteemed individuals.
It had been morning when he left the house, but now it was already afternoon.
He felt strangely drained, likely because he hadn’t eaten anything yesterday and had been wandering around all day.
“I understand that you’re under a lot of stress from work, but behaving like this…”
“I need to eat something.”
“Excuse me?”
Dowon ignored Wonjin, who was beside him, as if he didn’t exist, and continued walking down the street.
Bottomn, a savory, rich smell of oil wafted from somewhere, catching Dowon’s attention. He stopped in front of a shop with a sign that read “Halbae Chicken.”
Dowon had never touched chicken before due to his prejudice against cheap food.
However, after being forced to try it by Eungyeol, he had come to like it somewhat.
Was it because it was the first food Eungyeol had bought for him, or simply because it tasted good?
As if drawn by something, Dowon stepped into the nearby chicken shop.
Wonjin, despite Dowon’s relentless disregard, followed him inside, his nagging continuing as a bonus.
“How are you going to explain today’s incident to the chairman…?”
Wonjin let out a deep sigh, laden with fatigue.
What was there to explain?
Dowon intended to quit the company anyway.
He glanced at the menu the owner brought over and ordered the most familiar item.
“One fried chicken.”
Dowon ordered as if he’d done it countless times before, and Wonjin’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Director, have you had chicken before?”
Dowon didn’t respond to Wonjin and instead turned his head to the side, noticing the POS system on the counter.
As he stared at the square screen, he recalled the strange characters that had appeared before his eyes after his death.
[Cha Dowon (Top1): #ObsessiveCrazyTop…]
Now that he thought about it, what exactly was an “ObsessiveCrazyTop”?
Top? As in a soccer ball or a basketball?

Very nice
Thanks for the update
i like this comical approach to ruin the novels plot line. Despite MC literally losing his life, he’s only really taking petty revenge on the author by acting non-posseive which makes him cute and also shows how he doesn’t really understand emotions
I felt bad for Wonjin having to deal with the episode but like it couldnt be helped, this is just the start of Yeongdak’s journey to break free from being an obsessive crazy top!!
Thanks
