“Tweet! Tweet-tweet…!”
Saewoo, with tears in his eyes, bounced around the room like a rubber ball, desperately searching for an escape.
But since there were few belongings in the room, there wasn’t much to hide behind.
Grab.
“…!”
At that moment, something large and dark approached and easily pinned down the weak, fluffy bird.
It was the panther’s paw.
‘Ahhh…!’
Saewoo screamed internally.
He struggled to escape, but it was useless.
He had been captured far too easily.
“Tweet-! Tweeet-!”
All Saewoo could do was cry out loudly as he was trapped under the panther’s sharp claws, which were as big as his own body.
Tiny tears welled up in his little gray eyes.
‘Why…! How could he do this to someone who helped him…?’
Swish…
As Saewoo sobbed pitifully, the panther seemed to notice.
Lowering his head, he stared closely at the trembling little bird between his silver claws.
“…!”
In that moment, their eyes met.
The panther’s golden eyes, full of primal intensity, locked onto Saewoo’s gaze.
The panther leaned in and licked the bird from head to tail with a long tongue.
‘Eeeek…!’
Saewoo’s feathers and tail stiffened in terror.
Goosebumps spread all over his tiny body.
The panther, watching Saewoo freeze in place, huffed a deep breath through his nose.
‘W-What…? No way… did he just taste me…?’
Realizing this too late, Saewoo flapped his wings frantically, chirping non-stop.
But all he managed to do was stir up some dust from his bright red feathers, still trapped in the panther’s grasp.
At that moment, the panther opened his mouth wide.
His massive fangs loomed over Saewoo, and the dark, cavernous mouth stretched open like a bottomless pit.
‘Ahhh… He’s going to eat me…!’
In that instant, Saewoo’s entire life flashed before his eyes.
‘So… this is how it ends….’
In that brief moment, countless thoughts crossed Saewoo’s mind.
His life as Baek Saewoo had been so fleeting.
He had lived as just an ordinary man in South Korea, only to suddenly transmigrate into the world of shape shifters, becoming a frail, terminally ill bird shifter.
And now, his life was about to end in such a meaningless way…
Suddenly, a wave of melancholy washed over him.
He had thought it would all end with him getting the main couple together for their happy ending.
Despite all the hardships, he had planned to live out the rest of his days as a building owner, enjoying a peaceful life.
He had even done thorough research to find the perfect place….
All his efforts were now in vain, and it felt utterly futile.
He wished he could just disappear into thin air.
Well, if he was swallowed up by the panther’s stomach, there wouldn’t be any trace left of him, so maybe it didn’t matter?
Sinking into his thoughts, Saewoo let out a sigh and gave up, releasing all the tension in his body.
As if resigning himself to his fate, he closed his eyes, and a single tear rolled down his downy feathers.

Chirp, chirp.
The heavy rain that had poured down all night had finally stopped.
Early in the morning, the sound of chattering sparrows filled the air, and sunlight streamed through the parting clouds.
A thin beam of sunlight slipped through the window and landed on the face of the small bird, its silver feathers tinged with red.
Twitch. The tightly closed eyes moved slightly, and the tiny beak opened and closed.
“Tweet… eek….”
The bird let out a faint sound, slowly coming to its senses under the warm sunlight.
His throat was hoarse from all the crying he had done the previous night.
“Tweet… tweet?”
Suddenly, he realized something was strange.
His small gray eyes snapped open.
‘W-What…?’
Even though his eyes were open, Saewoo remained frozen in shock for a while.
‘Oh my god… I’m alive…?!’
It took a moment for him to regain his senses.
The last thing he remembered before passing out was the terrifying sight of the panther’s throat.
It had been a scene no one could mistake for anything other than a final moment.
He had thought he was in heaven, but there was no such feeling.
‘Then… why am I…?’
Confused, Saewoo fidgeted slightly.
Squelch.
‘Huh…?’
But something felt off with Saewoo’s body.
His feathers were completely soaked through.
