Guiding the Rampaging Sub Male Protagonist chapter 70

* * *

Haebom muttered under his breath as he followed Wonho out of the room.

The moment he got up from the bed, his muscles ached, but he ignored it and kept walking.

Wonho was about to tell him to stay inside, but seeing Haebom seeing him off made him feel strange, so he let it slide.

He justified it by thinking that moving around a little was better than lying still.

“Come back safely. Don’t get hurt.”

“Yeah.”

“If you come back injured, I won’t forgive you. I mean it.”

“Got it. Stay put and rest.”

Watching Haebom nag him, Wonho smirked.

He had heard similar words from Jin Seyoung before, but back then, it annoyed him.

Now, for some reason, he didn’t mind it at all.

By the time he finally left for the Gate, quite some time had passed since the alarm first went off.

Naturally, when he arrived at the scene, he was scolded for being late.

“Hmm…”

Haebom rolled his large eyes around, internally questioning, ‘Who am I? Where is this place?’

It wasn’t that he genuinely didn’t know who he was or where he was.

Rather, the situation was just that absurd.

Right now, Haebom was sitting face-to-face with Choi Yoonseo, a person he was sure would feel uncomfortable even in a crowded space, let alone in a one-on-one setting like this, inside his own Guide office.

“Is Wonho treating you well? He’s been at the center for a long time, so he can be a bit blunt, but he’s a good guy. I hope you don’t misunderstand him, Haebom Guide.”

As Haebom’s large eyes continued to dart around, Choi Yoonseo took a sip of the fragrant tea in her mug, then lifted the corners of his lips into a smile.

Haebom glanced at him and thought, ‘What is this?’

It almost felt like he was facing his current lover’s ex.

The problem was that Yoonseo wasn’t even Wonho’s ex, and Haebom wasn’t Wonho’s current lover either.

In fact, Wonho had never dated anyone in his life—he had been single since birth.

Of course, the same went for Haebom.

Yoonseo calmly observed the man in front of her, who was clearly displaying an expression of discomfort.

His skin was as pale as if it had never seen sunlight, and his translucent eyes shimmered faintly—traits that inexplicably triggered a protective instinct.

Though, if you looked closely, he didn’t actually appear weak.

Rather, he seemed full of life.

Truthfully, Yoonseo hadn’t wanted to face this man at all.

It wasn’t as if it particularly mattered to her whether Wonho left her side.

That didn’t mean she felt nothing about it.

Holding both an S-Class Esper like Na Hyunjoon and Wonho in her hands had turned out to be more valuable than he had expected.

It hadn’t been her original intention—her feelings for Hyunjoon were real, and it was true that she had genuinely wanted to be her Guide.

But once Wonho started hovering around her, unable to leave her side, the way people looked at Yoonseo changed.

It was as if she had become someone extraordinary.

And she began to enjoy that attention.

It wasn’t that she wanted Wonho to die, nor did she think Wonho would actually die inside the Gate.

So even when he entered alone, Yoonseo hadn’t seen it as a major issue.

But when Hyunjoon casually mentioned that Wonho was probably dead, Yoonseo was shocked.

That was why she had rushed to Jin Seyoung, Wonho’s research manager.

She never imagined she would not only find Wonho alive but also meet the new Guide who had bonded with him.

Well, in any case, it was a relief that Wonho hadn’t died.

“Interesting…”

“Huh? Oppa, what’s interesting? Let me see—”

“Don’t worry about it. Just keep guiding like you always do. Yoonseo, come here.”

Looking at Na Hyunjoon chuckling at his phone screen, Yoonseo had approached him—only to be rejected.

The humiliation of being turned down by her own lover, combined with the shock of realizing that Hyunjoon saw her as nothing more than a guiding tool, hit her hard.

Hyunjoon had never treated her like this before… Or had he?

The thought crossed her mind, but she quickly pushed it away.

Instead, she called for Wonho to soothe her unease, just as she always did.

But that day, Wonho completely rejected her.

It wasn’t just the guiding he rejected—she rejected Yoonseo herself.

They had only interacted for three short minutes, but nothing happened aside from that undeniable rejection.

Recalling Wonho’s cold gaze, Yoonseo shuddered.

Not once since becoming a Guide had she ever received such a look from an Esper.

Especially not from Wonho.

And the reason for that change was the man sitting right in front of her.

Last night, while Hyunjoon was in the shower, Yoonseo had secretly checked his phone and been hit with an overwhelming sense of betrayal.

[Yoon Haebom. Age: 21, Male. Registered as an S-Class Guide at the Korea Ability Center, Seoul Branch, on XX/XX/202X. All personal information registered on the same day. No prior records exist. Currently paired with S-Class Esper Wonho. Living together.]

A few days ago, Hyunjoon had been smirking at this very profile—the man sitting in front of her now.

Her lover was interested in someone else.

And on top of that, her closest friend had already been taken away by that very person.

At the center, Wonho had been the only friend Yoonseo could truly open up to and rely on.

Though she got along well with other Guides, it wasn’t the same.

Like any friendships formed in society, there were limits to how much trust he could place in them.

If there was even the slightest sign that her relationship with Hyunjoon was faltering, those so-called friends were ready to pounce like hyenas.

And when things seemed fine again, they acted as if nothing had happened, treating her like royalty. Yoonseo knew better than to call them true friends.

She bit her lower lip.

Just as Hyunjoon’s investigation revealed, Yoon Haebom had appeared in front of Wonho—and in front of him—out of nowhere on the very day Wonho had tried to die.

It felt like everything was being taken away from her.

Even Haebom’s rank was higher than hers.

“I’m not misunderstanding anything. Wonho is treating me just fine. I don’t think there’s any need for you to be concerned, Guide Choi.”

Haebom didn’t particularly want to be harsh.

No, more than that, dhe just didn’t want to be involved.

He had only let Yoonseo in because she had shown up at his office while Wonho was inside the Gate.

If it had been up to him, he would have avoided meeting her entirely.

If Yoonseo hadn’t come looking for him, that would have been ideal.

Haebom just wanted to preserve the image she had of the female protagonist from the novel he enjoyed.

Of course, even while reading the novel, he hadn’t liked how she treated Wonho.

But as long as Wonho was pulled out of Yoonseo’s grasp, and Yoonseo and Hyunjoon got together like they did in the story, everything would be fine.

That was all he wanted.

A simple resolution.

But Yoonseo was making it seem like that simple thing wasn’t going to happen.

‘First, she keeps calling someone else’s bonded Esper whenever she wants… and now she’s acting like an ex-lover?’

Haebom grumbled inwardly.
