His brain froze.
Mouth hung open.
What did he just say?
“Lock you up.”
That disturbing phrase shot through Raon’s head.
The kind of line you’d only hear in a novel.
Well, this was a novel.
But still, that kind of word didn’t suit someone like him—a villain who’s been hated all his life.
Lines like that were reserved for the main character, Hamin—not him.
What the hell was happening?
‘Okay. Calm down first.’
Raon barely managed to settle his nerves.
Wherever this idea came from, he needed to nip it in the bud before Siwoo ended up like one of those unhinged espers.
Swallowing dryly, Raon finally opened his mouth.
“Do you even know what ‘locking someone up’ means…?”
“I do. I just want to keep you locked in my house now.”
“No, that’s not—”
Siwoo took Raon’s outstretched, hesitant hand and pressed it against his cheek.
Raon was so stunned that he couldn’t even summon his guiding energy.
And yet, Siwoo buried his face in Raon’s hands and let out a deep sigh.
“I want to gouge out the eyes of every bastard who looks at you. I want to cut off the arms of anyone who touches you. But you’d say I can’t do that, right?”
“Of… of course not!”
“Then I’ll just have to lock you up.”
“…”
Raon was struck speechless by the seriousness in Siwoo’s tone.
There was no sign—no warning—that Siwoo had spiraled like this.
How did he end up like this?
Locking someone up?
Obsessing?
That was something other espers did.
And besides, Siwoo never acted this way with Hamin in the original story.
Raon panicked and hurried to speak.
“You—you can’t just go around locking people up! That’s not okay!”
Raon was so flustered he started stammering, completely unlike his usual self.
He didn’t even know what he was saying anymore—his normally slick mouth now refusing to work.
Suddenly, a scene from the novel popped into his head.
The main character, Dojin, was crazy enough to lock Hamin in the house, world falling apart or not, just because they started living together.
And now Siwoo was thinking the same?
He never imagined Siwoo would go that far.
“Pfft.”
“…?”
Raon, still frozen, stared blankly as Siwoo let out a soft, deflating laugh with his face still buried in Raon’s palms.
Then he looked up—with a rare smile on his face—and met Raon’s eyes.
“Just kidding.”
“Kidding?”
“Yeah.”
Siwoo said it so casually that Raon blinked in disbelief.
He said it was a joke, but wasn’t he way too serious just now?
Raon had always been good at reading people—maybe naturally, or maybe from years of dealing with his mother’s ever-changing partners and the family drama.
Either way, telling a joke from the truth was easy for him.
Which is why he could immediately tell—Siwoo saying it was a joke was the actual lie.
But… it seemed smarter to just let this one go.
Still clearly shaken, Raon forced himself to speak.
“Who jokes like that?”
“I’m just that pissed off that you keep guiding other people.”
“Okay, okay! My bad!”
Raon apologized repeatedly as Siwoo rubbed his cheek into his palm.
At this point, he wasn’t so sure Siwoo was a gentle herbivore anymore.
More like a predator pretending to be one.
Black hair and eyes, lean but built—he looked just like a panther.
Raon chuckled to himself.
He’d nearly ended up in captivity right after moving in.
If that happened, he’d spend his days lounging around this big house, waiting for Siwoo to come home…
And when he did, they’d guide, do some other feel-good things.
As long as Raon didn’t push him away, Siwoo would be as affectionate as always.
‘Honestly… might not be so bad?’
The thought startled him.
But given how satisfied he already was with living together like this, being locked in might not be so boring or uncomfortable after all.
‘No, what the hell am I thinking—’
Raon shook his head violently to get rid of the thought, horrified.
Then he looked down at Siwoo, who was still nuzzling into his hand, with complicated eyes.
“No more jokes like that, got it?”
“Okay.”
“You’re always quick to answer, huh.”
Clicking his tongue, Raon finally pushed out some guiding energy, which had refused to come out earlier from the shock.
Siwoo’s black eyes slowly softened.
At least things seemed to have calmed down—Raon let out a small breath of relief.
The Next Day.
As usual, Raon started training.
Since he was overseeing Dasom and Jamie’s training, he headed to the Esper Training Area first.
But an unwelcome visitor showed up first thing in the morning.
“What the hell did you report upstairs?”
“Hmm?”
Mikhail stormed into the training center, yelling.
Clearly, his higher-up had chewed him out for the reverse-guiding incident during their first meeting.
