Picking up the child of a superstar he went to the baby variety show chapter 8

* * *

Everyone looked at him.

Especially the tall man standing nearby. Even through the sunglasses, Jian Zhile could feel his gaze, bringing an invisible pressure and a touch of nervousness.

After a moment, the man spoke, his deep, husky voice magnetic, “Thank you.”

Jian Zhile, standing by the wooden stall, still holding the paper bag, looked especially delicate and beautiful in his simple white clothes and pale face. He politely responded, “You’re welcome.”

The man, seemingly unaccustomed to owing such a small amount, didn’t ignore it due to its insignificance. He said, “Leave your contact information, I’ll repay you.”

Jian Zhile replied, “It’s only five yuan, just a small favor. No need to worry about it.”

Not far away, the curly-haired mixed-race boy, chewing on the sugar figure, called out, “Uncle, we need to hurry, or mom will scold me again!”

The tall, handsome man glanced at his nephew, who immediately quieted down, biting the sugar figure again.

Jian Zhile was a bit surprised.

The man turned back to him, put away his wallet, and in a deep, slow voice said, “Well, see you around.”

Jian Zhile, being smart, knew he probably wouldn’t see these high-status people again, but still politely said, “Goodbye.”

The man’s phone rang. He turned and walked a few steps away to answer it.

Watching his tall, noble back, Jian Zhile sighed in relief.

Although the man hadn’t removed his sunglasses, Jian Zhile couldn’t be mistaken about the figure, aura, and voice—even slightly tired and husky. He wouldn’t mistake him for anyone else: Gu Qingye, a top-tier actor and the eldest son of the Gu family, a national phenomenon who dominated half of the entertainment industry. He was also one of the main mentors during Jian Zhile’s talent show days.

But back then, Jian Zhile had been framed and had to quit after the second public performance. Gu Qingye probably didn’t remember him.

Jian Zhile pondered, his head aching slightly—a post-accident symptom. Recalling past events sometimes triggered nerve pain.

The old man handed him the newly drawn sugar figure, smiling, “Young man, your sugar figure is ready.”

Jian Zhile came back to his senses, reached out, and said, “Thank you.”

The early spring breeze was cool, the golden sunlight filtering through the clouds. He took the sugar figure, his delicate face looking particularly serene in the cool wind.

The old man said, “Come back again.”

Jian Zhile smiled, “I will.”

As he turned to leave, the paper bag in his hand got caught on the old man’s stall, tearing slightly. The bag contained clothes and new toiletries for An An. Though manageable with both hands, it was tricky with one hand while holding the sugar figure.

The old man stood up, surprised, “Are you okay?”

Jian Zhile frowned slightly but quickly relaxed, shaking his head to reassure the old man, “I’m fine.”

However, it would be challenging to carry alone.

As he considered finding another bag, the weight was lifted from his hands by another pair—strong, capable hands. He looked up to see the tailored suit pants and long legs of Gu Qingye.

Gu Qingye’s voice was calm, “Bag torn?”

Jian Zhile, surprised by his help, knew Gu Qingye was known for being approachable but still found it unexpected. He answered honestly, “Yes, but the hospital isn’t far.”

Gu Qingye’s tone was natural, “Which department?”

Jian Zhile responded, “Pediatrics.”

Not far away, the curly-haired boy said, “Uncle, they’re going to the same place as us!”

Gu Qingye nodded slightly. He picked up Jian Zhile’s paper bag with ease. Though the bag wasn’t small, it seemed light in his broad grasp. He said to Jian Zhile, “Let’s go.”

Jian Zhile followed the man’s tall, elegant figure silently.

The walk wasn’t far to the hospital.

The pediatrics department was close to the entrance. They took the elevator to the ninth floor and walked a short distance to the ward. It was quiet inside, with most children still asleep.

Jian Zhile opened the door and entered. He set down the sugar figure and went to take his bag from the film star.

The woman watching the child in the adjacent bed pointed to An An, “He’s asleep. I’ve been keeping an eye on him, no issues.”

Jian Zhile nodded, “Thank you.”

“No problem, it’s nothing. Taking care of a child alone isn’t easy,” the woman started to say, then paused, looking

surprised at the man entering the room.

The tall man in the tailored suit stood in the doorway. The cold fluorescent light enhanced his dignified presence. He stepped in and placed Jian Zhile’s bag on the table beside him.

Seeing the woman’s gaze, Jian Zhile quickly tried to explain, “He…”

But the woman smiled and said, “I thought so. How could you be raising a child alone at your age? Is this your husband? You two look great together!”
