I am not a Yandere chapter 130

* * *

Shaking off his melancholy, Yeongdeok renewed his resolve to get back at PetitRolang by distancing himself even further from Cha Dowon.

And he’d start by altering the story of one of the main characters, Wonjin, since he was the one who had the fewest ties with Eungyeol, the lead character.

It would be easier to pull him off the original plot path.

[Hey, you free this weekend?]

[Wonjin: Huh? This weekend?]

[You’re busy?]

[Wonjin: Not at all! Even if I were, I’d make time for you!]

Yeongdeok thought Wonjin was promising more than he could deliver.

How could he make time when he didn’t have any?

[Wonjin: By the way, Yeongdeok…]

[Wonjin: The way you’re texting feels a bit…]

[Wonjin: Actually, never mind!]

[Wonjin: I just can’t believe you’re the one reaching out first!]

[Wonjin: What’s the occasion? Where should we meet?]

[Just a café would do, right?]

[Wonjin: But it’d be a waste to just go to a café! Want to check out an exhibit or something?]

An exhibit? Yeongdeok only intended to talk business and leave, but it seemed Wonjin had other ideas.

Fine, an exhibit.

It’s not like he was asking to see anything scandalous.

Yeongdeok agreed.

[Alright.]

[And, hyung…]

[What’s your type, by the way?]

[Wonjin: My type?]

[Yeah.]

[Wonjin: You mean the “type” I think you mean, right?]

[What else could “type” mean?]

[Wonjin: Well, if we’re going by the dictionary, Max Weber (Weber, M.) defines “ideal type” as a conceptual tool in social science research that’s based on universal values and standards, used to understand the dynamic and diverse nature of society and culture.]

[Wonjin: I just looked it up—apparently, it could mean that.]

Is he messing with me? Yeongdeok felt his brow twitch as he read Wonjin’s message. More texts came through.

[Wonjin: Just kidding… I was just confused why you’d ask about my type, Yeongdeok.]

[Wonjin: What made you curious?]

Why? Yeongdeok’s answer was obvious.

He was planning to introduce someone new to him to ruin the original plot.

But if he said that, Wonjin would surely think he was out of his mind, so he dodged.

[Is the reason that important?]

[Wonjin: Well, if it’s important, then… yes?]

[I just wanted to know.]

[Wonjin: I see…]

Had Yeongdeok asked something uncomfortable?

Wonjin didn’t respond for several minutes, but finally replied after about seven minutes.

[Wonjin: Someone who gives off a protective vibe, like they need to be looked after?]

[So, someone who’s small and cute?]

[Wonjin: No, looks don’t matter.]

[So, someone clumsy enough to need help all the time? Odd preference, but alright.]

[Wonjin: No, that’s not quite it either…]

Yeongdeok couldn’t fully grasp Wonjin’s type, but he made a mental note.

It would come in handy.

[Got it. See you on the weekend.]

[Wonjin: Looking forward to it!]

What was there to look forward to?

It was just seeing the same face as always.

Yeongdeok noted their meeting in his calendar.

Now that he’d arranged it, all that was left was…

Scrolling through a list of people who resembled Eungyeol, Yeongdeok considered carefully who would be the best match to introduce to Wonjin.

When the day of the meeting arrived, Wonjin was waiting outside the exhibit hall dressed in a long-sleeved black shirt and slacks, despite the summer heat.

Though curious about Yeongdeok’s reason for initiating this meeting, he felt a warm sense of anticipation, thinking that Yeongdeok might be opening up to him.

While he was basking in this feeling, he heard murmurs around him.

“Who is that?”

“He’s so handsome!”

“Is he a model?”

Wonjin followed people’s gazes and saw a familiar face approaching from afar.

Yeongdeok, who had graduated from his days of eccentric, “fashion-disaster” outfits, now typically wore simple monotone casuals.

But today, for some reason, he was dressed in pastel tones, knee-length shorts, and even a beige beret.

He looked fresh and stylish, like an online shopping model or idol, with a warm aura around him that felt more like spring than his usual coldness.

