Henry realized a bit too late that Kayla had been teasing him.
Knowing Kayla had done it on purpose, Henry quietly shut his mouth.
He was too stunned to say anything, as if his lips were sealed, since what he’d just said might as well have been him bragging about his lover.
In fact, Henry had never told anyone outside his family that he and Edwin were lovers.
He hadn’t even brought it up directly to the crown prince yet, but somehow, it felt natural to mention Edwin in front of Kayla.
When had it become like this?
As Henry tried to retrace his thoughts, he gave up and simply laughed.
At this point, there was nothing to hide from Kayla anymore.
“To anyone else, I might not say this, but Edwin really is a wonderful partner to me.”
“The expression of someone who’s just begun to fall in love looks like that, huh?”
Kayla rested his chin on his hand, gazing at Henry intently, enough to make him turn his head in discomfort.
“So, what exactly is it about Edwin that makes him so kind?”
Kayla’s question made Henry think simply.
Edwin had plenty of kind moments, so listing them wasn’t impossible.
“Well, for one, he even feeds me soup—”
“He feeds you?”
Kayla’s eyes widened as she cut him off, his expression almost incredulous as if questioning whether Edwin had actually fed him soup and not thrown it in his face.
Seeing his overreaction, Henry hesitated.
Was it okay to keep going?
Yet, as he continued his spontaneous boasting, his face stayed flushed well into the night.
After Kayla left in the early hours of the morning, Henry, who had barely gotten any sleep, rubbed his bleary eyes and went to find Edwin.
Entering Edwin’s room naturally, Henry half-collapsed onto the soft sofa, looking utterly exhausted.
Edwin wasn’t surprised by Henry’s sudden visit.
Instead, he welcomed him, putting down the documents he’d been reviewing and approaching him immediately.
Henry frowned slightly at Edwin, as if dissatisfied with something.
Just seeing him brought back memories of the previous day.
Henry sighed as he said, “Kayla came by yesterday.”
Apparently, it wasn’t a name Edwin was thrilled to hear, as his pheromones prickled against Henry’s skin in irritation.
“Don’t meet with his too often.”
“I don’t, and I don’t plan to.”
Henry nodded obediently, recalling his conversation with Kayla.
He couldn’t count how many times he’d been embarrassed recounting Edwin’s kindness.
Even now, just thinking about it made his face heat up again, and he lightly tapped his flushed cheeks with his fingertips.
It was no wonder that after Kayla left, despite his exhaustion, he had come to see Edwin.
He’d talked about him so much that he’d wanted to see him—an impulse he couldn’t resist.
“Why are your eyes so red?”
Edwin, who was initially pleased to see Henry, shifted to mild displeasure.
He moved closer in an instant, brushing his thumb gently under Henry’s eyes.
His approach had been abrupt, but his touch was surprisingly tender.
“Because of you.”
Though he had been with Kayla, all the blame somehow landed on Edwin.
Edwin, unaware of the details, might have felt wronged, but he seemed more amused, a faint smile appearing on his face.
Whatever the situation, the fact that it was related to him seemed to satisfy him.
“Come here.”
Henry reached out his arms to Edwin.
Sitting on the sofa, he looked up at Edwin, who was standing.
Edwin leaned down, bringing himself closer, and Henry wrapped his arms around him.
Holding his lover—whom he had proudly talked about—filled him with a deep sense of satisfaction.
Burying his face into Edwin’s neck, Henry let his pheromones flow freely.
Edwin’s pheromones, blending with his own, made him sigh softly.
It felt even more relaxing than soaking in a hot bath.
“I never thought your pheromones would become this comforting.”
Henry smiled lazily, immersed in the scent of Edwin.
Now he understood what people meant when they said imprinting brings noticeable calm.
Even at home, being near Edwin didn’t compare.
Gentle Edwin, frowning Edwin, kind Edwin, sharp-tongued Edwin…
The words he and Kayla had exchanged swirled in his mind.
But in the end, what he loved most was Edwin himself.
“It feels like it’s been ages since we’ve been in this spot, don’t you think?”
Henry glanced up at the crown prince, William, who had suddenly joined them.
William, sensing Henry’s gaze, grinned slyly as he looked between him and Edwin.
“We used to spend time together like this, but it hasn’t happened much lately, has it?”
‘Is that so?’
At William’s remark, Henry took a moment to survey his surroundings.
He thought back to the last time he, William, and Edwin had sat together like this.
It seemed to have been before their trip.
‘What were we doing then?’
Henry propped his chin on his hand and stared at the drink in front of him.
After a moment of thought, the answer came to him.
“Oh, right. You and Edwin had a duel that day.”
And it hadn’t been just any duel—it was one where neither had held back.
One was the crown prince, the other the heir to a duke, and the sound of their swords clashing had been chillingly intense.
William burst into laughter at Henry’s recollection.
“Yeah, that’s right. That duel had an edge to it. Now that I think about it, Edwin seemed unusually tense that day.”
William passed all the blame to Edwin, and Henry, puzzled, glanced at him.
But Edwin seemed indifferent, pretending not to notice the attention.
“There was a wager involved in that duel,” William added, crossing his arms and feigning deep contemplation.
“I can’t think of any other reason for it… except that.”
Intrigued by William’s seriousness, Henry leaned in to listen.
“That trip you and I planned? Edwin joining us was the result of that wager,” William said, finally revealing the story with a grin.
“That day, Edwin was relentless. I asked him why, but with his personality, do you think he’d tell me? I just figured he was in one of his moods. But after he won, he said he wanted to join us on that trip.”
“Edwin said that?”
Henry looked at Edwin, his surprise evident.
Though Edwin didn’t seem thrilled about William bringing up the past, he didn’t stop him.
“Then, Your Highness didn’t bring Edwin along to pair us together?”
Henry sorted out the belated realization.
On the first day of the trip, Crown Prince William had included Edwin as part of their group.
At the time, Henry thought it was to set him up with Edwin.
“Hmm, I suppose I’d have brought him even if I’d been asked for something else.”
“So, you two were in agreement,” Henry muttered, shaking his head in disbelief.
Back then, he had no idea how much he hated having Edwin tag along.
He’d even found William’s actions annoying, only to now learn that Edwin had been in on it too.
“Edwin, don’t tell me you had feelings for me even back then?”
Henry sighed, muttering.
If Edwin had found his displeasure so obvious, why didn’t he just stay behind?
Despite Henry’s outward objections, he couldn’t help but suspect that Edwin had harbored feelings for him all along.
“You were on my mind,” Edwin corrected him.
“It bothered me, the way you acted like I didn’t matter. That’s why I followed.”
“Finally, some honesty. Still, why did you follow me?”