Was it because the rain from the night before hadn’t fully dried yet?
He tried to spread his wings in confusion, but they stuck to something thick and sticky.
‘W-What…?’
Whoosh.
As Saewoo propped himself up slightly, a blast of hot air hit him right in the face. The wind was so strong that he could barely open his eyes, and then he caught sight of something glinting.
His gaze froze.
Directly above his head were the sharp, glistening teeth of a beast, shining even whiter under the sunlight.
“W-What the…!”
Saewoo yelled in panic, only now realizing.
He was inside the mouth of a black panther.
‘Oh my god! I have to get out…! Quickly…!’
Now fully aware of the situation, Saewoo thrashed around with his soaked body. Frantically trying to lift himself, his foot pressed down on something soft and squishy.
“……!”
His feathers stood on end.
Panic seized him as he realized what he had stepped on: the panther’s tongue.
‘Stay calm… Stay calm…’
Saewoo stiffened, forcing himself to be rational. He had to survive, no matter what. Steeling himself, he scanned his surroundings quickly.
‘Is it… asleep?’
Despite all his frantic movements, the panther showed no significant reaction. It seemed like the beast had fallen asleep with him trapped inside its mouth.
‘This is my chance to escape!’
With that thought, Saewoo squeezed his body between the sharp teeth blocking his way like a prison.
Squeeze, squeeze.
“Ugh, come on…”
But with his body plump from winter, it was impossible to slip through the narrow gap.
‘Huff, huff… I’m getting dizzy…’
Had he overexerted himself?
He soon felt weak and went limp. His head was spinning, and nausea overwhelmed him. If he passed out again, he might never wake up.
“N-No!”
(That can’t happen…!)
Desperate, Saewoo screamed for help with all his might. Even though he couldn’t speak human language, beastmen could understand each other. Surely, even a predator could recognize a plea for help.
But the black panther, deep in sleep with him still in its mouth, didn’t stir. The massive creature, big enough to fill half a room just by lying there, continued to breathe steadily, its body expanding and contracting with each breath.
Was this really how Saewoo was going to die? Just like this?
As despair washed over him—
Ding-dong.
The silence in the house was broken by the clear sound of the doorbell. The panther didn’t stir.
Ding-dong.
Thankfully, the doorbell rang again.
“W-Wake up! Please, wake up…!”
Saewoo shouted with all the strength he had left, begging the panther to wake.
Ding-dong. Ding-dong. Ding-dong.
Flinch.
The continuous ringing finally got a reaction. A hot breath escaped the panther’s mouth as its tongue, which had been resting beneath Saewoo, moved. The tip of the tongue brushed against his butt.
“Eek…!”
Squelch… Plop.
Just when he thought he was done for, the mouth with sharp teeth finally opened, and Saewoo was spat out like a soggy ball of fluff.
He tumbled across the floor, soaked in saliva, until he hit the bathroom door and came to a stop.
‘Ugh…’
Though relieved to have escaped the panther’s mouth, Saewoo’s frail body prevented him from moving for a while.
Puff.
“Haaa…ahh!”
In the meantime, the black panther shifted into his beastman form and let out a huge yawn, completely oblivious to what had just been in his mouth.
Ding-dong.
The doorbell continued to ring.
“Ugh, what a racket…”
The panther, still half-asleep and looking disinterested, casually strolled toward the front door as if it were his own home. It seemed like he was about to open the door without a second thought, even though it wasn’t his place.
‘No, don’t…!’
Realizing this too late, Saewoo flapped his wings desperately. Though his feathers were still drenched, he managed to catch the panther’s attention.
“…What now?”
From his perspective, Saewoo probably looked like nothing more than a fluff ball buzzing around on the floor.
“Beeeeeep!”
Using all his strength, Saewoo launched himself forward.
Thud!
Like a rocket, he soared through the air, only to end up crashing into something with a soft plop.
Oh no.
His beak had embedded itself directly in the center of the panther’s forehead.