Raon suspected Seokhyeon had really let him have it.
Honestly, it served him right.
Feigning ignorance, Raon asked,
“What are you talking about?”
“You said you’d let it go if I apologized! But then you ratted me out?”
“Oh, that.”
Raon raised a hand and picked at his ear with his pinky.
That rude, disrespectful gesture made Mikhail’s handsome face twist in anger.
“I wanted to keep it a secret, but it already reached the director’s ears. Nothing I could do.”
“Ha!”
“Shouldn’t have done something like that in the first place.”
“You little—!”
Mikhail’s body shook with rage at Raon’s lazy response.
Any normal guide might have been terrified by the murderous intent radiating from an S-Rank esper—but not Raon.
Especially with Siwoo now standing beside him, glaring daggers.
“Damn it. Just wait.”
“Anytime.”
Apparently, “damn” was the only curse word Mikhail knew, because the translator kept repeating the same one over and over.
Raon lazily waved after the fuming man as he stomped off.
“Is everything alright, Team Leader Raon?”
“It’s nothing serious.”
“Did Mikhail cause trouble again…?”
“It’s not like that. Don’t worry.”
Jamie looked concerned, knowing Mikhail’s rough personality well.
Raon quickly waved it off.
“Please take good care of Esper Dasom’s training today.”
“I’ll do my best.”
It was about time to start preparing for the next gate.
The Violet Gate had appeared much earlier than expected, which meant the next one would likely pop up sooner than they thought.
Everything that could be done beforehand had to be.
“Um, Team Leader?”
“Yes? What is it?”
Raon, who had been about to leave after taking a look around the Esper training grounds, paused when Hamin grabbed his sleeve.
He looked at him curiously.
Hamin’s cheeks flushed for some reason, and he looked up at Raon with a slightly anxious expression.
“Um, would it be okay… if I talked to you for a bit after training?”
“Talk?”
“Yes.”
Hamin nodded nervously, his hands tightly clasped together.
Seeing that, Raon’s concern surfaced.
‘Is something wrong again? Seo Dojin is still hospitalized, so it shouldn’t be about him…’
Ever since reawakening as an Esper, Hamin had been like an angel who regained his wings—completely free.
Unlike Dasom, he hadn’t struggled much with controlling his powers, and he no longer had to suffer because of Dojin.
Raon had thought he was doing fine.
So this sudden request for a talk was unexpected.
“Alright. Let’s meet in the counseling room later.”
“O-okay!”
Hamin’s face instantly lit up, and he nodded with a bright smile.
Tilting his head in puzzlement, Raon walked away.
It seemed like he’d need to ask for more details after training.
After the session ended, Raon explained the situation to a visibly annoyed Siwoo before heading to the counseling room.
For safety, Siwoo decided to wait outside.
Raon’s steps grew more hurried.
“Hamin Gai—no, Esper Hamin. Is something the matter?”
Raon had almost used the familiar nickname but quickly corrected himself.
Hamin cautiously opened his mouth.
“Well… actually, I haven’t been feeling great lately.”
“Not feeling well?”
“Yeah. My contamination levels aren’t rising or anything, but even the Center said it’s strange…”
“Ah.”
As a multi-type Esper, Hamin didn’t need guiding.
It made sense—his highest compatibility was with himself.
And yet, he was claiming to feel unwell, as if his contamination was worsening.
“It might be psychological. Do you have any guesses?”
“I… I’ve been thinking about that too.”
“Thinking?”
“Yes, I…”
It was clear Hamin had been mulling this over on his own for a while.
He hesitantly laid out his thoughts and then said something shocking at the end.
“Would you… guide me again? Just once more?”
“You want me to guide you?”
“Y-yeah…”
“……”
Raon was momentarily stunned and turned his head toward the door.
He was worried Siwoo might have overheard.
Thankfully, there was no sign of movement outside.
Letting out an involuntary breath of relief, Raon turned his eyes back to Hamin.
“I’m sorry, but… I have a pair Esper, so I can’t guide anyone outside of the Gate.”
“Isn’t there… really no way?”
“……”
Hamin trembled pitifully like a soaked mouse.
Raon’s mind went blank.
‘At this rate, I’m going to end up locked up for real…’
A stifled sigh slipped between his lips.

I quite literally choked for a moment there. Siwoo baby, what the hell????
