I didn’t think I was paying much attention to Edwin… No, I’m sure I didn’t.
Henry’s mind became tangled with confusion.
“You must have been able to tell from his stoic face, right? Or am I wrong?”
…Not really.
“I still feel the same. In love, conditions don’t matter. As long as they’re happy with each other.”
“No, Your Highness. That’s not it.”
“There’s no rule that says a beta must only love a beta. Even if there were, I’d get rid of it.”
Hearing someone in power speak so assuredly made it seem like it could really happen.
But it was something that absolutely should not occur, so Henry waved his hands in denial.
“You don’t need to do that. More importantly, what conditions are needed for love? Whether beta loves beta… Anyway, it’s all irrelevant to me, so please stop.”
“Really now, when did you become so obvious?”
“I’m telling you it’s not like that!”
“I’ll help you properly.”
Crown Prince William delivered the final blow to the stunned Henry before entering the carriage.
Sensing the moment, Sir Teher closed the carriage window, and Henry collapsed onto the pillow.
“I’m doomed.”
Henry pounded the pillow with his fist. No one else knew about his feelings for Edwin.
But while keeping quiet should have solved the problem, it appeared different to others.
The Crown Prince believed that because Henry had liked Edwin all along, he could read Edwin’s every mood from the slightest expression.
Henry had thought emphasizing that he didn’t like Edwin was enough, but he had overlooked the Crown Prince.
In hindsight, it was an obvious fact. Why the Crown Prince had brought Edwin along on this trip.
“I should have persuaded the Crown Prince first. Or at least clearly stated I had no interest…”
It seemed like the Crown Prince would use every means possible to connect them throughout this trip.
And if that was all, he considered himself fortunate.
“Why did I do that?”
‘Why did I try to peek into Edwin’s inner thoughts just because I sensed his pheromones? ‘
‘Am I really someone who wants to break off my imprint with Edwin? ‘
‘Really?’
‘From tomorrow, I must never show my true feelings. Absolutely.’
Henry mumbled into his pillow. It seemed he needed to increase his guard against Edwin even more.
He had no idea that Edwin was lying on the carriage above him.
Meanwhile, Edwin heard every sound of Henry venting his frustrations into the pillow.
It was obvious what Henry’s expression looked like, writhing in self-loathing.
Edwin propped his head on his arm and looked up at the night sky.
There were times when the prospect of traveling together as a result of winning a bet seemed bothersome, but now that he was actually following through, he was discovering unexpected things.
He used to be irritated by Henry’s gaze.
Was it because that time had accumulated and Henry had come to understand him so well?
As Edwin’s curiosity about Henry grew, his pheromones thickened around him.
Edwin didn’t try to stop his pheromones from spreading.
After all, it was a pheromone no one else could sense.
The pheromones seemed to flow in all directions without a set path, sticking to the carriage like a magnet.
Slowly, carried by the faint breeze, they made their way inside the carriage.
“Oh, what is this?”
Henry thought he sensed Edwin’s pheromones unnecessarily but quickly dismissed it as a mere illusion, assuming it was just the lingering scent from earlier.
“Heh… ha. It’s so painful. Help, someone help me.”
Henry moaned in agony.
His eyes were tightly shut, his body drenched in cold sweat, and he writhed under the blanket as if having a nightmare.
“Ugh, my neck…”
As Henry clutched his neck and struggled, the sound of banging echoed off the walls.
As his thrashing grew more intense, and he tried to claw at his neck with his fingertips, someone grabbed his hand to prevent him from scratching.
A figure clad in black clothes checked Henry’s forehead and noticed it was burning like a furnace.
After looking at Henry for a moment, they picked up a nearby water bucket and firmly held Henry in their embrace, pouring water from the bucket onto his lips.
However, when Henry could not drink the water and it spilled aside, the figure in black set the bucket down.
“Water, give me water. Please.”
Henry, eyes tightly closed, desperately pleaded.
Without knowing who was looking down at him, he clung tightly to the black-clad figure’s clothes, finally burying his face in their chest.
Even as he inhaled the figure’s scent, he struggled to regain his composure.
Debating whether to wake Henry from his suffering, the figure eventually brought the water bucket to their own lips.
After drinking, the figure in black leaned down to Henry, pressing their lips to his.
As the water flowed into Henry’s mouth, he calmed down, and his convulsions ceased as if by magic.
His labored breathing settled, and the pained expression on his face disappeared as he drifted into a colorful sleep.
All that remained of the earlier commotion was the disheveled blanket and Henry’s still-warm sweat.
