The Transmigrated Villain Hates the Main Character chapter 44

* * *

“What do you mean, you’re not getting guided?”

“It’s just… I’m too tired today.”

“If you’re tired, shouldn’t you definitely get guided?”

“That’s…”

Siwoo fell silent, unable to answer.

Raon frowned, staring at him.

Come to think of it, Siwoo had run off in the middle of guiding the other day too.

Raon had been too busy with training to confront him properly.

Recalling his low mood from that incident, Raon forced his lips into a smile.

“Siwoo, you ran off last time during guiding too.”

“…Yeah.”

“And now you’re avoiding it completely? What’s that about, hmm?”

Raon reached out, keeping his tone gentle for now.

But surprisingly, Siwoo dodged his hand and took a step back.

“Siwoo?”

“It’s not that… I’m sorry, hyung.”

“Hey, where are you— Hey!”

Siwoo suddenly turned and bolted, and Raon yelled after him.

But Siwoo never looked back.

“Tch, seriously…”

Raon ground his teeth in frustration.

The stats he’d worked so hard to raise would crash at this rate.

Even if the team was in a temporary lull after restructuring, this situation couldn’t continue.

Raon sighed, shaking his head.

He had no idea what the hell was going on with Siwoo.

“Good. Now raise your arm like that and aim straight ahead.”

“L-Like this?”

“Yes. See this indented part here? You line that up with the center of the target over there, and then you shoot.”

Raon guided Hamin’s shooting posture as he spoke.

Hamin aimed the gun at the target with a serious expression.

Starting today, Raon had begun firearm training for the Guides.

He wanted them to get familiar with a wider variety of weapons, but unfortunately, there wasn’t much time left.

For now, they were practicing with handguns so that Hamin and Dasom, who were both on the weaker side, could handle them more easily.

Hamin, carefully aiming at the target, soon pulled the trigger.

Bang!

“Ahh!”

As soon as the gun fired, Hamin’s slender body was thrown backward.

Raon quickly reached out and supported him.

“Are you alright?”

“Y-Yeah…”

The gun the Guides were training with wasn’t an ordinary weapon.

It resembled a standard handgun in appearance, but it was one of the latest firearms developed specifically for neutralizing monsters.

‘Even so, it’s nothing compared to the power of an Esper.’

No matter how advanced the weapon, fighting monsters with human-made technology alone was a losing battle.

If it weren’t for the by-products harvested from suppressing Gates, these weapons wouldn’t even have this much firepower—modern science alone wasn’t enough.

“Even if it’s just a handgun, it’s powerful, so you need to brace your body. Be careful not to get hurt from the recoil.”

“Understood.”

Hamin nodded firmly at Raon’s words. Raon lifted his head to check the target.

“Direct hit.”

“Phew…”

The targets used in monster combat training were relatively large—the monsters appearing from the Gates were, more often than not, huge.

Of course, not every future Gate would only produce massive monsters.

Raon narrowed his eyes at the damaged target.

Once the team got comfortable with stationary targets, they’d have to practice with moving ones.

They’d need to be able to hit smaller targets too.

Raon watched as the team members slowly grew more familiar with handling their handguns.

Bang!

“Kyaa!”

“Ah…”

The recoil was still proving too much for Dasom to handle.

Raon hurried over to adjust her posture.

“You shouldn’t raise your arms too high, and you have to grip with both hands. Keep your hands positioned like this for stability.”

“Ah, thank you.”

It took a few more tries before Dasom finally grew accustomed to the shooting.

Only when Raon saw her holding her stance properly did he step back, relieved.

“Hyung.”

“Oh, you’re back?”

Raon looked at Siwoo, who had returned with the Espers, wearing a slightly awkward expression.

Espers didn’t really need firearm training, so they had been off doing their own exercises.

“Joint training starts today, right?”

“Yeah, it’s about time.”

Honestly, the so-called ‘joint training’ wasn’t anything fancy.

They’d line up on the field, practice formation basics, and run a simulation to rehearse their roles inside a Gate.

The combat team was supposed to handle the monsters at the front lines anyway, while the Guides stayed back…

‘Whether that’ll actually work is another story.’

Raon was skeptical of Dojin’s combat team.

Even before his regression, they had reorganized the team in the same way.

Back then, there wasn’t even a separate Guide team—Dojin had simply shoved Raon, Hamin, and a few other Guides into the Alpha Team.

