Jihoon selected Ana and walked around the game map, explaining the spawn points and control points.
Yeongdeok finally understood where the control points mentioned by his teammates in the last match were.
As Jihoon continued explaining, he unconsciously leaned on Yeongdeok’s shoulder, just like he would with his friends at a PC room, feeling uncomfortable in his bent posture.
“So, if you do it like this…”
“Why are you leaning on me?”
“What? Oh, damn it.”
Jihoon jumped away from Yeongdeok, his face twisted in disgust, shaking his arm as if to shake off the unpleasantness.
“Ugh, this is so gross.”
“I could say the same. You were holding my hand earlier too. I’d appreciate it if you could refrain from doing that in the future.”
“It’s not like I enjoyed doing it either!”
Jihoon grumbled, thinking he had taught the basics enough, and turned to leave.
“Anyway, that’s the gist of it. I’m out.”
“You’re surprisingly kind.”
Yeongdeok’s comment made Jihoon stop in his tracks.
“It’s not that I wanted to help you. You just kept bothering me, so I had no choice but to explain. Don’t get it twisted.”
Jihoon left Yeongdeok’s place, slamming the door behind him as if to break it. soon, the sound of the door lock engaged.
As soon as Jihoon left his house, Yeongdeok turned his gaze back to the monitor.
Having been taught once by Jihoon, he finally got the hang of it.
The tutorial was really unfriendly.
Before going to work, Yeongdeok queued for a quick match to play a few more rounds.
His black eyes reflected the square game screen.
Ever since the day Jihoon taught Yeongdeok about the game, Yeongdeok, who always pestered him, had noticeably quieted down.
ꔚ
In the past week, Yeongdeok hadn’t come to see Jihoon even once.
Did something happen?
Jihoon furrowed his brow, then shook his head in surprise at his own reaction.
It’s good he doesn’t come around. Why am I even thinking about this? He must have been too affected by Cha Yeongdeok.
Ding.
Just then, Jihoon received a text message.
[Gecheon: Hello, editor. I sent you the video via email again today. It’s a luxury watch gameplay video, and it turned out to be pretty entertaining overall. If you could just cut out the spawn times and the times heading towards control points, and keep the rest, I’d appreciate it.]
Jihoon was a student at Daehan University, majoring in Digital Content.
Since the course taught Photoshop, video editing, 3D modeling, and such, he was making some pocket money doing video editing before graduation.
[Got it.]
Jihoon opened his laptop, downloaded the video sent by Gecheon, stretched his shoulders, and played the video.
Game Genius. Shortened to Gecheon.
A comprehensive game streamer, he was so good at any game that sometimes Jihoon would get mesmerized while editing his videos, amazed at his skills.
The latest luxury watch video also featured Gecheon carrying his incompetent teammates.
After the first and second rounds ended, Jihoon, contemplating how to edit, watched the third round when he noticed a familiar nickname flash by and rubbed his eyes in disbelief.
-Huh? This guy is going up against a dealer with Ana? Are they challenging me?
ㄴ Yeah, seems like it.
YeongdeokChicken? As far as Jihoon knew, there was only one person with such a weird nickname.
-Wow, this guy’s sleep dart aim is insane. Oh, this is making me competitive.
ㄴ Time for some education.
ㄴ Why is Ana acting like a dealer? This is hilarious, haha.
Gecheon laughed as he read the chat on the screen.
But each time he came out of the base, he got hit by a sleep dart from YeongdeokChicken and was knocked out.
His confident voice gradually turned bewildered.
-Who is this guy? Every shot is a headshot.
ㄴ The skill is insane. Could it be a hack?
ㄴ But why is a healer playing like a dealer? This is so funny, lol.
The video showed Gecheon’s character dying repeatedly to YeongdeokChicken’s attacks, which made him lose his words.
-Is YeongdeokChicken some kind of crazy asshole?
ㄴ For real, a lunatic, lol.
ㄴ Seriously, if you’re a healer, just go back and heal at the control point, lol.
YeongdeokChicken, who was supposed to support his team, instead followed the enemy around like a ghost, killing them off.
Jihoon watched the video of YeongdeokChicken wreaking havoc to the end, then quietly closed his laptop.
“This crazy bastard.”
Suddenly standing up, Jihoon went out into the corridor and, for the first time since Yeongdeok moved in, knocked on his front door first.
“Hey, Cha Yeongdeok.”
Even at Jihoon’s call, Yeongdeok didn’t open the door.
So Jihoon knocked and rang the bell several times, just like Yeongdeok had always done to him.
When he made a racket, Yeongdeok finally opened the door.
“What’s going on? I’m busy right now.”
There was a sound of a game coming from inside Yeongdeok’s place.
Jihoon gave a short, incredulous laugh.
“I just happened to see something. Are you using hacks in the game? What the hell are you doing?”
“Hacks? I don’t engage in such unfair practices.”
A week ago, Yeongdeok would have asked what a hack was.
Now, his answer implied he already knew, which made Jihoon even more suspicious.
“You really don’t use any cheats? Don’t lie. It’s only been a week since I taught you the game.”
While Jihoon was speaking, the character’s scream sounded through the speakers.
At that, Yeongdeok moved back to sit in front of the monitor.
Jihoon followed Yeongdeok into his house and watched him play the game.
Having died once and revived, Yeongdeok began to mercilessly massacre the enemies with a healer character. Jihoon clicked his tongue as he watched the scene.
“Shouldn’t you be a pro gamer instead of a chicken restaurant owner?”
“Pro gamer?”
Yeongdeok briefly wondered if there was an obsessive, pro-gamer character in any of the novels he had read. However, when an enemy appeared in front of him, he focused on shooting it.
“I don’t know about that, but once I figured out how to play, I found the game fun. I don’t understand why I haven’t done this until now.”
As Yeongdeok’s massacre continued, Jihoon, who didn’t want to see him show off any longer, took his eyes off the monitor and looked elsewhere.
Although he had been to Yeongdeok’s house a few times before, he always found the interior and furniture charming.
He thought it didn’t suit the house’s owner and looked around until he saw a PlayStation and Switch in front of the TV.
As if falling in love at first sight, Jihoon excitedly approached them.
“Hey, hey. You… bought these too? Wow, crazy. I’ve always wanted these.”
Hearing Jihoon’s excited voice, Yeongdeok finally turned his head.
“Do you like them?”
“Of course! It’s every man’s dream.”
“If you want to play, go ahead.”
“Really?”
Jihoon’s eyes sparkled, and he smiled brightly, but then he suddenly came to his senses and put on a serious face.
“Wait. Now that I think about it, why am I talking to you so casually?”
“You’re talking like I did something wrong, but today, it’s you who came to find me first.”