The figure in black checked Henry’s forehead.
After just a sip of water, the feverish heat of Henry’s forehead had subsided as if by illusion.
Wondering if Henry had some chronic illness, but finding no way to know for sure, the figure in black briefly observed Henry before brushing away the hair from his forehead.
The figure, momentarily gazing down at the defenseless childlike face of the sleeping Henry, suddenly got up and slipped out through the window.
At the same moment, Sir Teher, who had opened the door, scanned the interior of the carriage.
Hearing the strange sounds, Sir Teher, upon seeing the open window on the opposite side, closed it.
“I’m sure I checked everything. This is odd.”
Since he had taken every precaution for Henry’s safety, Sir Teher muttered as if something was strange.
Then, noticing the sweat on Henry’s forehead, he nodded. “It seems my young master opened the window because he’s hot.”
After Sir Teher left the carriage, Edwin, who had been lying on the roof, sensed the surroundings.
Sir Teher had gone far, and the man named Hook, who had disappeared at dawn, still hadn’t returned.
When Edwin slightly turned his head, he made eye contact with Crown Prince William through the open window of the carriage, which had been open for some time.
Crown Prince William smiled, lifting one corner of his mouth, and placed his index finger to his lips, as if to suggest he would keep the fact that he had entered Henry’s carriage a secret.
“Oh, my aching body.”
Henry groaned, holding onto his shoulder.
Sleeping on the hard floor after being accustomed to the soft, cushy bed felt like his body was creaking and protesting.
“Have you woken up?”
Instead of answering, Henry opened the door.
When the attendant carrying the washwater tried to bring it inside, Henry shook his head.
“I’ll go out.”
The carriage felt cramped, like a bed in a room much larger than Henry’s.
Stepping outside, Henry was greeted by Hook, who approached with a smiling face.
“Did you sleep well?”
“No, I didn’t.”
“Was it because of being outside?”
“It was too narrow, too hard, too hot, and too stuffy. And…”
Having had a nightmare last night, Henry closed his mouth instead of continuing.
It seemed like he was really uncomfortable with the change in sleeping conditions.
“It didn’t feel like just a dream. It was the first time I felt that way.”
It was a sensation that something deep inside was uncomfortable, and he couldn’t quite explain it clearly.
Seeing Henry’s unrelieved expression, Hook kindly added,
“It’s probably because your body hasn’t adjusted yet.”
“Yeah, that must be it. After all, I’m such a noble body.”
Henry’s boldness in elevating himself made Hook chuckle.
He was really an amusing client, which is why Hook wanted to stay close to him.
As Henry and Hook chatted, the carriage and horses, having completed their preparations, lined up efficiently.
Henry glanced around, trying to spot Edwin, who might have spent the night somewhere.
Seeing Edwin on horseback not far away, Henry pouted.
“Stick to the plan—never acknowledge him. Absolutely.”
No matter how uncomfortable Edwin seemed, Henry resolved not to show that he knew.
While Edwin, who was muttering an incantation, was unaware of Henry’s observation, he called out to him.
“Henry.”
“Hm?”
Henry, who hadn’t expected Edwin to call him, reacted with surprise.
He wondered why Edwin was acting this way when he himself had been surprised when Edwin called him the day before.
“Do you have any chronic illnesses?”
No, at least for normal conversation, Edwin was calling him, so the feeling from yesterday was canceled out.
Suddenly asking about chronic illnesses was odd.
“Me? Me?”
“Yes.”
Even though Edwin nodded calmly at Henry’s question, Henry found it absurd.
Chronic illnesses?
In the original work, the villainous character had no illnesses other than being crazy.
He was a character who didn’t need any specific illness to be killed, so he was perfectly healthy.
“I don’t have anything.”
“Then why…?”
“What?”
Henry urged Edwin to explain further, curious about why he had asked if he had a chronic illness.
Edwin, however, did not elaborate.
After getting the answer to his question, Edwin left without a second glance.
Henry was left in a state of bewilderment.
“A chronic illness… not a damn disease, but a chronic illness? Do I look like I have a chronic illness?”
Henry clutched his body with a confused expression. It must have been a damn disease he was referring to; otherwise…
“Damn it.”
Despite trying to make sense of it, Henry ended up clicking his tongue in frustration. He felt pathetic for being swayed by Edwin’s one line.
Hugh, observing Henry and Edwin, wore a subtle smile as he mentally reassessed their relationship.
“Let’s go.”
With the refreshing command of Crown Prince William, the journey of the group towards the long road resumed.
