Su Lingwei’s heart jumped to her throat, “Xinran, what’s wrong with you?”
“Hello? Hello?”
“Xinran, are you okay?”
There was no response from the other end.
There was no sound at all from Li Xinran’s side.
Su Lingwei didn’t know what had happened to her, she was extremely worried. She asked several times, but Li Xinran didn’t respond. Su Lingwei was very anxious, couldn’t wait another second, picked up her bag, and told Director Wu before quickly leaving the audition room.
Yang Yibin was performing on stage.
Seeing Su Lingwei suddenly stand up, answer a phone call, and then hurriedly leave, he didn’t know what had happened to make her leave in such a hurry.
He felt a bit lost in his heart. Su Lingwei couldn’t see his audition performance, and he wanted her to see it, to give him some affirmation.
Su Lingwei hurriedly left the audition room, drove to Li Xinran’s apartment in Perfume Garden, where Li Xinran usually lived.
On the way to Perfume Garden, Su Lingwei also called Li Xinran’s elder brother, Li Bowen.
In the call, Su Lingwei briefly explained the situation to Li Bowen.
“I just received a call from Li Xinran, she said ‘help’ and then the call got cut off, there was no more sound. I’m on my way to Perfume Garden.”
When Li Bowen heard that his sister was in trouble and didn’t know what the situation was, even though he was nearly twenty years older than Su Lingwei and had experienced many ups and downs, his concern for Li Xinran was the same.
He became anxious all of a sudden.
“I’ll go to Perfume Garden right away to see.” Li Bowen informed his driver to change direction to Perfume Garden.
After informing Li Bowen, Su Lingwei stepped on the gas pedal and accelerated towards Perfume Garden.
More than ten minutes later, Su Lingwei arrived at the entrance of Li Xinran’s apartment and happened to meet Li Bowen who had just arrived.
“I don’t know what the situation is. I called her several times but she didn’t pick up.” Li Bowen frowned deeply.
Li Xinran was his only younger sister, almost twenty years younger than him. He had raised her like his own daughter since she was young, and the whole family spoiled her.
She was like a treasure in everyone’s hands.
He couldn’t bear to see her suffer even a little bit, let alone endure any hardships.
If something really happened to her, Li Bowen dared not think about what the whole family would become.
Su Lingwei and Li Bowen took the elevator together and went upstairs. Su Lingwei said, “I also received a call from her suddenly, heard her say ‘help,’ and then there was no sound. Let’s go in and have a look quickly.”
At the door of the apartment, Li Bowen knew the password to Li Xinran’s house and opened the door with the password lock.
“Li Xinran.” Su Lingwei shouted and hurriedly ran into Li Xinran’s bedroom to look for her.
Li Bowen followed to check the other rooms.
“She’s here, she’s passed out, come and help.” Su Lingwei saw Li Xinran lying on the floor, already unconscious, and immediately shouted for Li Bowen.
Li Bowen hurried over, saw Li Xinran lying on the floor, felt both heartache and worry, and instructed Su Lingwei not to move her for the time being, because he didn’t know her condition and didn’t want to cause her any further harm. He called for an ambulance.
The ambulance arrived quickly, and Su Lingwei stayed by Li Xinran’s side, calling her name, hoping she would wake up soon. Li Xinran was usually in good health, always passing her check-ups with flying colors. How could she suddenly faint?
After a doctor’s examination, it was determined that Li Xinran had acute appendicitis, causing her to faint from the pain. She needed surgery immediately.
Li Xinran was quickly wheeled into the operating room, with Su Lingwei and Li Bowen waiting outside.
Fortunately, Li Xinran’s parents were not in the country; they had gone on a trip just a few days ago.
If they knew about this, they might have rushed to the hospital.
Mother Li, who was so sentimental, might have already been outside the operating room, shedding tears.
“Xinran will be fine, she just needs to get through the surgery,” Li Bowen said, not only to comfort Su Lingwei but also to reassure himself.
He was almost twenty years older than Li Xinran.
If he had married early, his children would have been about the same age as Li Xinran.
Over the years, Li Xinran had mostly grown up with him.
He took care of her more than her father and mother, who preferred romance and the pleasures of life.
He truly treated Li Xinran as his precious child, unable to bear the thought of her being hurt.
Before long, the lights in the operating room went out.
Nurses wheeled Li Xinran out of the operating room, and Su Lingwei and Li Bowen hurried forward to see her.
“Doctor, how is my sister?” Li Bowen asked.
The doctor said to the two of them, “The surgery was very successful, no need to worry. She will need to stay in the hospital for a few days for observation, and once the wound heals, she can be discharged.”
“Thank you, doctor,” Li Bowen said.
Li Xinran was taken to a VIP ward. Su Lingwei stayed by her side, while Li Bowen made a phone call, instructing the housekeeper to come to the hospital to take care of Li Xinran.
He had a lot of work at the company every day and couldn’t stay at the hospital with her all the time.
Before long, Li Xinran woke up.
She learned that the doctor had made a small incision on her body and removed a section of her appendix that was not needed.
Feeling wronged, she pouted and said, “I was in so much pain at home just now, I almost thought I had some serious illness and was going to die.”
“Thank goodness you called me,” Su Lingwei reached out and touched her head. “Next time, don’t scare us like this. You don’t know, when I received your call and heard you cry for help, then nothing, my heart almost jumped out. I was so worried, what if something serious happened to you?”
Li Xinran’s wound still hurt a bit, so she didn’t dare to laugh too hard.
She could only look apologetically at Su Lingwei and say, “I was in so much pain that I was confused. I just randomly dialed a number on my phone, thinking of calling for help.”
“I think it’s not safe for you to live alone outside. After you recover from this illness, move back to the old house. There are servants to take care of you, and if anything happens, we can know immediately and be prepared,” Li Bowen said solemnly.
He knew how scared he was when he received Su Lingwei’s call and learned that Li Xinran had an accident.
Even though he now saw that Li Xinran was safe, he still felt lingering fear.
“This time it’s just acute appendicitis. But what if next time you’re really kidnapped, or something else life-threatening happens? How can we rush to save you?” Li Bowen didn’t give Li Xinran any chance to change his decision, even though her attempt to act cute this time would not be effective.
He directly decided on the arrangements for Li Xinran.
“After you’re discharged, you’ll go back home. Unless you want me to call Dad and Mom back immediately.”
Li Xinran felt overwhelmed.