That unfamiliar formation led to mistakes, and when they panicked at the higher-difficulty Gate, they couldn’t protect the Guides properly.

In the end, during the next Gate incident, the only Guides who survived to the end were Hamin, himself, and Haedam—the one who later became Center Director.

Raon pressed his lips into a bitter smile as fragments of the original timeline flashed through his mind.

“Alright, line up in the order I call out.”

Raon spoke calmly as he arranged the team’s formation.

He and Taehyuk stood at the front, Dasom in the center, with Hamin and Juwon at the rear.

The Espers surrounded them on all sides.

“This is the basic formation. You need to move while keeping these positions intact. Got it?”

“Yes!”

The team answered with determination.

Likely, during an actual Gate mission, additional squad members would join in to guard them.

But when it came to the crucial moments, the Espers from the Special Team would be the ones protecting the Guides.

Beep. Beep-beep.

“Hm?”

In the middle of training, a call came through on Raon’s watch.

It was from Seokhyeon.

Good timing—they needed to talk anyway, and it was during joint training, so Raon could leave things to Siwoo for now.

Feeling relatively at ease, he headed toward the Center Director’s office.

“I’m here.”

“Take a seat.”

“…?”

For some reason, Seokhyeon’s face was tense.

Raon tilted his head in confusion and sat down across from him.

“Did something happen?”

“Are you in contact with Hanmyung’s people these days?”

“…What?”

Raon blinked at the abrupt question.

Seokhyeon let out a sigh.

“You know Chairman Han Myunghoon hasn’t been discharged from the hospital yet, right?”

“Yeah, I mean…”

Thanks to Siwoo’s ability, Han Myunghoon wasn’t physically too injured, but his PTSD was severe enough that he hadn’t returned to work.

Raon only knew the general details from news reports and articles—he’d deliberately kept his personal phone off to avoid unwanted calls.

“His sons have been handling his affairs in the meantime, but things are getting complicated.”

“How so?”

“Take a look at this.”

“…?”

Seokhyeon handed over a tablet.

Raon stared at the blank screen for a second, then as it flickered to life, his eyes widened.

“What the hell…?”

Raon cursed under his breath as the headline came into view—it was that ridiculous.

“Atrocities Within the Guide Center—The Crumbling Reality of Guide Rights”

Accompanying the blunt headline was a clear photo of Raon and his team mid-training.

Photos like that shouldn’t have leaked, and yet here they were—high resolution, crystal clear.

‘Hanmyung, those bastards…’

It wasn’t hard to guess who was behind this.

Hanmyung was infamous for manipulating public opinion.

They used Guides to build ties with the military, planted insiders within the Center and armed forces, and spread favorable news articles for their own gain.

“If this incident escalates, Hanmyung’s the only one who benefits.”

“Yeah, no doubt…”

Raon let out a short sigh, curling his lips in a crooked smile.

Clearly, Hanmyung intended to stir public outrage with these scandals and seize control of the reorganized Guide Team for themselves.

They were probably furious that Raon had avoided their calls and still claimed the team leader position.

“With Chairman Han Myunghoon still hospitalized, I bet this is the work of his sons—Executive Director Han or Managing Director Han.”

“Hah…”

“Could you try speaking with them?”

Seokhyeon asked, visibly troubled.

If public opinion worsened, no one could say what might happen to the Guide Team.

He was hoping Raon, with his ties to Hanmyung, could settle this quietly.

But Raon found dealing with Han Myunghoon’s sons even more unbearable than the chairman himself.

Especially those two—the Executive Director and the Managing Director—were on a whole different level.

‘Those psychotic bastards wouldn’t listen to a word I say…’

Raon raised a hand to rub his creased forehead.

Just thinking about them made his stomach churn.

“I mean, even if I talk to them…”

Beep-beep-beep! Beep-beep!

“…!”

Just as he was about to give a negative response, a loud alarm blared from Seokhyeon’s watch.

It wasn’t just an ordinary call; it was the sound that rang out only during emergencies.

Raon looked at Seokhyeon’s watch in surprise.

“Yes, this is Guide Center Director Jang Seokhyeon speaking.”

— Director, it’s an emergency! A new gate has appeared in Zone 7…

“What?”

Seokhyeon’s eyes widened in shock.

Raon, tense, fixed his gaze on him.
