“I love money, money loves me, money comes from all directions…”
The Demon King hesitated for a long time, but finally mustered the courage to ask the guy who was acting crazy in his office, “Lin, is this a new spell you’ve mastered?”
Lin Lin turned around, her expression as cold as the ice and snow of deep winter. “Why do you think I came to your office for? To go crazy?”
The Demon King thought seriously for a moment, imagined the possible consequences, and decisively turned away. “Then let’s pretend I didn’t ask.”
Lin Lin grabbed his hair. “Come back here!”
After several days of hard work, Lin Lin finally realized how poor the Demon King’s castle had become.
After she mentioned that she could manage the accounts, the Demon King showed a rather sincere and relieved smile.
This smile, passing off a mess to someone else, was truly brilliant!
1. The Demon King’s castle was undoubtedly losing money year after year, a loss-making enterprise for two hundred consecutive years. Its survival now depended solely on the wealth of its ancestors.
2. Apart from gold, silver, and gems, the things the Demon King had accumulated over the years were also quite valuable, but they had no market at all. Few people were willing to buy such stuff.
3. The Demon King’s castle was only supported by existing funds. In two months, everyone would be left with nothing.
4. After the Dragon Clan took away the golden basin and gems, there was now only a month left before everyone would be left with nothing.
Lin Lin pushed a thick stack of spreadsheets in front of the Demon King.
“By the month after next, we won’t even be able to pay salaries.”
“That day has come,” the Demon King sighed, his hand wiping his eyes, his gaze sorrowful.
“Then let’s divide this money up and go our separate ways.”
How is this any different from Zhu Bajie quarreling over dividing luggage to return to his old village! (Journey to the west reference.)
Take up the responsibilities befitting the Demon King!
“Our most important issue now is the lack of income,” Lin Lin’s pen spun at her fingertips, and the blunt end poked hard at the Demon King’s arm. “Go out and make money! Demon King!”
The Demon King thought for a few seconds.
“Do we go out and rob? To be honest, when we went to destroy villages before, we hardly found any money; it felt embarrassing.”
You’ve already destroyed villages, and you’re worried about embarrassment?
You can leave the money-picking to the Dark Elves; they don’t mind embarrassment, and even enjoy it.
“If we send out troops, there are a lot of soldiers, and we’ll have to pay a large sum in wages,” the Demon King rested his chin on his hand. “Plus, it’s summer now. Many monster babies have just been born, and it’s when new parents are busy taking care of their babies. Sending people out to work at this time will just be criticized.”
It seems like you’re often criticized.
Lin Lin didn’t know where to start criticizing.
“Let’s open our minds,” Lin Lin helped him think in other directions, “like trading with humans or orcs? Selling some local specialties, or promoting the service industry?”
The Demon King began to think seriously.
Lin Lin boredly looked around, at the single bed in the office used for rest, which was themed in pure black, fitting for the castle, but somehow looked much more luxurious than hers.
Lin Lin pointed to the single bed, raising an eyebrow, indicating that she wanted to try it out.
The demon king gestured with a sweep of his hand, indicating she could do as she pleased.
Having passed the difficult question back to the demon king, Lin Lin felt considerably more relaxed.
She happily went to feel the single bed, which was covered in a pure black three-piece set.
She reached out and pressed on the bed.
This! The soft and plump texture was like touching the feathers of a swan!
Why is the mattress so soft!
‘Are you the princess from “The Princess and the Pea”?’
‘No wonder Auntie Eli secretly called this the Tower Princess of the Demon King’s Castle!’
Lin Lin looked back at the demon king in surprise, then continued to reach out and press on the bed: “What material is this mattress made of?”
The demon king looked up, somewhat puzzled: “It’s the same as the one you slept on.”
“Nonsense! Mine was clearly very hard.”
“Oh,” the demon king realized, “because I added a softening spell to it, which I researched when I had nothing else to do. If you want, I can make one for you too.”
Magic in this world is very rare, and it’s not enough for serious matters, let alone for comfort. So, the villagers are very afraid of witches with magic powers.
Lin Lin’s eyes lit up: “We can sell this! A mattress enchanted with high-level magic! Improves sleep quality!”
“But I’m the demon king.”
“That’s perfect, isn’t it? It saves on advertising costs, ‘If the Demon King uses it, it must be good.'”
Generating revenue for the Demon King’s Castle was not solely the demon king’s responsibility; it required the cooperation of everyone.
The demon king called a meeting with his subordinates and reminded Lin Lin to be careful of those officials she had not yet met.
“I understand, scum have meetings too.”
“Yes, you are a precious human, so you must protect yourself. Being tough will prevent others from looking down on you.” The demon king, as if afraid that others wouldn’t see the demon mark on Lin Lin’s neck, deliberately tied up her loose hair.
His hands were skillful, effortlessly creating a gentle bun hairstyle.
Lin Lin smiled wryly, reminding the long-haired princess who had rarely left the Demon King’s Castle, “There are humans all over the streets, so being one isn’t that special.”
The demon’s fingertips moved through their similar black hair. Lin Lin suddenly remembered her treatment in the human village: “When I went to the human village, they called me a witch.”
It wasn’t tattling; Lin Lin just briefly remembered that their hair colors were the same.
Chin up, she looked at the demon king, who responded with an indifferent smile.
“So you’re not just any human; you’re a precious human from the Demon King’s Castle,” he finished the bun, tucking away the stray hairs at Lin Lin’s temples, “All set, go have fun!”
With nothing on the back of her neck, Lin Lin touched the spot where the demon had left his mark.
The demon king tilted his head, unsure of the meaning behind her action.
Looking up, Lin Lin said, “With this mark, am I like Sapphire and the others? Am I your subordinate too?”
And there was a feeling of being superior to others, as if she were above everyone else, not just one of many subordinates.
The young man smiled, he always smiled, but in this moment, it seemed the corners of his lips lifted a bit more.
“You’re a bit different from Sapphire,” the demon king reached out, the slightly cool fingertips of the demon touching Lin Lin’s neck.
The light touch alone made the mark touched by the demon glow in response.
“Sapphire is loyal to the Demon Castle,” the Demon King spoke, “Your soul is mine and because I am the Demon King, you are loyal to the Demon Castle.”
Lin Lin: Oh no! Indeed, it’s ‘one under. ten thousand above’! It’s the grand eunuch!