Seeing him like this gave Wonjin a strange thrill.

Yeongdeok waved at Wonjin, smiling brightly.

“Hyung.”

“…Excuse me?”

Wonjin wondered if he’d misheard.

Yeongdeok calling him “hyung” had left such an impression that he doubted his own ears.

But the words that followed were even more unusual.

“You’re early. Have you been waiting long?”

Gone was Yeongdeok’s typical distant tone; instead, he sounded as casual as anyone else.

Wonjin’s face filled with question marks, and his mind was equally blank with confusion, feeling an eerie chill creeping up his spine.

‘What is this? Did I do something wrong? I don’t remember doing anything in particular lately…’

With a pale face, Wonjin mentally reviewed his recent interactions with Yeongdeok, but just then, Yeongdeok grabbed his arm firmly.

“Come on, let’s get tickets instead of standing here.”

“W-wait a minute!”

Wonjin stammered, trying to shake Yeongdeok off, sending him back a few steps.

“Who are you? You’re not Yeongdeok, are you?”

Wonjin’s voice was full of suspicion as he adjusted his glasses and scrutinized Yeongdeok.

“I am, though. What’s that supposed to mean?”

“The real Yeongdeok has no social skills. He’d never talk like this, nor would he smile at someone or grab their arm so casually.”

Yeongdeok raised an eyebrow, pretending not to be offended as Wonjin slandered him, casting him as an anti-social misanthrope.

This brat…

For a second, Yeongdeok almost dropped the act and reverted to his usual self, but he held back, remembering his resolve to break free from his “cold and aloof” image.

“I’m really Cha Yeongdeok.”

“Then prove it,” Wonjin challenged, clearly suspicious.

All Yeongdeok wanted was to avoid wasting time and get on with the exhibition, so he sighed heavily.

At that, Wonjin clapped his hands.

“That sharp glare… It’s really you, Yeongdeok!”

“What exactly do you think I am…?”

Annoyed, Yeongdeok was about to tell him off, but instead, he smiled and pulled Wonjin along by the arm.

“Now that that’s settled, let’s get tickets.”

Wonjin obediently followed, though he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.

Why was Yeongdeok acting like this?

It felt like he was pretending to be a normal person now.

He couldn’t make sense of Yeongdeok’s behavior.

“Why the sudden change in how you’re talking? You wouldn’t even change it when I brought you the revised script.”

“You told me yourself, hyung. That normal people don’t talk the way I do.”

“…”

“So, I thought I’d try it.”

Seeing Yeongdeok smile at him, Wonjin felt his mind go hazy.

Yeongdeok, acting normal, behaving like everyone else…

It was disorienting, the contrast from his usual self too stark to ignore.

“Don’t force yourself. Being yourself is what makes you unique, Yeongdeok.”

Yeongdeok gave a small, bitter smile.

Unique, huh.

A polite way of saying he’d been assigned a “cold and distant” persona.

“Thanks for caring. But it’s fine.”

Even though this version of Yeongdeok was strange, Wonjin tried to brush it off, figuring it was one of his whims.

If he left him alone, Yeongdeok would return to his old self soon enough.

At the ticket booth, they bought two tickets and entered the exhibition hall.

“Do you like exhibitions, hyung?”

“Not particularly.”

“Then why’d you want to come?”

Yeongdeok was puzzled.

Why go through the trouble of coming here if he didn’t even enjoy it?

“I thought you’d like it.”

“Me?”

Yeongdeok looked even more confused.

What did his preferences have to do with Wonjin’s?

Just then, Wonjin pointed to a painting on the wall and let out a small exclamation.

“That painting looks like you, Yeongdeok.”

Yeongdeok followed Wonjin’s finger.

In the painting, a figure with a sharp scowl glared out from the frame, his head disproportionately larger than his body.

“Your eyesight must be failing.”

“Are you not going to correct your tone this time?”

Yeongdeok gave him a sideways glance, then forced a smile as if he’d just remembered he was trying to talk differently.

“Let’s go look at the other works.”
